She knew that she promised Rivener privacy in his visits with Roux, but that was before the Roc raevan broke free from his coccoon, like a baby bird being reborn. The situation was bigger than their moments together, and being the only adult in the building, she had a responsibility not only to Chloe, but Dr. Kyou and Aphismet as well, to handle the situation rationally and maturely.

"I know I promised you time along with him, Rivener," Natsuki said apologetically, with sincerity caressing every word. Maternal instinct and concern, however, compelled her into over drive. As Roux shivered in the scorpion's arms, she drew the first blanket around his shoulders, instructing Rivener to help. "Though he normally likes the cold, I think he needs a little body heat. Hold onto him, Rivener, I'll get more blankets," Natsuki said, squeezing her hand over his, a silent request to lend her a hand. "Ask Roux if he needs anything. Food. Water."

A storm brewed within her gray eyes. Narrowing her gaze, she had a job to do. Too many people depended on her. At that, she hurried back across the room, and through the door. Wrenching the hall closet open, she started pulling blankets out, and gathering them in her arms.

Roux only held tighter, half laying in Rivener's arms. He struggled, pushing back the thoughts and memories... he didn't want to... they were... it was...

Something... that hurt -so much- he wanted to forget it.

Roux gave a soft gasping sound as he leaned into Rivener and held to him like a man drowning. "Gone, gone, gone. Ow..." he lamented in a painfully choaked voice, reaching up to curl his fingers in Rivener's hair lightly, finding comfort in the familiar action. "Ow.."

Rivener couldn only hold back just as tightly, lacing his fingers into Roux's hair, almost cradling his head. "Roux... It's alright. You're not alone now... I'll help you with anything at all, anything. I'll be here with you for good, okay?" He muttered over and over, trying to comfort the other any which way he could. He didn't want to ask the other to explain what was wrong, as that might frustrate him... Roux would explain when he felt calmer. For now, Rivener only wanted to help Roux feel safe.

Riv pulled the blankets higher around them, wrapping them both together in a tight bundle. He was feeling warmer by the minute, the room losing its icy frosting, and the blankets keeping Riv's bodyheat from escaping any longer. He rubbed softly at Roux's back and arms.

Hurrying back into the room, she plopped the blankets down on the foot of the bed. There was a certain fluid grace to her methodical care, especially when it came to others. All her years logged at the family inn, proved useful when she least expected it. She didn't know how many blankets it would take, so she brought every one she could get her hands on. Layering one atop another, she created a cozy blanket burrito, tucking the loose ends underneath Roux.

"How's that, do you want more blankets?" Natsuki asked, hurrying over and pushing the large window open. She looked rather silly in her nightie with a pair of large rubber snow boots, but unlike her company, she simply couldn't hover above the melting iceberg in the center of her house. Plucking up the shovel, she gripped it tightly with two thickly bandaged hands covered with snow gloves. The warm sea air wafted into the room as she shoveled the ice and slush aside, pushing it toward the window. The larger pieces she tended to by hoisting them up with her hands. She never thought she'd be throwing ice out a window at the beach in September, but her life has been less than normal since her discovery of the Lab.

She had so many questions brewing in her head, but she knew it certainly wasn't the time for an interrogation. All she could do was set about making the room as comfortable as possible. "If you need anything, simply ask," Natsuki said, looking over her shoulder at the pair of raevans. She grunted, feeling her muscles strain as she returned to clearing the mess.

Roux calmed slightly as Rivener spoke and petted. Dark thoughts swirled and he pushed them down, tucking them away into an equally dark corner. He focused on Rivener's acute warmth.. it was.. uncomfortable and wonderful all at once. He'd never before sought the heat like he did now and the blankets helped. Slowly he stopped shivering as he concentrated on the other Raeven.

Roux's grip loosened, expression flattening out once as the assault of intense negative emotion slowly let go of him, fading away and letting more comforting things through. He sighed, looking up at Rivener with his clear blue eyes. He leaned his head against Rivener's shoulder, the look he often got when trying to peice together what he wanted to say in his head.

"Riv'ner... heard." He put his hand against his chest, frowning unhappily. "Ow yes in here. Want here. See yes."

Rivener felt himself bloat with emotion as Roux spoke. His own voice was soft and low when he said: "You heard me?... I was so hoping you would. I missed you. I'm glad you're here now. I'll stay as long as you want." He wasn't sure if it was a good idea to pry, but Roux did seem to want to share his burdens.

