I save chat speak for IMs. When I'm on Gaia or e-mailing somebody, I use proper grammar. I hate it when noobs use improper grammar and abuse the caps lock key. It's annoying and makes it hard for other people to read their posts.

Things I'm fine with: Lol, rofl, (z)omg, and whatnot.
Things I'm not fine with: No punctuation ( , ' . : ; () * etc.), to many grammer errors (I sit in front of the computer trying to understand what I am reading).

I admit, sadly, to being guilty of this at one time or another. Though never so severely and only in places such as the CB or a PM. I utterly hate when people go into places such as writing forums and the ED and have terrible grammar and spelling. I always post about how they should seriously consider using spell check or go back to school.

I don't have a problem with it if the person only uses it occasionally. Like sometimes when I'm in a bit a hurry to say what I need to say becasue my parents are kicking me off the computer for no reason in paricular. (They never have a reason...) then I might use chatspeak. Briefly. More than that is just wrong.
But I have to say, it goes the other way to. In towns I've seen someone talking in chatspeak with a friend. Or in times when I'm uder presure used it myself. Then a nearby person who isn't involved in the conversation and/or doesn't know the circumstances under which chatspeak is being used (ie; goofing around, in a rush, being lazy around friends) flips out. Even if it was just something like lol or afk. I mean really flips out. going on and on about how the person using chatspeak is a total noob and needs to get a life etc. Sometimes going as far as to post nasty comments on the persons profile later. And if some of the people who do this are investigated one will find that they seem to obsess over flaming chatspeak users. Constantly posting topics about it and harassing people.
That's going a little too far. I can see if someone is using chatspeak in a topic talking to people other than friends and not stoping if asked, then people get upset about it. But then it would just be best to ignore that person, not declare war.
In short;
I agree, But it's not something worth dwelling on too much. (says the person who just wrote several lengthy paragraphs about it. xd )
