Janja watched in amusement as Kileji did his best to pick a good direction for them, though it seemed clear to her that he wasn't having a very easy time doing so. She could guess that each direction probably looked very similar to the other directions. When he scrambled left, she calmly stepped after him- though honestly she was quite excited.

"Ok, lead the way!" she said encouragingly, "I'll follow right behind you."

Doing his best to be the greatest adventurer ever for his mother, Kileji toddled onwards down the path he had randomly selected. But he discovered, as he went further and the trees began to close in around them, that the deeper one went into the trees, the louder the jungle noises seemed to become. Every cry of bird or beast seemed to be right beside him, and it took much willpower to stop himself jumping at each one. Kileji was not the bravest cub ever born, and he knew that well enough to never claim it.

But as he walked forward, his steps seemed to get slower, closing the gap between himself as his mother gradually, so that eventually Janja must have been treading carefully to avoid stepping on him. "Mama..." he whispered, not looking back at her, his ears perked up. "Is it always this loud?" Maybe this was why he didn't roam far. Being a quiet cub himself, he didn't like it when things were loud.

His mother could easily see the trouble that the cub was having, it was something Janja was quite used to. Kileji reminded her a great deal of little Jedi, and sadly quite a bit of her father as well. But then, Jedi and Kijibwa had always been so much alike. With a sad smile that Kileji would not see, Janja thought about how much her parents would just love him- but she had to get up the nerve to go back, now not only to face what happened but to face the consequences of her actions. That being, her running away (and taking Jedi with her). Luckily, Janja had no idea just how bad things had gotten when she left.

When Kileji slowed down, Janja slowed down accordingly, smiling down at him when he spoke, "Yes, you just get used to the sound of the waterfall we live by, it blocks out quite a bit of the sound."

She reached forward and nudged him with one paw, "Not getting scared, are you?" Janja joked again, though she knew that he might not get it right away. With a laugh, she leaped over the cub and took the lead, "Follow me."

That seemed reasonable to him, because the sound of the waterfall's crashing water was quite noticeable. He was sure he was only used to it because it had been there since before he could remember. If they had come across it randomly and decided to settle in the den they inhabited now, likely Kileji would not have been happy with their living arrangements. Now that he thought about the noise right next to their home, he was somewhat amazed he managed to find peace there, or rest.

At Janja's mention of being scared, though, Kileji's ears lowered guiltily. Yeah, so maybe he was a little scared... that wasn't so bad, right? But... what if it was? He couldn't let his mother think less of him. Flicking his ears back up, he scuttled forward after her. "N-no, I'm not!" A more unconvincing untruth he'd never said, but he deserved points for trying.

Janja giggled quietly at Kileji's arguing that he wasn't scared, knowing he'd missed that she was joking again. Surely he knew that she loved him a great deal, someone like him had every reason to be afraid if they chose. The world wasn't entirely safe for a cub, but she didn't want him to think that way. Anxiety was normal, he was perfectly fine.

"That's right, because there's nothing to be afraid of when I'm with you," she answered brightly, turning back to wink at him before leading him around to a place she'd gone when she was little. She hoped that the flowers still grew there, that they were just as bright and beautiful.. everyone should be able to appreciate flowers!

And she hoped that she remembered the right way.

Kileji brightened abruptly. That was so very true! So long as he had his mama with him, nothing in the jungle could hurt him. He didn't need to be scared because his mama would protect him from anything! He berated himself inside his own head for not thinking of that on his own, but he felt better regardless. Now that Janja had pointed that out, he didn't even feel all the scared any more, and his steps gained a bit more bounce as he followed.

"So, where are we going, mama?" he chirped excitedly as he jogged up to her side. He couldn't even make a guess at their destination, since he had no idea what wonders the jungle contained. But like all young things, he couldn't contain his excitement and had to ask... even if he knew he wouldn't be told.

Janja continued to lead the way hopefully. Unless something had happened, the flowers should still all be there. And if not, hopefully Kileji would at least appreciate seeing somewhere his mama had played when she was his age. It would make an interesting story, though Janja hadn't yet decided how she might handle questions about her own parents if they came up.

"We're almost there, I think," she answered mysteriously, "I haven't been here in a while so we'll see if I'm in the right place, we might find somewhere new if I'm wrong." At this she laughed, not because she'd never been wrong but because it seemed appropriate.

