Francis walked quietly upstairs, not wanting to draw attention from his college-aged sister who sat in the kitchen speaking with their mother about what needed to be picked up from the market.

He slipped into his room and sat on his bed. Homework. Right. Francis leaned back against the wall.

Gotta....get...that...done....

*~*

He sat up. "Yes." Francis muttered. He was back in the forest. This time by a large lake. He stood and looked into the water. There was a girl under the surface, at least that's what he thought it was. She had wings. It didn't take a genius to figure out that she shouldn't be there, and wad being pulled under. Francis stared down at her, not quite sure what he could do. She was too far down to swim to.

"Do you think he came back yet?" Willow asked as the two of them jogged through a gathering of tall thin trees.

"I don't know." Rowan answered blankly. They slowed down when the ground began curving down toward the lake.

"Yes he did." She whispered before running down the steep decline. Rowan looked down, he could see the boy standing by the water. His eyes brightened and he began to follow.

But Rowan wasn't as coordinated as Willow and soon tripped on his way down and rolled the rest of the way. Willow's foot stopped him and she helped him up.

The boy was looking at something, and the faeries looked at him.

Kat looked at the teacher with a zoned-out expression on her face. she was writing in her head, as it was one of her most hated subjects currently-RE. it wasn't that she didn't like learning about different cultures, it was just, when was she ever going to use all this stuff?. she closed her eyes, one hand propping up her chin.

*~*

Kat was in a forest. she looked down and saw she was garbed in brown and green clothing, which blended into the forest. she touched her face, and felt no glasses.'what the hell?'
she felt a bow on her shoulder and a quiver and two sheathes on her back. "this is unreal. i never have dreams like this.!" she pinched herself. "ow! so this isn't anything remotely like my normal dreams. but it can't be real, can it?" she brushed her hair back from her face, noting with no real surprised that her ears were pointed. she walked along the forest pathways, and received her first real shock when a squirrel started talking to her. "leave! leave! my space!" she heard chittering, but somehow understood it. she stood still. under the birdsong, she could hear the meanings. "my tree! my tree!" 'this... is.. wierd' she kept waling, and noticed the plants moving out of her way. she noticed a pool off to one-side, and looked in. she saw her reflection-green hair, brown eyes, then she noticed that there was someone in there. she was very far down, and kat didn't know if she was breathing or not. she saw a few other people on the other side, stood up from her crouch, and....

*~*

*BBRRRIIINNNGGG!!!!*Kat jolted awake as the end of class bell rang. she still felt tired, but she hurriedly began packing her books away. she kept out of eye contact with everyone, and walked out the classroom. she strode out to the gates, noting with satisfaction her bus was already there. she walked up the steps and took one of the empty seats. she sat in the window seat, put her bag in the aisle one, and looked out the window. 'bloody hour long bus drive. no wonder i'm so tired all the time, seeing as i have to get up at 6-30 to be able to catch my bloody bus. ah well, might as well catch up on some sleep'. she leant her head against the glass and closed her eyes.

*~*

She was back by the pool side, and for some reason was lying on her side. she sat up noticing she had a bruise on her side. 'i must have fallen when the bell rang' she looked across to the figures on the other side. "hello? do you know where this place is?" she asked, feeling slightly scared. she took her bow from the shoulder on her non-bruised side, and an arrow, holding them loosely at her side, just in case.

Well, there was a supposed to be a certain peace in accepting that you were screwed, right? Should she be remembering the important benchmarks of her life? Aria couldn't really see how that was supposed to happen; the only things she could seem to think were "This sucks on a pretty profound level," and "How did I get into a lake? No salt=not the ocean, but there aren't any other large bodies of water around."
What was on her back, anyway? Her vision was starting to fade out, and it made a fuzzy sort of sense to at least know what was dragging her to her doom. She turned to examine her shoulder blades, and whatever she had been expecting to see, it wasn't what was there. They were an eerie pale green in the ghostly light, but they couldn't be real. They were just the hallucination on a dying girl who never even made it to senior year, but--Wings,she thought reverently in the instant before she blacked out, I have wings....

"Gotta do something." Francis muttered. He began spacing by the shore.

"Got a problem?" He heard a voice. The point ear girl stepped out from behind a tree and her friend was right behind her.

"No, just go away, please." He muttered, looking into the water again.

Consciousness faded back in for a second, and Aria wondered nonsensically who would feed her kitten, Amaretto. Such a sweet little cat...
Suddenly, something slid in beneath her, something lifting her up, something hard and smooth and huge. Then she was out of the water, and there was sunlight shining down on her, but all she could do was lie there and cough up obscene amounts of dirty lake water.
After what seemed like ages she took a deep, greedy breath of air, and opened her eyes. She was lying on a shell, a giant shell. Too tired to think about the implications of this, she closed her eyes again and reveled in the readily available air.

"Are you okay?" Francis whispered softly to the girl. "Hey," He softly nudged her arm.

*~*

Hey," Francis muttered in his sleep. "Hey!" He shouted, jolting forward.

*~*

Willow and Rowan looked down on the girl. "Do you think she's one of them, too?" He asked, kneeling beside her.

