Matawi's mind was spinning. She knew that she wasn't emotionally ready for the responsibility the gods had trusted with her. It was hard to take care of herself, but now... With the thought of having new life in the slowly growing group that was unbelievable and making her sick.
Shaha's point was noted and true. Even in her raged state she knew better than to argue with her brother and worse to argue with Kiji.
"I just wish this had not happened to me." She was close to weeping and giving up on everything. Were this was cubs did? Change her emotions so fast that she didn't know what would come out of her sleek back maw? It was all moving so fast. She couldn't concentrate at the seconds as they slowly slipped through her paws. It was like capturing sand. All of the grains seemed to slip and fall away.
Matawi looked up, almost shocked. There was a small feeling of a connection between Kiji and Matawi. Kiju had already gone through something similar.

Shaha smiled softly and gently nuzzled his sister, his heart going out to her.
"I'm sorry, 'Tawi. I imagine this is very scary for you," he sighed and realized that she would have to give birth. Well, of course, that was a rather silly realization in and of itself, but moreso was that he realized that she would go through at least some amount of pain, as he had heard of childbirth. And he wasn't sure he'd do too well with his sister being in pain.
The lion's blue eyes widened. What would he do should Kiji have cubs again?? His head started spinning for a moment before he shook his head and the maddening worries from his head and brought himself back to the task at hand. Dear gods, he was going to be utterly useless!
"But don't worry. Kiji and I will be here for you. Kiji, you have an idea of what this is going to be like, yes? I'm afraid this is a little out of my league," he trailed off a little bit, embaressed over that fact. He hoped they would become friends, he wasn't sure if he could do without one or the other.

The tone of the leopard's voice, the pain and uncertaintly in her eyes, prompted Kiji to take a step forward, tentatively nuzzling her shoulder lightly. It was almost like watching a past version of herself, which struck a chord with the cheetah.
"I'm sure," she said in a gentle voice. "But I suppose that, even with the most careful planning, mistakes can happen."
She glanced briefly at Shaha, as though for reassurance that she was acting appropriately, but she did not wait for a reaction before turning back to Matawi. "I promise I'll help you with everything that I can. Any friend of Shaha's is a friend of mine." There was something in her brown eyes, a kind resolve, a deep trust, that stood out. "Yes, he's right, I've done this before. I can't say there won't be any pain in childbirth, but there's also pain in hunting when you get kicked. All a part of life, I suppose."
Kiji offered what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "Like Shaha said, we'll both be here for you."

There was still a very long journey ahead. One that might take long than expected with the pregnancy the poor Matawi had been going through. It was growing more and more difficult to travel, that was noticeable enough.
There was a forced smile pushed through her mouth, plastered and fake. It was like a a mold filled with paint made of hatred and darkness. There were so many things wrong. All of them slowly seeping out from their secluded hiding spot in her brain. She was being forced to grow up in a way that was most unpleasant. She had wanted to grow up on her own terms. Not on the terms of cubs. Having to mother them was so unappealing.
Tawi was sure that he face was twisting and at this point she was fine with it. It was best that they travel quickly and all of this unneeded jabber was slowing them down. The faster the cubs came, the fast she could leave them with their father.
"I know you will be here for me." She lashed out suddenly. It was out of the pure irritation of wanting to finish all of this and leave it all behind. She wanted this memory to be gone and forgotten. She would apologize later. After all of this was done and she could comfortably return to her old self. The leopard that she dreamed of being again. A carefree soul. Like a butterfly drifting in the breeze to where ever it would take her. That's where she wanted to be. Not in this wretched world full of dull. Splashes of the old color would return soon. And then she would be truely happy once more.
"Lets just go. I want to leave all of this behind quickly."

The large male immediately bristled at Tawi's biting comment, unknowingly edging a bit closer to Kiji before getting control of himself. This was his sister and she was frustrated and tired and hurting and he needed to accept that, not grow angry with her for having moods she couldn't control.
Shaha stepped towards her and gently rubbed his cheek against hers.
"I'm sorry, Matawi," he wasn't sure what he was more sorry for, her predicament or his reaction to her snapped statement. Either way, he was deeply contrite and hoped that he showed it.
He stepped away to give her space and looked to Kiji. He gave her a small nod and tired smile and turned back to his sister-by-spirit.
"Lead on, 'Tawi," he said softly, trying his hardest to give her a reassuring smile.
The trio then proceeded towards the Pridelands, and the male that would be getting a rather unexpected surprise from Shaha's best friend.
