Hmm.. does anyone else think the new post regarding the 2% fee is in .. uhm.. well.. really poor English? I understand the fee, and I don't mind... but... uhm.. wow.

(/minor gripe)

Hehehe.. >_>

I'm SO glad someone else is with me on that! Lanzer really needed spell/grammar check for that one! I don't think he used any plurals at all!!

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so! I thought maybe I was in a weird alternate reality and was misreading it or something. It sounded really unprofessional, imho.

I'm totally with you! I've never noticed that in his posts before, but perhaps I just haven't really read many Lanzer posts? Bizarre!

I see this "improved" marketplace working because of the layout and revamp in design but with so many people up in arms over the 2 % fee I don't know how well it will go over in the end. I see it as a plus but I've also not been using the market place much because well...I'm poor and fairly new.

I just sold a MC and didn't see much damage taken from the fee.

I agree.. I've never noticed it before. Maybe it was written by somebody else... and just posted under Lanzer's name.

well, being that i haven't been able to buy a mc for the past couple months, i don't know anything about the new market system. but i do feel the 2% tax is total bunk. what is it gonna solve? to "reduce" inflation? if they'd take a look at the real world, if the merchants are getting a higher tax, then their items are a higher price to counter the tax. all i see is this actually causing MORE inflation.

I have a couple (ok, a wall of text) passages from a Wikipedia article about our topic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_sink

Wikipedia
Gold sink is an economic process by which gold, or any item that can be valued against gold, is removed. The term has become heavily associated with video games that have items of tradable value. Most commonly the genres are role-playing game or massively multiplayer online game.

It's always good to add a new term to your vocabulary! mrgreen
Wikipedia
Unlike real life, virtual worlds have to be fun. Without easy advancement through the storyline or higher character levels, a video game just wouldn't be appealing. Economies in virtual worlds operate very different from those in the real world. Passive gold sinks may be in operation at all times to slowly extract value from the game. Players are usually more willing to accept this method of sinking. Passive sinks would be item degradation, consistent taxes, or decay.

I suppose people will either accept the 2%, or they won't...heh
Wikipedia
Without gold sinks, the amount of gold in the game gradually increases unchecked, causing inflation, resulting in newer and/or poorer players to be unable to purchase things from the market. Without either, the game would reach a point of stagnation due to economic inactivity.

The concept works, and will work here on Gaia.

Be my guest! Some people aren't so hot on Wikipedia links, but I think that article is very good at describing the "online game economy" in a way non-economists (that's us razz ) can understand.

I find it more difficult to use when trying to buy low and sell high... The actuall marketplace window is too low for me, but maybe thats just my computer settings.

I made my 1st sale. Sold off a gold ink I got from the daily chance. It's pretty straight forward. I'll get used to this if I so some more searches. Overall, I like it better.

To those of you who have purchased MC's within 30 days, perhaps you're aware of the beta test of the new Marketplace!
I love it myself! It incorporates a lot of new features, and to those of you who haven't purchased Vending Licenses, they won't be needed in the new system! The catch is, 2% of the sale goes to 'pay' Gaia...but it's virtual gold, so who cares!
What do you all think?

I don't like the closing fee, at all. I know I shouldn't care, it's virtual money. But I don't really understand why they would charge the fee.

It makes me a little fussy, like a middle man in the previously simple marketplace.

I completely agree with you. People will just charge even higher than they already sell I suppose... sweatdrop stressed domokun xp crying stare

If I want to sell some ink for say, 250g, I just up the price to 255g to make up for the 'tax.' It only amounts to 5g of the total anyways. I do not see 2% as unreasonable.

It's also easier to find stuff than before.
