"Is it really false now? After all, everyone in the pride is against me and believes I actually did it. Why should I believe you are any different? Because you are my sister?" He sneered. "Why don't you just be like everyone else in the pride, and stop acting the the wise-a** you always tried to be." Obviously Denahi did not care the youngster was near, because his language was still foul as ever. "You don't know me better than that Syeira, you never knew me better than anything. And obviously you don't know /him/ better than that either; I saw no instance of you trying to help mother on that day." At this, his head turned quickly. Even if Denahi was a cold hearted b*****d, the talk about the day his mother was brutally murdered by his youngest brother just killed him inside. Killed him enough to bring a stream of tears to his eyes. He couldn't. No, he wouldn't let Syeira see this emotion out of him.

"It is false, no matter what anyone believes," she said with a frown, though her face hardened at his words. She felt guilty, because she hadn't been there to save her mother from Tamu - of course she did. She still loved her brother, despite it, because unlike Denahi, she understood that there was something in Tamu that he couldn't control. She still loved Denahi too, despite the hurtful things he had said to her before - and the hurtful things he was saying now.

She took a deep breath, one that hurt despite not causing her chest to move too much, and eased herself into a sitting position with a small wince. "Njozi, go lay down."

The young one hesitated, for a moment, glancing back and forth between his grandmother and his uncle, before he simply nodded with a resolved expression upon his little face. With a sigh, he trotted up and into the den, curling up next to the bed of leaves to wait until his Bibi was done talking over whatever she had to talk about. She didn't want him there for it, and he understood.

Syeira watched her grandson walk away, waiting until he had disappeared into the den, and then let her eyes sweep back out towards her brother. "I wasn't there," she whispered, sweeping her eyes back towards her brother, her face stony, but her eyes seemed to show that same pain she felt each time she thought about what could have happened if she had been there in time to stop him. Her cubs hadn't been born long then, she had been needed there by them. "How was I supposed to know that he was finally going to crack?" Her voice was filled with a hollow regret, shaking her head slowly.

When his sister had dismissed her grandchild, Denahi could only predict that they were in for a meaningful talk. Or a bitter argument that a child shouldn't see. Either way, when the male cub headed inside the den, and that's when the charcoal male's head turned around, his bright eyes glistening slightly from tears.

"I wasn't there either." He said slowly. "Remember? Mother was on a trip by herself, and she came here. You know what I did," A snarl rose to his maw, remembering the oh so clear image. "I told her to get lost. I didn't love her anymore." Denahi didn't know about the last litter of cubs she had, the cubs that were considered his half-siblings. "She did. I went to apologize," well, as close to apologetic the charcoal adult could get, "but when I saw him..." The rage flared in his eyes. Denahi had always hated his brother, ever since he was born. He had gotten into many fights with the male. "...I saw her..." He didn't know if Sye had seen there mother lying on the cold ground in her own blood, but he knew he saw it, and that was a picture he did not want to see ever again.

Denahi had never explained the whole situation of why he was returnign to the Kusini lands, not even to his mate Rehani. Now his sister was the only one who knew. ....Great, of all lions it had to be her.

Deciding to change the subject, the male lion moved over to his sister. "You better get inside, you'll heal quicker." His normal, stoic attitude returning.

Syeira fell into silence as Denahi began to explain what had happened. She knew her mother had gone out on that trip to see her son; she had come home with a belly full of cubs, cubs that she had had to abandon when Tamu had taken her life. Sorrow and pain swelled up in her as Denahi's story drew to a close, remembering her mother, how she was in both life and death. Her heart ached as strongly as her body, and for a moment she thought she might not be able to get up from that spot.

As Denahi moved over, though, she forced herself up onto her paws, taking in a deep breath as it jostled her wounds. She knew he was right - she needed to get inside and rest, lay down. She was stubborn, though, and this was perhaps the first time in her life that she was making a real, conscious effort to truly reach out to her brother. She needed him to know that she loved him. "I don't care what anyone else says," she whispered, leaning her head against his neck in a manner she never had before. It was affectionate, though in her exhaustion, probably a little more wobbly than she had intended. "I know the truth, and I love you, Nahi. You are always welcome home, as far as I'm concerned."

She offered him a weak smile, though it was filled with both sadness from her memories and the pain in her body, and turned to head towards the den. She was truly exhausted.