"Probably." Willow responded, looking around for anyone else.

Siri put her earphones in and slouched down in her seat. Really, high school buses sucked, but it was better than walking home in the pouring rain. She sighed and looked out the window, pushing a strand of hair out of her eyes. The rain on her window made the city buildings blurred, which in her own opinion was better than what they normally looked like.

The girl rested her knees on the back of the seat in front of her, lounging back into her own. Bored with the trip already, she decided to see how far down she could go. Her knees had just reached about an inch above her head when her head lolled to the side, and she fell asleep.

*~*

Siri was standing on a hill, overlooking a plain. Confused, she walked forward. 'There's no way in hell I'd find some place this open in the city...' She continued walking until she reached the bottom of the hill, where she stopped to stretch a bit. She put her arms over her head, clasped them together, and pushed upwards.

Clink.

Siri froze, her arms still in that ridiculous position. That was not a normal stretching noise. It had sounded almost...metallic. She slowly lowered her arms, then repeated the stretching motion. Once again, she heard the mysterious noise. Now that she was thinking about it...she felt a bit of weight on her back, though it was nothing when compared to the messenger bag she carried her schoolbooks in.

Reaching backwards, Siri's hands were met with a cold, circular bit of metal. Frowning, she pulled on the metal, wondering what it was and how it got on her back. She got goosebumps up her spine as she hear the sound of metal grinding on metal, and pulled her arm forward.

Eyes wide, Siri looked at the sword in her hands. She'd never even seen a real sword, much less held one. Yet, here she was, with a silver sword engraved with black swirls upon the blade. The hilt was a bright blue, an dhad similar markings. Her fingers were grasped tightly over it, but she felt no real sense of pressure, as though this blade had been made for her hand.

Her hand...

Siri looked at her hands, mouth opening a bit. Her nails were blue. The same shade as the sword's hilt. She never painted her nails, on principle. What was the point, when it would just chip off and look ugly in a few days? But her nails were definitely painted, a bright, icy blue.

Just then, Siri caught sight of her reflection in the blade of the (her?) sword. Her hair was shorter, and darker. Much darker, with blue tips. She dropped the sword in shock, and -

*~*

A paper airplane flew into her knees, jolting Siri awake. Annoyed, she picked it up and sat normally. She looked around to the back of the bus, where a group of boys were laughing and high-fiving each other. She frowned and sent the plane back at them, turning around again before she could see their reaction.

She sat down the way she had been before she'd drifted off to sleep, and thoguht about the dream she'd just had. It had felt so real...the wieght of the sword, the breeze on the plains... It had felt like real life. But, it couldn't be real, because Siri had never owned a sword, didn't paint her nails, and definitely had blonde hair.

It couldn't be real.

There were voices. One was normal, a boy, but he suddenly stopped. Aria tried to open her eyes to see where he'd gone, but she couldn't seem to manage it. Then there were other voices, a woman and a man, but there was something... different... about they way they spoke.
Suddenly her eyes shot open. There was a concerned face hovering over her, a young man. She blinked. He had pointed ears. She stared up at him for a few more seconds, then murmured, "You- You're a.. fairy? Elf?" She studied him for another second, then her eyes widened. "I was rescued by a giant, red turtle. Please tell me I was hallucinating. There wasn't a giant turtle, right?"

Rowan smiled at her. "She's awake," He reported joyfully to Willow. "Is there a turtle in this lake?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"I think so." She stated back before passing him to speak to the girl. "How are you, dear?" Willow smiled. "Gave us quite a scare there."

Rowan cocked an eyebrow at her. She hadn't been worried at all for the girl until just now.

Aria silently took note of the man's reaction and automatically filed it away for future reference. She smiled her blindingly perfect smile. "I just got pulled out of a lake by a giant turtle after almost drowning; how do you think I am? Please don't be idiotic. When aspects of my subconscious are idiotic, it implies that some part of me is idiotic as well. So if you are done insulting my intelligence..."
She got gracefully to her feet, courtesy of ballet classes every day since she was three, compensating easily for the added weight of the enormous pair of waterlogged angel wings still attached to her back. "It's been fun, kids, " She called back as she started off toward the tree line, "But it's time to get back to reality."

The next few classes came in a blur, and the end of the day arrived swiftly. He came to the school parking lot to find his step-father waiting, Leo's suitcase already packed in the back seat. Leo would be spending the following week in California with his real father, and his new flavor of the month. Absentmindedly he hoped that they'd be gone all week. His father had a habit of splurging in the first couple of weeks he found a new leech. Good for the lady, and good for Leo, but bad for his father, whom would come crashing down at the end of those weeks, overloaded with work, and begin to take his anger out on everyone else around.

Leonidus smirked. His father was such a dolt. Shaking his head he climbed into the car. Silence dominated the space between Leo and Gary, his step-father. They never spoke much, and Leo planned on keeping it that way. Slowly, he drifted off...

