Fear there might have been, but Tristan's determination made him immune for the most part. If you're determined to do something, even fear cannot stop you, correct? But that's besides the point. What's more important is Tristan's reaction to all of this.

"Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm just afraid to see her again. But thinking about it, seeing as I've spent these hundreds of years trying to become more like those humans she dislikes so much, especially after I left her behind to marry one...I have good reason to be.
