I just thought I'd post my two favorite poems. They're DEFFINATELY not ones I've written, but I love them both dearly.

One Art
by Elizabeth Bishop

The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.

--Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident
the art of losing's not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

And you've probably all read or heard this one, but I looove it, so I'll post it anyway.

Annabel Lee
by Edgar Allan Poe, 1849

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Here is another poem

Why do we hate people and things,
it only causes sorrow no good does it bring!!
Some people hate because of the different colors of our skin,
or where we grew up, and what we drive in.
Some may hate because of how popular she is,
and others because of how much richer he is.
Some may hate because of what we believe in.
Be it Atheist, Buddest, Muslim, or Christian.
What I think of hate is that it really is mess!!!
And if we learned to love more it would become useless.
So next time you think that you hate someone,
Think the reason over and and let that feeling be done!!

I don''t think that this one has a title, but there may be other versions.

I gained it so
by climbing slow
By catching at the twigs that grow
Between the bliss and me
I hung so high, as well the sky
attempt by strategy
I said it gained it
That was all
Look how I clutch it
Lest it fall
And I a pauper go
Unfitted by an instant''s grace
For that conteted beggars face
I wore an hour ago

That was Emily Dickinson, one of my all-time favorite poets. That isn''t quite my favorite, but it''s the only one I have completely memorized

k... this is a little disturbing. This was after General Field Marshall Paulus and his Generals surrendered in Stalingrad. Im quoting from Antony Beevor's Stalingrad THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!

"A few days later, trouble broke out across the izha...A fight had broken out. 'When I opened the door of the house,' wrote Bogomolov, 'I saw that a German general was grasping the wrist of a Romanian general. When the German saw me, he let go, and then the Romanian hit him in the mouth. It turned out that the quarrel was about the Romanian's knife, fork and spoon, which he claimed that the German had tried to take.' Bogomolov, in contemptuous disbelief, sarcastically warned Lieutenant Spektor 'that if he allowed such behavior to continue, he too would have his spoon confiscated.' eek

Here is a limerick me and a friend wrote.

There once was a guy named Peary,
who wanted to eat a blueberry.
It turned out to be sour,
for about half an hour.
Next time he'll eat a red cherry.

Also, someone posted a quote about where does it say humpty dumpty is an egg, that was done just for kids. In truth humpty dumpty was a cannon, the enemy hit the wall it was on(had a great fall), so when the tried to put it on a unbroken part of the wall they couldn't(couldn't put him together again). Just a fact I found.

Actually, Humpty Dumpty was a satire about a hunchbacked king of England. It was written in the form of a nursery rhyme so that the author wouldn't be taken seriously and killed for treason to the crown.

erm... okay.. it's called Always, Never...

When I close my eyes
You're there, waiting
Always criticizing
Always

Each mistake I make
You laugh at me
Never letting me forget
Never

Why do you do this?
You never leave me alone
Always mocking and smirking
Always

Those eyes that look into mine
I see them everyday
Those eyes just like mine, never blinking
Never

Why can't you leave?
I've begged you to go
You just stare unlbinking and say:
"Always here, never leaving"

I wrote it about the subconscious part of you... erm yeah I a little nervous. I don't usually let others besides my friends read my poetry.. sweatdrop
