"When will we be departing, Sir?" Isaac asked. Isaac had been anxious to get going and would not let the tardiness of marines be any excuse for him to do his duty. Isaac then looked at the new person. 'This man looks to tired to be ready for combat...' Isaac thought upon close inspection of Simmons. Isaac leaned against a nearby wall growing tired of standing. Isaac ran a hand through his hair, a habit he had when he was anxious. (( http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/griffto/ferenan.jpg ))

((In case any are wondering, there will be action soon. I just wanted to give everyone time to get situated, and at least faintly aware of each other. I will be pushing the plot soon. As for the picture, I'm not entirely sure it's appropriate, so if you could find another, I'd appreciate it. If not, that will suffice.))
"Departure is two hours," he replied curtly and tapped a pocket over his heart quickly. No more cigarettes. Well damn... But I suppose it's for the best. I guess. He sighed softly, and looked around at the trio now standing before him. This certainly wasn't his entire squad, but it was a good start for introductions. Thus far, he even had a favorite. Isaac was looking to be a shining star, an over-achiever, and someone Danes could easily get along with. Things are starting to look up... Now we just have to get a move-on, so I can actually see my people in combat... In all honesty, Gregory was itching for the battlefield. He had heard stories of glory, and stories of horror, but deep inside, he knew the battlefield was where he belonged. He had always thrived under pressure, and been capable of making quick draw decisions when necessary. Only on the battlefield would he truly find a challenge, or so Danes believed.

Arturo had trouble finding the rest of his squad, but after asking a group of mechanics that past by him he was able to find out where most of his squad was. After what felt like hours to him he was able to see Sargent Danes and some other soldiers. So thats my squad leader huh? He thought to himself as he slowed his breathing and took calm steps closer to the rest of the squad. As soon as he was close enough to Sargent Danes he introduced himself. "Sir, Lance Corporal Arturo Vazquez reporting for duty Sir!" He shouted as he gave a salute.

Gregory smirked and looked at Arturo. "State your position, Lance Corporal, and, if you will, be mindful of possible conversations already taking place in the future. I have a great pet peeve for being interrupted." He shook his head and held up a hand. "But do not apologize. This is a fresh squad, and your first time with me. Just keep it in mind." If they keep swarming like this, though, I'll have the entire platoon here within two hours! It was insane how quickly they gravitated toward him, one after the other, seeming to be magnetically attracted to their leader. It was a comforting idea, that they would all focus on him in such a manner, and it almost seemed that they had already built a foundation of trust in him.

(( I only chose it because thats how i imagined my character looking like, just the facial features, but the big sword was a plus for me too... sweatdrop If need be, i can always get another one that will suffice, but Isaac looks like him. I'll begin my search for another picture soon))
Isaac was startled at the shout, but quickly regained composure. Isaac looked over the new newcomer. "At least there's no lack of soldiers, more and more keep coming Sir." Isaac stated. He looked down one of the long corridors that lead to where he and the others were standing. He noticed a couple of the many marines walking in their direction, who knows if they're part of the squad. Isaac took in a deep breath and stretched out his arms.

Arturo saw his mistake, but a moment to late. "Sir Tactical Sniper Sir" Arturo said as he looked at the rest of the squad. wow theres diversity in this squad he thought to himself as he pulled out a cigarette and noticed he didn't have a lighter. "anyone have a light?" he asked left and right before he looked at Sargent Danes "Sir, would you happen to have a lighter on you? an if you do happen to have one may I use it to light my cigarette Sir!" he asked in a raised voice.

((Suppose I should have described the docking area better...))
The dockyard of REACH was a vast expanse of open space, and set into four levels. The top-most floor harbored the largest ships, and as one progressed lower, smaller ships could be found. The Liberty Evermore, being a Halcyon-class ship, was located on the second level, with one the highest, and four the lowest. Each ship was attached to loading lock for restocking, and catwalks extended to the airlocks which existed for human entry. Pocketing the wide open spaces of each level were freight and cargo, large metal containers grouped by the contents within. Hover shuttles could be seen floating by, hauling said containers, and there was a seemingly never-ending supply of marines, dock workers, and various other UNSC members hustling about. Near the loading dock attached to the Liberty Evermore sat Gunnery Sergeant Gregory Danes and the first few members of his squad amongst the much smaller weapons crates.

