"Tsk, you're uncomfortable if a person is within a twenty foot radius of you," Alex chided Kenth gently. "Is it really so bad that I want to be with you?"

The woman pursed her lips. She wasn't trying to be pushy, but there was precious little other way of communicating that would get him to listen. Even now, he was only hearing what he wanted to; she could tell by the comment he made that he hadn't actually heard what she said, only the base words. Alex sighed softly, not one to be defeated by his looming persona. "Doctor, that's not how I show my thanks, it's how I'd like to show you my thanks. The 'thank you' I had in mind is not one I'd share with anyone else."

She allowed her lips to pull into a slight frown, mimicing his own features. "I respect you. I enjoy your presence, and I love the way you think. You're important to me...am I making myself clear?" The frown easily warmed into a smile, somewhat sheepish, her eyes not leaving his. "I would be dead three times over if not for you...I would not be employed at this school, if you hadn't recommended me. I wont ever say these things again, if you don't want me to. If you feel I'm merely a thorn in your side, you need only say, and I will leave you be."

She would have left him with a hug. That would have given her contentment. However...

"That being said, I am a woman of my word. You still haven't answered me straight, even though I've been straight with you this whole time." She had told him to choose; he had not. "Did you do that on purpose, Doctor?"

Alex gave him only seconds to consider an answer before she moved her hands from him, one lowering to slip into his hand as she had on the helicopter; that felt like years ago. She rolled forward on her toes, still leaning against him, using the extra boosted inch or two to press her slightly parted lips to his, sealing him in the promised kiss. Unlike her previous embrace, or any other time where she wanted to be near him, the kiss was not forceful. It was extremely gentle and light, enough so that he could push her away or lean back to break it at anytime. Despite her tendancy to throw her weight around, the Italian youth was very delicate in her tenderness. She would share that affection with Kenth until she broke the kiss, unless he did first; she lingered in the contact, giving it a moment longer, just to see what he'd do.

It wasn't because Kenth didn't want to hear the words, but rather because he refused to want to hear them. The logic sounded confusing even in his own mind. With Alex, anything that he feared to approach would approach him by itself, be it warmth, cares, attachments...things he had thrown away ever since he had decided to hate HIM.

He still hated HIM right now, but it wouldn't be fair to transferr the hate onto the dark skinned woman in front of him. Alex was, in so many ways, like HIM. Her demeanor, her cheerfulness, her need to care for others... It hasn't occured to Kenth that perhaps this was what he really lacked, a care for humanity, that's making him somewhat inferior to HIM and somewhat less popular. Or rather, he had refused to recognize that. Perhaps deep down he wasn't really eager to surpass his brother in anyways, but rather to find someway to oppose him, to stand out as someone completely different. And he had succeded in doing so. However, for whatever reason, this difference seemed to be what was making the woman attached in a way Kenth would never accept, disregarding his human emotions.

But there wasn't logic, there wasn't reason within the woman's actions. It was done, swiftly and decisively, without any thoughts. It was almost instictive. And it was because of this Kenth wasn't able to comprehend her, as a logical being, as a human being, of a being who possessed higher thoughts. She was, in a way, far to simple, yet far to complicated for him to calculate and understand. Should he push her away roughly and tell her to go away, or should he accept her way of doing things? She was here because of him, and he wanted her to be here for the reason of the students wellbeings...but was there something more? Why can't she be replaced by anyone else?

Kenth didn't do anything. His hands dropped from her arm, giving up any form of resistance other than his eyes, which had not left their marks on the woman's face, now so close that it was hard for them to focus. He knew her, as a helper, as someone who had saved him once, or perhaps more than once. But that was all he knew, and that was enough for him to...

Alex's lips tasted a mixture of sweetness and bitterness upon his own.

Her own eyes never left his face, despite the strong desire to close them and simply enjoy his allowance of her closeness. She didn't mistake it for another more than that; he was merely allowing her to make the decision, and there was nothing more to it. No, she would only give in to the knee-bending, closed-eye kiss if he wanted it. As such, this kiss was a gentle display of her affection, and she felt strangely humbled that he had allowed it.