"What makes you hurt?" he asked, placing his hand against Roux's on the other's chest. "I want to make it better. Tell me what it is, I'll fix. I'll kill whoever hurt you." He was serious, no metaphorical threat here. He didn't care that Natsuki might hear and have a typical human reaction. He was a Raevan, laws didn't apply to him. He had to see that whatever was done to Roux was avenged.

"Tell me," he repeated, kissing the top of Roux's head gently. "Tell me."

Her words and questions went unanswered, and within her resentment brewed like a squall on the ocean. Tired. So very tired. With ever chunk of ice she pitched out the window, anger brewed within her. Natsuki spent day after day, breaking her back in labor to help take care of Roux, as requested by Dr. Kyou. She did everything asked of her, and yet, all she desperately wanted was to hear 'thank you', or some acknowledgment of her efforts. The ice blistered her alabaster skin, making her ashamed to wear short sleeves. She spent more and more time in front of the mirror daily, trying to cover up the wear and tear mapped out on her face, and for what? To be ignored when a break through finally happens.

Looking over at Roux and Rivener huddled together, oblivious to her dedication and servitude, resentment boiled up within her. After dumping the last shovelful of snow out the window, she merely threw the spade on the wet carpet and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. If they weren't going to give her the respect she deserved as the 'parent' in the house, she would treat them like the children they were.

"I've had enough," she growled bitterly, stalking down the hallway to the kitchen. Her heart felt cold and empty. Filling the kettle with water, she slammed in down on the stove, and snapped on the gas, igniting the burner. "You two can just do whatever the hell you want."

Roux closed his eyes tightly, shaking his head. No... he didn't want to think of it. That night had been dark. He'd frozen himself into the ice cocoon that night with the intent of -never- waking up so he wouldn't have to think of it.

The slamming door startled him, causing Roux to jump slightly. He gave a soft gasp at the loud sound, eyes turning up to look toward the door... He hadn't even noticed Natsuki his world had been so full of Rivener. He looked up at the other Raeven with sad eyes. Turn the subject, think of other things, push... repress... repress.

"Riv'ner.. still delicious." He didn't really -want- to talk about this right now but it was a good subject changer, at least he thought... And he wasn't lieing.. he was good to see Rivener again, so good.

Rivener also startled at Natsuki's door slamming. He frowned at that door, lips tightening. What was her problem? Rivener couldn't understand why someone would be all huffy at this time. For goodness sake, Roux was the only one that should matter to everyone right now.

Riv turned back to the other Frei and smiled at the praise. "Thank you," he said. "You're still very delicious too." He leaned forward, now that they were alone, and kissed the other again. When he pulled back, he hugged Roux tighter. It was obvious the other didn't want to answer his questions, but Rivener didn't want to push. Roux would tell him when he was ready.

"...Missed you," he muttered into the other's shoulder as he hugged.

Natsuki stared blankly at the kettle. Her eyed narrowed as she attempted to mentally force the water to boil faster, but to no avail. Exhausted, and far too tired to pace about, she dropped down into a chair at the dining room table. Her body felt like lead, and Natsuki slumped over, face down on the table. Hot. The room was growing hotter by the moment. Without the biting cold of Roux's room, she hadn't realized the mounting fever and illness inside her.

"I can't do any..." she rasped, her breathing rasping painfully. An invisible vice clamped tightly on her chest, crushing the air out of her system. Frustrated tears of exhaustion pooled in her eyes, streaked down her cheeks, and soaked into the linen table cloth. All she she ever did was take care of other people, and yet there was no one to take care of her. Selfish as it may be, Natsuki knew she was no martyr, but it still felt nice be spoiled once and a while.

Sweat beaded quickly upon her face, quickly spreading to the rest of her body. Her throat felt drier than the desert, yet she felt stifled by humidity. The room rippled before her, as her vision blurred. Like silken bed sheets, she slipped off the chair, landing on the hard wood flooring with loud thud. Gray eyes rolled back into her head, but Natsuki felt relieved. Finally she would sleep. A thin trickle of blood ran down her cheek from a small split above her brow. The flooring cooled and soothed her feverish skin, but the fever showed no sign of relenting.

The kettle screeched loudly, finally getting its act together and boiling. The screams echoed through the house, growing louder and louder.
