Amahté may have been being extraordinarily polite in his own subconscious way, but Ana's loaded down arms failed to incite any feeling for assistance in the small plight. He ambled after her, looking back only when she called for Oscar to watch him as he made his descent to the floor scampered towards the bowl.
He turned back to Ana and straightened, reaching over for his cup without a single word of gratitude. The Scent rounded the forlorn table and picked through food, having no idea with which to start with. He...didn't even know what cake looked like. He grasped the cool cup with both hands and shifted from foot to foot, watching Ana expectantly.
"With which should I start?" He prayed he sounded more curious and not like some blundering idiot.

Unphased and indeed unaware of Amahté's less than chivalrous behavior, Ana cheerfully cut up a slice of an overly chocolatey and sticky confection, placing it before the boy with a flourish.
"That's my absolute favorite," she said conspiratorially. "Dunno what it's called, but it's guaranteed to make at least one tooth fall out from cavities by the time you finish."
Giggling at her own joke, Ana began inhaling a piece of whipped cream slathered angel food cake as though she hadn't eaten in weeks.

His green eyes became like saucers as he stared the slice of thing down.
"I wish to keep my teeth," he mumbled with a bit of caution. Half of him was disgusted by the pile of cavity inducing mess before him, the other half was intrigued by its globby and disorganized appearance. Normally he had Mary try his food before he ate it, but watching Ana begin hers without any hesitation made him feel like an idiot. And so, showing a bit more hesitance than he would have liked, he began.
And was almost sorry he had.
It was as though his taste buds were working overtime, and he doubled over the plate, hand flying to his mouth; not a second too late, either. Kings don't normally drool, but, well...
There was always a first.
He swallowed hard and made a face something like a grimace, and messily wiped his hand across his kilt. He didn't necessarily dislike it. In fact, it was delicious, but the fact of the matter was that he wasn't used to eating things so sugary. It was too much for his little system to take.
He made sure to down his second bite with a gulp of milk, looking dazedly over at Ana, "And...and you eat this everyday?"
Amahté didn't think it would be such a good idea to take another bit, but he did anyway just to prove he could.

Ana, perfectly ignorant to poor Amahté's reactions, simply nodded cheerily and moved on to the red velvet cake.
"I do, I do," she said. "I know I shouldn't, but Evie doesn't cook and I don't know how, so it's either cake or salads'n yogurt. And that got old after like...five minutes."
Sipping her milk daintily, she smiled with pleasure to see the boy-king seemingly enjoying her offering.
"Any time you want to," she said rather shyly, "...you can...come over. And...I'll share with you."

"Mary's a pleasant enough cook," he said off-handedly, pushing pieces of cake around his plate. The fact he had complimented her must have set her sneezing, wherever she was at the moment; he never spoke kindly of his caretaker, but Ana didn't know that. He gave a small hum and pushed more cake into his mouth.
"Cake never gets old to you?" he queried, picking up his milk glass with both hands. He wasn't aware of the way the milk coated his upper lip in a mustache, and he licked the corner of his lips, smearing it. "You have all your teeth still, so I guess it's okay."
Amahté played with the frosting left spattered across his plate, dragging his finger through it and dabbing the edges of the dish with the makeshift ink. She was inviting him back for more cake? The little Scent felt a sort of awkward gratitude at Ana's kindness and a blundering smile quirked the corners of his lips.
"All right!" he said; back to business, as always! "I can always spare another visit to such a hospitable host!"
Yes, he definitely planned on coming down this way again, that was for sure.

"Never ever," Ana said cheerfully, licking frosting off her finger. "And I brush my teeth afterwards, so it's okay. S'long as you brush your teeth, you can have as much sugar as you want."
Looking pleased that the boy had accepted her invitation, Ana blushed faintly rosy-green and smiled at her plate.
