He wants power but he wants it through his own hands, Solas in some cases is incredibly shy but that is because he is scared of females. He cannot understand them so it scares him, though he would never admit it to just anyone.

Background: Solas grew up knowing only his mother. His father by that point had died when Solas was around 7 months. Supposedly he had died to protect Solas and his mother from a hostile group of death knights. It turned out that he was shot dead by a man named Ike.
Ike was the researcher who had damaged the DNA of Dakeyras and it had passed onto Solas himself. The ability to manipulate the Iron in the bloodstream was natural to Solas since he was born but he never knew how he could do it. Upon finding this out Solas had gone in search of this Ike and instead he had found Yusa. The man whom Dakeyras had called his brother. Of course the two weren't really related they had just been friends for a very long time. About the age of 13 he happened across a band of mercenaries, his mother by this point had returned back to her homeland unable to cope with the grief and he was left in the care of a Shadow dragon known as Khinsath.
Khinsath being a dragon had no idea how to raise a humanoid, especially one with a shyness like Solas' so when Solas had learnt to defend himself he was sent away to make something of his life. Thus he ended up here, with his friends killed thanks to the help of some imperial princess whom they were meant to guard. He found himself alone in this world except of course for his useless 'uncle' who spent more time in the bar then anywhere else