By now, the little cub was fairly excited. His mother was taking him somewhere special to see something that was going to be amazing, and this was just his first adventure into the jungle! Forgetting his uncertainties in the face of curiosity, Kileji hopped and skipped forward, getting quite under his mother's feet. But he couldn't help it! He just wanted to see this wonderful thing Janja was going to show him.

"Almost where, mama?" He didn't seem likely to be able to handle not knowing for much longer. He seemed about to burst as it was. He was even straining forward, stretching his neck out as though that would help him see this wondrous, unknown thing quicker. He may not be as adventurous as most cubs, but he certainly was inquisitive.

Janja had a height advantage over her son, and could see the trees beginning to clear a short distance ahead of them. She was almost positive they were in the right spot, especially when she noticed that as they got closer the air became sweeter and the area seemed to brighten. And very soon they came out into a clearing in the trees that had many, many flowers all around it.

"Here we are," Janja announced happily, "This is where I made me first friend, not counting your Aunt Jedi or Daddy."

It was obvious Kileji also noticed the sweet scents in the air. Once or twice, the lively young cub slowed down a bit so he could concentrate on sniffing. He could tell they were flowers, but... he didn't recognise the smell. But Kileji was content enough to write that off simply that these particular flowers grew in this part of the jungle, but not near their home. He was too excited still to worry about it too much.

He had to wiggle his way through a little bush that Janja could probably have stepped over to finally see the clearing of flowers, but when he did, the little male's eyes went as round as saucers and he gave a big gasp. As Janja assuredly knew, Kileji appreciated flowers. He would probably never be hyper-masculine; he wasn't greatly interested in typical 'boy' activities, like exploring and rough housing and getting dirty. And he liked to smell flowers.

With a giggle, Kileji leapt forward, enthusiastically poking his nose into every flower it passed, sneezing a couple times when he managed to coat it with pollen. It took him a little while to remember Janja had actually spoken, and turned to face his mother again, struggling to remember what she'd said before he'd bounded off.

"..Who was your friend, mama?" He just hoped he'd remembered rightly.

Janja took a couple steps ahead and turned back to make sure she could see Kileji perfectly when he emerged into the small clearing full of flowers. She was very pleased to see such an enthusiastic and excited expression on his face when he came out into the flowers, and was happy to watch him leap around to play in the flowers. While he did this, she made herself comfortable, settling into a laying position. Surrounded by flowers and watching Kileji.. she couldn't get much happier.

She smiled at Kileji when he turned to look at her and ask about her friend.

"His name was Narcissus," she said brightly, recalling him perfectly. She remembered him mostly because of the necklace he'd made, the one she'd left with her mother before leaving, "He was a leopard, he was really good at weaving the flowers together. I had a necklace made by him."

Kileji came to a complete stop and eyed the flowers almost longingly. If only he knew how to weave them together! He could make another necklace for his mother and she could be as happy again as she was then! But Kileji had absolutely no idea how to go about making one. He'd never even heard of weaving flowers together and making something pretty to wear.

Still, now the young cub was determined to learn for her.

Turning his attention away from the flowers, Kileji bounced his way over to sit at his mother's feet, looking up at her with his big blue eyes. "How'd he do it, mama? How'd he make the necklace?" Well, it was a place to start. If Janja could tell him what he needed to know, he could make the necklace that much faster!

Janja smiled, watching her son's excitement with her great fascination and joy. Oh the little things she learned by spending just a little extra time with her babies. Happily, she took a seat- very much expecting the next question that came, even though she knew she wouldn't have a perfectly satisfying answer for it.

"I honestly was never that good at it," she confessed, though her smile did not waver, "He used his paws and teeth and just seemed to tangle them together the right way." She paused and leaned down to pluck a flower from the ground to consider making an attempt.

True, that Janja didn't know how to actually make the necklace herself wasn't something Kileji wanted to hear, but he wasn't about to let it discourage him. He would find a way to make it work. He'd practice and practice until he got it right. He would have even started now, if Janja weren't there to observe him and figure out what he was planning to do for her.

"Tangle them..." he murmured absently, watching Janja pick a flower. His own paw reached out to poke one of the pretty blooms, as though that alone could convince it to twist around the others nearby and make a necklace for him. "Are you gonna try, mama? D'you think you can?"

Janja set down the flower and plucked up another one before answering Kileji, smiling once she set it down, she glanced down to her son.

"I don't know if I can, but I'll never know if I don't try," she said cheerfully and went back to the flowers to manipulate them into a knot of some kind. She managed at the least to get the stems crossed, but not so that they would stay together. 'Hmm'ing thoughtfully, she considered her options.