Danes smirked and nodded, first to Isaac and second to Arturo. "Indeed, Corporal, I do." He withdrew a lighter from his pocket and handed it to the sniper. "Keep it. You'll need it more than I will." Realizing now that he had committed an act of kindness to his soldier, he wondered how the others would process this. Would it weaken their view of him, or build respect? Could his lack of a stern tone, and way speech weaken his command over them, or reinforce their attitudes toward him in a positive light? He hoped it was the latter, but only time would tell he supposed.

((Sorry I dunno why, but i thought it was like Cairo station for some reason...))
Isaac continued stretching for a bit. He looked around this time prepared for the raised voice of Arturo. "Sir no need, i have a lighter but recently ran out of cigarettes." Isaac says as he walks towards Arturo and Danes. "Sorry, it's nothing fancy, just a generic one that came with two." Isaac then holds out his hand to Arturo,"Corporal Isaac Whitman, Heavy Weapons Specialist, nice to meet you."

Arturo decided to take the lighter from Isaac and quickly light his cigarette. "Sir, Thank you for the offer Sargent Dane, but i cannot accept it Sir." Arturo said as he took a deep drag from the cigarette. "thank you Corporal Isaac" Arturo said as he offered out his hand and shook Isaac's hand.

Danes nodded and pocketed the lighter. It was understandable, but he still felt slightly irked. At least they're off to a friendly start, he thought, diverting his wasted emotions elsewhere. There was no need to get worked up and so he did not let it happen. Instead, he sat down on a crate full of MA5Bs and looked up at Isaac and Arturo. "Well, seeing as we're getting to know one another, I'd like to hear some stories. Why are you a marine? Why do you do what you do?"
Putting second thought to the lighter situation, Gregory found even more appreciation for Isaac. He was playing the role of second in command with flair, offering himself in Danes's place. Though the Heavy may not have realized it, that was none the less how the scenario had unfolded. Kudos to Isaac, he thought. I can't wait to see how he handles the field.
((I'd also like to mention that twilight2end will no longer be with us, as he felt incapable of complying with my new rule concerning the length requirement of posts.))

"No problem Corporal" Isaac said as he shook Arturo's hand. He headed back then looked for a sturdy looking crate to lean against. Isaac looked over the squad before him. The Sergeant Danes and Corporals Arturo and Mercy. A four man squad so far. But at the rate they had arrived so far to find Sergeant Danes, more would most likely be coming shortly. Isaac then heard Sergeant Danes talking and diverted his attention to him. "I became a marine to better myself. I felt that bettering myself even further than what I had achieved in school would be by joining the marines. The marines have made me a better man so far I think."
(( That sucks...))

Danes nodded and smiled faintly at Isaac. Pegged him on the over-achiever status for sure... The Gunny couldn't agree more, either. Being in the marines made a better man or woman out of every person that was actually committed to the service, himself included. The change was always noticeable, especially by those on the outside. That is to say, when one had a chance to show those changes to family and friends on the outside. Leaves of absence were much scanter these days, with the escalation of the war.
"And why did you become a Heavy, Corporal?" Being a Heavy had always been something Danes was interested in, but he pursued a career in leadership instead, believing that he could make a genuine difference as he proceeded higher up the ladder. A position of leadership, naturally, was a far easier position to move up said ladder, and thus it is easy to see how he made his decision.

Arturo found a seat on a crate and sat down taking drags from his cigarette. "well it all started when i was born. My Father wanted me to be in the army but my mother had seen combat and knew what it could do to a person, So my mother tried to save me from the military life, but my father got me excited about war." Arturo took another deep drag of his cigarette and almost finished it. "Well when i was old enough my father gave me a ride to the recruitment offices and told me, son if you ever want to feel complete in this life you'll walk in there and register yourself, So i did and well now I'm here." Arturo said as he finished his cigarette and put the filter in his pocket.

Isaac waited for Arturo to finish before he continued on with the next part of his story, how he became a Heavy Weapons Specialist. " Who knows? I guess I wanted to be a leader as well, but I can't trust myself enough with people's lives. There's also something about giving orders that I'm not to fond of. I always like the sense of accomplishment I get when I perform my job perfectly. Plus I like things done a certain, yes I'm somewhat nit-picky. I tend to get irritated when people don't do things right and ask for help, but instead just get lazy and make me do everything. " Isaac finished up. He put his hands in his pockets in an attempt to relax. He wanted to seem casual in the short amount of time they had before going off to kill.