*~*

Monollius was a man in favor of the scenic route. Thus, he found himself visiting his favorite spots across the continent, just taking his venture at a leisurely pace. When he leaped (used here in reference to the sudden crossing of large amounts of distance instantaneously) to his favorite plain, he had already forgotten both his mission and his tension. With a contented sigh, he gave rise to a chair made of the earth beneath him, and sat slowly. From his earthen throne, he gazed out at the plains, head resting on one palm, and the other absently fingering the top of his staff.

"This old gray needs feminine companionship..." As if struck by a revelation, he sat upright; that is to say, as upright as his crooked spine would allow. "By the Divinities!" He struck an arm of the chair, and dirt flew in every direction. Monollius seemed not to notice. "A nice little gal, hm? Then, we shall most certainly attend that matter post-haste!"

*~*

THUD! Leo was thrown forward into the restrictive grasp of his seatbelt just in time to look up and see the Cadillac emblem on the Escalade's grill before--

CRUNCH!

*~*

Monollius awoke from his reverie, shaking his head, and blinking rapidly. "What, what?" No one was there though. "Oh, what a bother waking up sitting in the dirt..."

*~*

WRRRENT!

Leo's eyes flickered open. Just beyond the haze of his mind, he registered his door being torn off its hinges, and a pair of gloved hands reaching in to remove his seat belt. Fire-retardant clothing enveloped him, and he clung instinctively. He could feel himself being lifted physically, and mentally. To safety, to heaven...

*~*

He had been dozing again. With an indignant sigh, Monollius thrust himself upward from the chair and shook his head again, a hand pulling on his beard. The throne disintegrated, becoming naught more than a small mound of rubble. "What was I processing, hm? Ah, yes, companionship!" His free hand pointed toward the sky. "Onward to eternally binding resolutions, dear heart of mine!" Monollius sounded quite excited... perhaps too excited...

Kat blinked. 'giant..red ..turtle..' a muscle under her eye twitched. she shrugged it off and saw the girl with wings walking towards her. she stepped in front of her, seemingly melting out of the tree's. "hey, if you're going back to reality, i wanna join you. have you got any idea where this place is?" she asked, suddenly conscious of her green hair. " i just fell asleep and suddenly birds are telling me to get lost, i have green hair, and a bow and arrows."

Aria started violently; she hadn't even seen the green-haired girl until she'd spoken. She stared in disbelief for a few more seconds, then shook her head and walked past her, muttering, "I knew reading Tolkien was a bad idea. Elves, everywhere elves. My subconscious is broken."

Kat looked slightly affronted by this girl and her muttering, then shrugged. she walked towards the other figures by the lake, at least two of which had.. pointed ears. she touched up and reached her own, feeling very weirded out. "im sorry, i was wondering where this place is?" she said, trying not to sound nervous. she failed. a bird flapped overhead, swquaking, and once again Kat had the strange experince of hearing two sounds at once. she knew she was hearing bird-song, but somehow she could understand it. unnerved, she shivered slightly.

Siri got home and went to her room, yawning. Those idiots on the bus had ruined a perfectly good nap, one she needed. She'd stood up alll last night trying to finish a Biology report that she'd avoided until the day before it was due. As a result, she had gotten less than three hours of sleep. Grumbling, she placed her bag on her desk and pulled out her Geometry book.

She flipped it open to the correct page, and twiddled her pen in between her fingers, idly staring at the numbers and signs in front of her. Really, Whose idea was it to come up with this crap, anyway? The teachers always said that they'd need it in real life, but, seriously, what good would knowing how to find the hypotenuse of a right angle do her in real life?

Siri blinked, the words on the page becoming blurry. She put her head on her arms and closed her eyes.

Only for a minute...I'll just rest for a minute...

*~*

When Siri next opened her, eyes what she saw was grass. Lots of grass. In fact, that was the only thing she could see. Getting up from her position of lying on the ground, she scratched her face. Really, that stuff could become quite itchy...

She froze at the sight of a sword where she'd just been laying. It was the same one as before. Apparently, she'd...fallen on top of it? How had she managed t not slice herself open? Frowning, Siri decided to dismiss the matter, and rose to her feet. She picked the sword up and sheathed it across her back. Looking around guiltily, she couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was stealing. The sword just didn’t feel like it belonged to her. And yet, some part of her knew it did. Just like some part of her knew this world was somehow real, but the rest of her mind was squishing that part out. This was a dream.

Siri squinted her eyes as a strong gale of wind blew from behind her, sending her hair flying in all directions. Scowling, she ran her hand through the strands to try and put them back into place. Surprisingly, the fell right back where they’d been before. Shaking her head, Siri decided to just go with it. After all, this was a dream. Something was bound to happen eventually.

Siri walked forward once more, in what she thought was the direction she had set off in before. The hill was behind her, at least. After a few minutes of going at a steady pace, Siri thought she saw two people in the distance. Frowning, she continued forward. It kind of looked like one of them was standing above the other, and that other one was lying on the ground…
Picking up the pace, Siri soon came within site of the people. Well, actually…person. She felt quite foolish to find that what she had thought was a dead body was really just a small pile of dirt. It seems that even in her dreams, her imagination ran away with her. She stood there, trying to decide whether she should go up and talk to the man, or if she should turn around and go back the way she came.
