I've never really gone in for all this stuff myself, but it occupies a few minutes so I guess I'll give it a go.

Cancer (Jun 21 - July 22)- is the cardinal/water sign. Cancerians get things done through the power of their emotional commitment. (It'll be a cold day in hell before I get anything done.) Not only do they aggressively work to accomplish the goals inspired by their own feelings, they also know how to appeal to the emotions of others. (That might work better were it not for my aspergers. As things stand though, no.) By making other people feel like family members, Cancerians effectively motivate others to get things done. (Don't make me laugh, bitterly...) They have to learn how to reach an emotional balance since they tend to be overly sensitive and moody. (Okay, now that one I'll grant them - I have been known to be over sensitive at times, and I was a moody little sod throughout most of secondary school.)

Hmm, not a huge amount of similarity there. The Chinese Zodiac, on the other hand, seems a little more in keeping with how I am.

The Snake (SHE)
Ruler of the hours 9am to 11am
Direction - South/Southwest
Season - Spring/May
Fixed element - Fire negative
Yin/Yang - Yin

Personality Traits:
People born under the year of the Snake tend to exhibit the following characteristics: they are intellectual
(Well, I like to think so), superstitious (Not so much), sceptical (Definately), astute (On occasion), have elegance (Erm...), innate wisdom (Maybe a little, I guess...), and possibly some levels of supernatural capability (Oh, I wish...). Snake people rarely seek independent advice or advice from others (Clearly they've never seen me at work), possibly because on the whole they don't communicate well with others (Now that is fairly accurate). They tend to be very private people, but when they are riled they like to " settle old scores" (I wouldn't disagree with either of those points). Generally they are very deliberate about whatever they say (Hmm, they may be onto something there). They like to think first and speak later and they also have a cautious business sense (Yup). It is in their nature to be very unremitting and suspicious and this results in a character that is both slow to forgive, highly calculative (It varies, really), somewhat hateful in nature and can certainly bide their time in order to reap their revenge (Hmm, less so I think). Other features include: leading dangerous lives that are full of thrills and intrigue (Does Gaia count for that?), yet they keep a firmness of purpose and a clear presence of mind (Hmm...).

The year of the Snake: is a somewhat changeable year, filled with preparation, contemplation and much reflection. Often breakthroughs are made but achieved in silence. Generally the Snake year is not a calm year, possibly a year of sharp dealings, turmoil and even war if differences cannot be resolved. To sum up: the year of the snake is the strongest most negative force of all of the signs.
(Oo-er!)

The Earth Snake - traditional, trusty, is motivated by rationality, unrelenting and dependable.
(Now that bit I would definitely agree with.)

Erm, not to put myself out there but I think it's a load of rubbish...I've never believed in it, and never will.... ><

Horoscopes are true. Al says so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIVeyTG9KB0 razz

My Chinese sign is the Tiger, and it's WAY off. It even says to avoid Monkeys--and one of my very best friends in the world is a Monkey! (Her sign describes her very well--and her son, born on her birthday & at the right time to also be a Monkey... lol )

Well, you're a yang water tiger (I think). According to some website, you're supposed to be perceptive, motivated by tranquility, unbiased, open minded and honest.

I, on the other hand, am a yang wood tiger... apparently I'm enchanting, pioneering, scheming, motivated by co-operation and tolerant. I somehow think that doesn't sound a thing like me.

What does it depend on, the year? I'm 1962, early September.

I'm a Capricorn, too! dramallama

I don't really believe in horoscopes, but sometimes the personality descriptions from astrology can be startlingly accurate. . .

Yup, it's your birth year. You're yin if you're born on an odd year, yang if you're even. As for the five elements, they change every two years. Although the chinese and western calenders don't precisely overlap, as a general rule of thumb, you're element can be determined based on the last digit of your birth year (on the western calendar), as follows:

Metal = 0,1
Water = 2,3
Wood =4,5
Fire = 6,7
Earth = 8,9

Which would mean that I'm wood. Not sure about the rest though (January 5 1984). Can anyone enlighten me?

Not quite, because Chinese New Year was on Feb. 1 in 1984, so in this case you'd be considered as being born in 1983.

Feb 13 1983 - Feb 01 1984 = Yin Water Pig

I don't believe it, but it's good fun anyway blaugh
I'm a Libra, and according to this I'm most likely:

1. Virgo
2. Libra
3. Pisces

Well I'm pretty shy and a pacifist and hate being the centre of attention... I do (unintentionally) act like other people I'm around though. You know its so confusing, reminds me of this episode of 'Meet the Robinsons' I saw when he has to describe himself for a job interview and can't come up with anything. I'm just a mix of lots of things?!??!!

Libra (Sep 23 - Oct 22) - is the cardinal/air sign. Librans accomplish things because they intellectually evaluate what needs to be done, then they charm others into cooperating to achieve the goal. By unselfishly sharing the success of accomplishment with those who have assisted them, Librans nurture the cooperative efforts of others. They have to learn how to deal with confrontation. Their fear of hurting others and also of hostile situations can keep them from reaching their goals.

Sort of... I wonder of this one is more accurate...

Personality Traits:
People born under the year of the Monkey tend to be generally good at "mastering anything" they put their hands to, they are also successful. This is possibly due to a combination of personality traits including: charm, cleverness, quit wittedness and their love of a challenge. They are also crafty, competitive, envious and have a flexible character. At times they are capable of great dishonesty, they can be both self-centered and narcissistic and can often have a superiority complex, believing themselves to be above others. They always manage to give good reason for their deeds and with a total and unshakeable belief in themselves, they feel that they always know best and are seldom discouraged. Although they have a complete lack of impartiality they do have good intellectual skill and good memories. The monkey has an avid inquisitiveness but likes to find the easy way out of any problems.

The Water Monkey - collaborative, elusive, clever, motivated by amiability and sensitive.

Right, let's see...

Personality Traits:
People born under the year of the Boar tend to be: brave (not really), giving (reasonably), like commitment (yes), unpretentious (yes), incredibly enduring (hmm), reliant (yes), strong (mentally) and trusty (yes). They are very patient (yes), loyal (definitely) and do not hold grudges (not so sure about this); they also make very good tutors (done that before now! Teaching a lass to count and read). As a result of their loyal and thoughtful natures Boars make very many permanent companions (not sure), although they do expect others to put up with their shortcomings (yep!). They detest quarrels (definitely. I get upset if I'm near one), but they can be somewhat patronizing (been told that a few times) and "naive" (and that!); this leads to a certain amount of gullibility (true). Boars are selfless (yep), hot tempered (oh yes!), quick surmount their problems (not sure on that one) and always enjoy good fortune (I wish!). Even though others may be entirely wrong, Boars will still listen to them (true, I like to hear both sides of the story). On the whole Boars are quite happy (hmm), they tend to remain in the background of any situations (cos I'm shy) and are very loyal (already said yes!) and considerate (yes). Sometimes they are taken very much for granted (feels like it sometimes!).

The Water Pig/ Boar - motivated by belief (yes, in both myself and others), insightful (reasonably), unrelenting (oh, yes!) and influential (not sure).

Sounds fairly accurate to me...
