~Diary Entry #1~

My name is Taelia, and this is my diary.

I live by myself in a medium-sized house in a medium-sized town.

My friends are a little worried about me because I do live by myself. They told me about an adoption center that's in town.

So, today, I decided to go and check it out, it might be good for me to adopt a homeless kid, and the homeless kids need adopting.

I talked to someone there, they had adopted a kid for themself. Their adopted child seemed rather well behaved.

I'm going to go back tomorrow and get some more information.

If I find the right kid to adopt, I will. But, so far, I haven't seen any of the ones up for adoption.

Hopefully, I'll find one that I will be able to take care of.

I've never taken care of anything, not a sibling or a pet, so I'm a bit nervous about adopting a kid.

But, it sounded like there were a lot of kids that had been adopted, so maybe their caretakers can help me if I encounter trouble.

I wonder what kind of kids will be up for adoption.

I guess I'll find out soon.

~Diary Entry #2~

I went back to the adoption center to see if I could get some more information.

As I walked in the door, I felt something touch my back. I turned around, but I didn't see anyone.

Then, this guy spoke up, fussing at a little kid in the garden for throwing dirt at me.

Soon the kid's mom came in and yelled at the guy for yelling at her kid.

While they were fighting, the kid and I started playing together. We played with a ball, and then he wanted to climb up on my shoulders. I did my best to hold him steady.

The mom noticed our interactions and said that maybe I could babysit her kid sometime. I think that might be fun.

I think I will adopt a homeless child, I just hope my inexperience will not cause trouble for either of us.

I wonder who will be the right kid for me to adopt...

~Diary Entry #3~

Today I found a flier about an event going on at the Adoption Center. The flier was advertising an event at the Center taking place today. Apparently, today was a big adoption day, with many children of all ages looking for homes. It seemed that perhaps some of them had needed to find new homes after being with a family, while others were still in their pendants.

I approached the Adoption Center slowly, holding one of the fliers in my hand. Perhaps I would find the right child to adopt this time. The people at the Center seemed nice, so I think I can count on them if I need to.

I opened the doors to the Center, and was greeted by a lot of noise and colorful decorations. Some children were wandering around the lobby, playing with balloons or playing tag. Other children were sleeping in playpens or baskets. There were even a few kittens wandering around. Off to the side, there was a small pedestal that had two oddly shaped pendants.

I stood back from the commotion, taking all the sights in. I walked around, dodging the playing children, and looked at the younger ones that were sleeping. But, I just didn't find one that felt right to me. Perhaps none would, or another day there would be the right one.

I made my way to the pedestal, just to see what the new pendants looked like. One was a strangely shaped circular weapon that gave off heat. The other one was shaped like a star that was apparently a fruit. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to touch them, I didn't want to get in trouble or accidentally harm the children inside.

I then gently put my hand above the weapon one, feeling the heat radiating off of it. I was curious about the star-fruit one, and it was warm as well, so I put my hand over it too. When my hand got close to the star-fruit one, it had a warm glow. I gasped and moved my hand away, afraid that I had done something wrong, and the glow died. I stood there for a minute, and it seemed unharmed. I was a little shaken from what had happened, so I stepped away from the pedestal, and went to go look around some more.

I then stopped by the snack table and got some juice. Several of the kids that had been wandering around were eyeing the cookies, but the person watching over the table kept an eye on the sugary treats. Sipping my drink, I wandered around the Center, but I couldn't take my mind off the glowing star-fruit pendant.

After I had made another round of the Center, I went back to the pedestal. I had finished my juice and thrown away the cup earlier, so my hands were free. I slowly raised my hand above the star-fruit pendant, and it glowed once more. This time, I didn't take my hand away from it, rather, I smiled. I knew that this one was the one to adopt.

Now that I had found the right child to adopt, I went and talked to the people running the Adoption Center. I filled out a short questionaire, and they said they would send me a letter telling me if I was selected to adopt the child I wanted, they said his name was Riku.

Riku, that sounds like a nice name. I wonder where he comes from...

~Diary Entry #4~

Today I recieved a letter stating that I had been chosen to be Riku's guardian!

It's been a while since I've been to the Adoption Center, so I was starting to get worried that they had chosen someone else.

So, I grabbed my backpack and headed off to go pick up my adopted child.

The center was fairly quiet, not many people were there. Maybe they had already picked up their children, or they hadn't got there yet.

A girl named Saturn and a girl named Kaiyumi were very helpful. Saturn had a necklace that I think was her adopted child, while Kaiyumi's adopted child appeared to be a moody teenager.

A girl named Tenshi was working at the center, she had two adopted kids that both appeared to be teenagers. She gave me the paperwork to fill out while she went to get Riku.

When she handed me the star-fruit pendant that was Riku, it gave a small glow as if saying hi. I smiled and said, "Hello, Riku."

Tenshi gave me a bit of advice, and I headed on home.

I carried Riku carefully in my hands as I walked home. I thought he might enjoy the fresh air, having been cooped up in the center for who knows how long.

Once we got home, I showed him all around the house, giving Riku a grand tour.

There's an extra bedroom that will be his, I showed him around and gently placed him on his bed. "This will be your bed when you're older, Riku. But, for now, until you're bigger, you're going to sleep on an extra pillow in my room. That way if something happens, I can help you right away." Riku gave a small glow as if agreeing to this.

I picked Riku back up and showed him my room, and the pillow that he'd be resting on as a pendant.

Once I was done with the tour, I went downstairs to the kitchen. "Sorry you can't eat right now, Riku, but I'm hungry and need a snack." Riku gave a faint glow at this.

I gently set him on a napkin on the table and set to work making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Once I was done, I got a glass of milk and sat down at the table.

"Once you're old enough, I'll make you sandwiches too, Riku. I'm going to take care of you and make sure that you'll always have a place to stay."

Riku gave another glow at this.

So far, so good.

Today, I stopped by the center again to see if I could get some advice on raising Riku when he comes out of the pendant.

There were a couple kids playing outside and chasing each other. One of them asked for a cookie, but then went back to playing with the other child.

Another child ran into me, but it was an older girl named Freya. At first meeting, she seemed a bit grumpy, but soon she grew nicer and opened up. She'd had a rough life it seems, so her grumpiness was understandable.

Freya offered to help with Riku when he comes out of the pendant, and play with him as well. I'm very thankful for the offer, and it'll also be a nice way to get to know Freya better.

I saw some fliers advertising a shopping trip tomorrow with the people who adopted children, maybe I'll tag along.

~Diary Entry #6~

Today I went to see what was going on with the Adoption Center shopping trip. I waited around, and a few people were standing around, but it seemed that nothing really was going on.

So, I went shopping myself and picked up a few items, but I wasn't really sure what I needed.

It was a quiet day at home, for the most part. I showed Riku some of my favorite trinkets around the house, not sure if he could see them, but he glowed softly when I talked to him.

When I went to bed, I put the pendant on the pillow next to me, like usual.
