Iole peered down the trail, sniffing. The scent made her tail puff; but the House wouldn't tell her to do something that would be bad, and Kamu didn't seem to be afraid, so Iole couldn't possibly be afraid. She followed, folding her wings tightly.

Kamu followed the scent in earnest. It was pulling her quickly down past ferns and under tree roots and around old rotting stumps. Everything out here provided many great smells, but that one just pulled her straight toward it like a leash.
ugh. she hated leashes.

Iole followed Kamu, not feeling the mysterious pull, but aware that her companion knew where they needed to go. "Na, bo," she said aloud. I'm getting tired, are we there yet?

Kamu clambered up a tree suddenly and peered out, clinging like a sloth upside down. One thing you could say for the girl, she was nearly fearless, "BA!" she shouted out loud. Over there! We're close!

Iole hissed as the scent intensified and crawled slowly forward to see what the bushes obsciured. She gathered the feeling of heat in her mouth, ready to spit fire if she needed to.

Kamu jumped from the tree, landing on her backside. Thankfully her little diaper like thing padded her from breaking anything and she pushed her way next to Iole and nudged the leaves to the side. Behind the green foliage was a small puffball of black fur that was curled into itself.
Kamu nudged the baby panther with a paw, wondering if it was still alive. When it mewed, she squealed in delight.

It was feline and small. Iole's tail puffed further. She was feline. So was Kamu. Well. Sort of. Both she and Kamu had sharp bits. Was this small black ball going to have sharp bits? She prodded it.

The little black puffball reacts to the prod and tries to gnaw on the offender. It's teeth were too small to do any real damage, even to the delicate skin of a baby and Kamu giggles at the funny sight the little fluffy thing clinging to Iole's hand provided.
Kamu pushed her nose toward the face of the little kitten and mrows at it, giggling at it's cute little face.

Iole squealed and tried to push the toothy fuzzball off her hand. Not fair, she hadn't even bitten it yet. And Kamu thought it was funny! She extracted her hand and scooted back to sit and sulk.

Kamu gathered the little puffball into her lap and petted it carefully, not really paying attention to the fact that it was indeed actually a boy. She purred as she held him, but the kitten squirmed violently. This was NOT his mommy! He wriggled, but was too small to really get anywhere.
Kamu burbled with delight as the pull from the House had gone since she'd found the little kitten, "Ko! Ko! Na! Ko!" she said to Iole. Look! This is what I was looking for!

Iole looked dubiously at the fuzzball. It had to go back with them? "Neh," she said grumpily. "Kamu hold." She wasn't carrying it.

Kamu giggled again as the kitten tried to get away once more. She grabbed it and shook it a little. He mewed piteously and Kamu finally set him on her shoulder. He dug in, feeling warmth and a gentle caress of his mind told him that he was wrong and this was his mommy. The little panther curled up and purred roughly in Kamu's ear.
Kamu, down on all fours motioned to Iole with a, "nwee!" that she wanted to go back.

Okay. Iole was good with that. There was more BIG cat smell here than she liked. She plopped back down to hands and knees and set off at a good clip towards the House.

Kamu trotted her way on hands and knees , puffball clinging to her shoulder. She burbled softly to him and sniffed her way back to Iole and up the trail they had travelled down.
Reaching the door, she pushed her way in and sat down in the darkness.

... That was a looooong stairway. And dark. Iole sat down and stared at it. Then she opened her mouth and started wailing as loud as she could. Nashi would come and carry her if she did that!
Upstairs, the door cracked a little way open and a very familiar yowling cry came out of it. Nanashi swung around. "Do you hear that?"
