Feeling very sympathetic and understanding she took a step forward, giving his shoulder a light nuzzle with her nose before turning towards the forest. "This way." She was almost certain that she knew where she was going now... Something about the forest looked slightly familiar and she could smell water.

The little stallion hesitated for a second. He was afraid to start moving through the dark now that he had stopped, but he was also afraid of being left alone where he was. Thankfully a nearby hoot of an owl startled him right out of his frightened stillness, and he leaped to follow beside the mare closely enough that his shoulder brushed her flank.

The first brush of his shoulder against her flank made her start slightly but, after that, she began to settle. She followed the scent of the water until they came to a small stream and, from there, she continued to follow it until it broadened into the body that fed the lake that she lived near. She could see the soft glow of the two-legger's fire dying down to light embers.
"Home." She nodded, a soft smile curving her mouth as she turned towards him. "Safe." She always was here... Even if she stayed on the opposite side of the lake she knew that this, her home, was a safe place. The two-leggers would never have chosen this as a place to raise she and her sister if it hadn't been.

Kal stuck nervously at her side as they traveled, only panicking once when he got too close to the stream and a hoof slipped on a rock. Seeing more sky as they approached the lake eased his anxiety ever so slightly, the moon was out, and it was a bit brighter. When they finally got close enough to see the last of the two-legger's fire, the little stallion felt as though a large burden had been lifted from him.
"S-safe? I-I can stay here?" He asked, still trembling slightly, but a fair bit more clear headed than he had been back in the dark woods. And although he was used to sleeping well before two-legger fires were reduced to embers, and across the lake was much farther away from them than his own safe spot, he would be reluctant to leave their comforting glow.

"Home always safe." She nodded slowly as she moved closer to the lake, letting her lips ripple the surface near the shore as she took a sip before turning back towards the pretty white and gold stallion. "Sleep. Sun comes soon if sleeping." She nodded once more as she found a comfortable patch of grass to kneel down on. It wasn't anything like her 'bed' back at the camp... But it was nice enough.

Kal trailed nervously after her, never straying farther than half his body length behind, and when she lay down he pawed at the ground and fretted nearby. "Is it... I-is it okay if I sleep n-next to you?" He finally asked, glancing back and forth between the kind mare and the dying embers.

"Sleep." She nodded reassuringly, shifting slightly to make room for him beside her. She was used to someone staying by her side... Even if it was usually her sister. It was nice knowing that someone was there.

Kal flopped down in a trembling heap next to the mare, and wiggled close like a frightened foal. He had long gotten past the point where he wanted to leave just so she wouldn't see him scared, like he did with so many others he had met. He had been scared when she found him, and now all he wanted to do was stay near her so he could sleep. He wasn't afraid of the dark when he was sleeping.
"Th-thank you," he said weakly, setting his head down facing the dying fires so he could watch them until he fell asleep.
