"I don't know much about what unicorns are -supposed- to do.."
Myde trailed off a moment, thinking on that. He couldn't really tell him how to be a unicorn... He had never met one, afterall. Still, he could do his best to give advice.
"Defending is one thing, getting yourself killed is another. If someone truly did need defending, what good would it be for you to get severly injured or killed in their defense? That would just leave you hurt, and them vulnerable to the attacker, would it not?"

"It would be more helpful than running away..." Kal muttered miserably, still feeling the shame he had been made to feel under Telikos' scrutinizing gaze.
He let himself sink down in the water, and wiggled a bit to try and the mud off his belly. His mother had always said a clean stallion was a happy stallion, and although he hadn't believed it as a foal he was hoping it would restore at least a bit of his wounded confidence. He was ashamed, yes, but didn't Telikos also say he had time to figure out what would make him brave? Perhaps being clean and well groomed was a start.

"Would not. It'd just end in more heartache."
The darker stallion watched Kal, giving him a few moments peace before talking once more.
"Throwing yourself in danger does no one any good. If you approach such a thing blindly, rather than allowing yourself some thought, you'll likely make the situation worse. I agree, it's nice to help defend someone in trouble, but you are no help to anyone if you're dead."

Kal wiggled a bit more in the water, he was having a hard time getting the sand off him. He was starting to feel a little lost and confused, since Telikos had told him it was bad to run and hide, yet this stallion was telling him it was okay to run and hide. His confusion probably showed clearly on his face for a minute before he seemed to make up his mind.
"I-I want to learn to be brave though, so I don't have to run from things even if they scare me."
An annoyed look crossed his face, and he plunged his head under water so he could rub at his side with his nose and dislodge some of the dirt.

While the other ducked under water to clean his coat, Myde hesitantly moved closer. It was highly unlikely he'd fully leave the water, but moving closer would at least make talking a bit easier. As more of him became visible, it was evident that he wasn't that large either. Perhaps a bit bigger than the pale unicorn before him, but at least he didn't tower over him like his attacker had.
Myde would wait for the other to resurface before continuing their chat.
"There is nothing wrong with learning to be brave, so long as you also learn when to use said bravery."

Kal jumped a bit when he pulled his head up and realized how close the other had gotten, but it was more from surprise than fear at that point. He blinked a bit, unable to keep from glancing at the other's peculiar fins.
"I-I don't think I'll have to worry about being too brave."
After a bit more wigging, some irritated splashing, and finally dunking his head again to rub at his flanks, he resurfaced appearing satisfied. If nothing else, he would emerge from the water a much prettier stallion, if not a braver or more determined one.

Noticing the other's gaze, Myde fanned his fins out for easier viewing. If nothing else, fanning out the brightly colored appendages would shake off a bit of the water clinging to them.
"Well then, you should be fine. I wish you luck in your adventures."
The dark stallion gave a calm smile, doing his best to set the alicorn at ease.

Kal tossed his soaked bangs out of his eyes, and tried to be discreet about watching the fin-fanning. They really did make the dark stallion look a lot larger, but then again, Kal could gain a bit of apparent size by fluffing his own wings. Not that he was going to at that point.
"Thank you, I appreciate it..."
The alicorn returned the smile, and waded back out to the knee depth water. Soaked and dripping he looked pretty small and scrawny, but at least his golden markings were clean enough to shine again.
"I-I don't have any more mud on me, do I?" He hesitantly asked.

Myde lowered his head in a nod at the note of appreciation.
"No, the mud is gone off of your coat."
The water stallion gave a calm smile and joined Kal in the knee depth water. His fins were flat against his back now, and the shallower water allowed his finned tail to come into view.
"So....erm...I'm sorry. We never properly introduced did we? I'm Myde, and you are?"

The little white stallion looked properly abashed.
"I-I'm sorry, my name is Kal. It's a pleasure to meet you."
He smiled, and then vigorously shook the water off his fur. Being clean didn't seem to bring about any extra confidence, but at least he didn't have any more sand scratching at his skin. Perhaps with the breeze in the air he would even dry off before lying down to sleep that night.

"Pleasure."
Mmm...great. Small talk. While he had been so talkative earlier, small talk was not his strong point. Myde glanced around a bit, struggling to think of anything to say to the other. Finally he seemed to think of something.
"So...are there more...like you? Can't say I've ever seen another with wings and a horn like yours."

Kal spread his wings slightly, more to let his body dry than to really show off.
"I haven't met any with a horn and wings around here, but I know there are others like me out there. My mother only had a horn, and my father only had wings, so there has to be more like me."
The little stallion smiled and wandered back far enough so he stood on the edge of the lake, where his legs could dry off too. His long tail swished back and forth amiably.
"I haven't lived here that long though... Have you always lived in this lake?"

Myde gave a simple nod.
"Yep, born and raised in this lake. Parents aren't around anymore I'm afraid, but I still live here with my fond memories of them. It's doubtful I'll ever go anywhere else...kinda hard to leave the water and all."
Myde swished his own tail, stirring up at the water a bit.
"Where do you live? Near here or...?"

Kal nodded. His own parents had been well last time he had seen him, but it had been so long ago, and so far away. Now he was bound to the area much the same way Myde was, except his were boundaries made by fear rather than land. Not that he was going to readily enlighten his companion.
"I live a short distance to the east," the little stallion said with a smile. "I don't spend a lot of time in this area, or maybe I would have met you before now."
He paused, unsure if his next question was appropriate since he had never met a stallion that looked kind of like a fish before. "Do you... have to stay wet all the time?"

"The east huh? What lies that way, if you don't mind me asking?"
It'd be nice to have a friend nearby. Hopefully the little stallion found his way to the lake more often now that he knew someone was indeed living here.
"Ah...unfortunately yes. I don't mind, as I love the water, but it does tend to make travel difficult. On rainy days I can at least get out and explore a bit however. It's good to keep wet, as otherwise it gets rather uncomfortable."
