Safiya blinked repeatedly as Muroki called out his friend's name and said friend came running. Something about scene was funny, but Safiya wasn't sure if she was supposed to laugh or not.
Safiya smiled at the wolf as Muroki introduced her. She'd never seen a maned wolf before. When Kainda bowed her head, Safi bowed hers in return. She seemed friendly enough, and so Safi was prepared to be on her best behavior and really impress her. She even opened her mouth to say "It's ever so nice to meet you," in her best and cheeriest voice.
But then Kainda had to go and say it. Welcome to the family.
Safiya had never been a part of her family in her whole life, at least not that she could remember. And now...she was being welcomed into one. Welcomed. For the first time. Her heart and her eyes filled to the brim with emotion and she completely forgot that she was supposed to be holding it in.
Unable to speak, Safiya could no nothing more than shift her weight to her back legs and clasp her new friend Kainda into a bear hug (or lion, as the case may be). Not in the habit of thinking before acting, Safi didn't consider how the smaller animal might consider this threatening. The white lioness was nothing but gentle.
Well, this was it. Either Kainda took this well, or Safi had just ruined another potential friendship.
Still, she didn't care. She had been welcomed. Into a family. They didn't know just how a big a deal that was.

The wolf was surprised to say the least and reacted badly for a second or two. She yelped and drew up her forepaws, ready to twist away, until Kainda realised she was being hugged. Then she relaxed and laid her head against the lioness' shoulder to return it, bushy tail wagging hesitantly. She would have brought up her long legs but those were kind of trapped.
"Nice to meet you too?" The wolf laughed, a wee bit confused but friendy all the same. She turned her bright eyes on her lion, to find Muroki with his head tilted to one side, thinking. Safiya seemed so happy to be included - he was sure he'd done the right thing in asking her to join them. He got the impression she'd been lonely as well as unsure where to go. Odd, considering she had a pleasant nature.

Safiya released the wolf, smiling sheepishly and rubbing away remnants of tears. "Forgive me, I was carried away," she mumbled with a little laugh.
Happiness made her dumb, and she just sat back and smiled at them both with a grin that she could not let go of even if she tried.

"Nothing to forgive. Had happiness included claws, yes..." She teased, though in a gentle tone. Tears, even happy ones, always worried Kainda somewhat.
"You definitely alright, Safi?" Muroki butted in, wanting to make sure.

"I'm better than ever," Safiya said, nodding enthusiastically. A soothing feeling of relief was flooding her, making her feel sleepy and calm. Happiness had never abandoned her; it had just gotten confused for a little while. She held onto that sedate, content feeling for a while. And then she wanted action again.
"Well, what are we sitting around here for? Don't we have places to go, people to see?" Her smile was mischievous; her eyes, glittering. "Vultures to run off, a pride to restore? No use wasting any more time on little old me. Where to next, fearless leader?"

"Very true." Oh, Kainda liked this girl already! She was cheerful, emotional, and didn't sit around on her tail all day planning things for hours. The enthusiasm was nice - matched the wolf's own. "Before that, care to come see Kainda's den? We're going to use it as a meeting point..."
(The end!)