Alex pulled away slowly, reluctantly; although he was unyielding, the moment had been sweet, and she could feel the fast bubbling of the thrill starting to make its way through her chest. For perhaps one of the only times in her life, the fiesty woman was at a loss of words. She rested on her heels, blinking her bright eyes at him, a lop-sided smile on her lips.

In her heart, she rolled together all the times he put himself on the line, the times he saved her and those in his company, the times he lead the lost and did what he had to without so much as a shred of complaint. She added his stoic way of letting her near, the way he looked at her, the hugs she had stolen and the slap she had almost received; there was so much in those few days they had actually been together, that she had no doubt in her mind that her actions were right. There was only one thing she really could say:

"Thank you."

She released his hand and stepped back, her lips still pleasantly burning with the impression of his. Alex had asked for a moment of his time; she had to keep to her word and let the man work. Had she known the thoughts in his head, she never would have let the next thing out of her mouth to pass; however, she was ignorant to Kenth's true feelings of his brother, and she was still caught in the warm arms of elation. "The Headmaster stationed me with...ah, Greg." In her comfort, she had almost slipped on his name! "So, if you need anything..."

The woman had been walking backwards as she talked, her hands resting against her butt. As such, she was able to avoid running into the door, fingers curling around the knob, making sure he had nothing to add before she departed to find her new boss.

Kenth breathed deeply and sharply as soon as Alex let him go. He turned slightly, eyes scanning carelessly across the room. She had gotten what she wanted, that was good, wasn't it? This way, he didn't need to think about what happened in the past, he didn't need to think about how to pay her back for saving him anymore...it was all paid for now.

You are welcome. Kenth merely mouthed the words. Somehow the words got stuck in the knob of his throat and refused to come out with sound. Blue eyes were dimed back into the fading lights from outside, but they were soon lit up again as Alex mentioned Greg.

Kenth shot a cold and piercing look at the dark skinned woman. He had no expression on his face, but his eyes seemed more alerted and somehow, angry than before. There he stared for some moment, and then looked away, this time completely.

"I see." His voice was soft, but it could not hide the sterness and the fact that he had probably said the words in between his grinding teeth. Kenth laid one hand heavily on the desk, bending over and sat back down in his chair.

"If you have nothing else to say, you are free to leave."

Alex flinched as if slapped, although the smile never slipped; she couldn't claim to know Kenth inside and out, but she'd see that look enough to know that he was not happy. She didn't know if it was with her, what she had done, what she had said...but it had to be her, as she was the only one in here to upset him.

"I see," she echoed his words. Her voice wasn't much changed, but there was a tightness that wasn't there before. "I have plenty to say, Doctor, but..." Her eyes fell a little, staring thoughtfully at his desk before resigning herself to the truth, "I doubt you'd want to hear it." Alex would have loved to have sat him down and made him talk about himself, or even...even ask about Greg, and if he really was who she felt he was...perhaps confide in someone about her own self, a past that the Headmaster how undoubtably found by now.

No need to anger him further. What had started as an innocent mission of thanks had warped, and it was her own doing; she felt no remorse, still high off of the shared moment. "Good day, Doctor." She opened the door and slid through, closing it once more behind herself, taking a moment to breathe in the hallway and let her heart get back to a normal pace.

Kenth didn't look back as Alex walked out. He was not angry, but he couldn't help but to feel a little uncomfortable knowing where Alex had settled herself. He figured that perhaps this was the best way. She had gotten her thanks, gotten what she wanted to do, and now he won't have to be feeling guilty about hurting her for saving himself. Everything was paid off, so there was no reason to worry over the past anymore. He would never see her again...as he'd never allow himself to be near that man for the rest of his life.

Fingers darted across the keyboard, and Kenth continued from where he had left off. Alex's intrusion would be soon put to the back of his head, and work would again dominate his attention.
