Issy smirked at his brother’s suggestion, re-scanning the herd and then glancing off in the direction that the two planned to herd them. Well, scattering them would work too, but if done too early, it would just send part of them back towards pride rock itself. That would defeat their purpose and be a little unsafe for the cubs playing around the dens at this time of day.

“Alright, maybe we can herd them out far enough that we know they won’t run back this way, and then edge in towards the middle so that they scatter off across the plains?” he said with a quirked brow, turning his eyes away from his brother and back to the herd in order to pick out the gazelle that was going to be his poor, unlucky meal today.

“I’ll count to three, and then you take that side and I’ll take this one,” he said with a small grin on his lips, slowly beginning to get down into a crouched ready-to-run position. If everything worked out like they planned, Ushu would take the right, he would take the left, and then they could work their way towards the middle once they had pushed them out like they wanted to.

The tan lion nodded as he listened, his red eyes constantly scanning and studying the herd.

"I'm fairly recovered now, I could stand to go for a little run..." He grinned as he said it softly, giving Issy a bump with his shoulder. "Sounds good to me. I'm on the right... I'll keep an eye on you too. Let out a roar or something when we're ready to dive inwards. If we do it together, I can only imagine the faces of those gazelles when they see two big lions baring down on them." A laugh slipped from him before he could stifle it, but was low enough that it didn't carry to the unwary herd.

This would probably be the most fun he'd had in months... even before they started. His spirits had definitely been lifted, and he was enjoying it all to the fullest. Why hadn't he sought out his sibilings before now? If he'd known how good companionship was, he'd have done it a long time ago.

Issy smirked as he watched his brother take position, mirth radiating from him in waves. This really was going to be a good deal of fun – more than he had had in ages. Hell, even tormenting Ilanga probably wouldn’t as amusing as watching the hundreds of gazelle leap and dart for their lives. After all, two lions meant two gazelle at best, but every last one of them would run until they were out of sight – even if they had already taken their kills.

He waited until he was sure Ushu was in place, then crouched down. For a good few minutes, he watched the oblivious prey, and then a smirk spread on his maw. In one quick motion, he leapt and roared at the same time, eyes staring into the depths of the herd. They were already beginning to mill and dash from the sound before he ever got to them – but he immediately took his place to the left. He kept them running, forcing them onward, and dared a glance at Ushu to his right.

A few more minutes, and they’d have them right where they wanted them, and they could scatter them out while taking down their kills at the same time.

Ushu crept through the grass, silent as a leopard in the trees, and just as comfortable in his element. Even as he stalked with serious intent, he couldn't keep the little half-smile from his face. He came to a controlled stop, poised on his paws as caramel ears swiveled to listen for his brother, all but trembling as he waited for the sound of his attack.

When it came, he reacted so fast that there was only a very bare moment before Ushu's roar merged with his brother's, the sound swelling to roll out over the suddenly panicked herd. One lion, while frightening, was nothing to the terror of having two coming in from separate directions. Confused and disoriented, they acted on instinct and dashed in the first available break in the range of death... stampeding in exactly the direction the brothers wanted them to go.

Ushu's roar was more laughter now as he picked up his pace, racing full out as he sought to keep his chosen quarry in sight for when they went for the kill. He wasn't a distance runner, so it would be close if they didn't go for it soon. He flicked his eyes to Issy, almost seeking guidance now and a signal for the next assault.

Issy smirked half to himself, despite the pace that he had to use to keep up with the herd. His eyes found Ushu’s after a few minutes of herding them outward, and a barely detectable nod of his head was the signal he chose to clue Ushu along. There was no time to talk, or give little more than that signal. However, on the off chance that Ushu did not detect the nod, he also let out a rather loud roar as he dove into the back of the herd and made his way up the middle.

The Gazelle reacted just as Issy and Ushu had planned – frightened by being herded and then separated, they leapt off in all directions, running for their lives. That made the whole scene quite the frenzy and also left an open space around a couple of the younger ones who were obviously at a loss as to what to do. A smirk curled on his maw as he picked up one last good dash and leapt onto the creature. In moments, his kill was down, he was panting, and his eyes were roaming around for Ushu to make sure he had had as much success.

They wouldn’t have been able to go much longer, considering gazelle were infamous for their endurance and lions themselves were the short sprinters. Of course, he was sure this was all a way of balancing out nature, and most of the time it kept lions from slaughtering masses of the creatures. His eyes shifted for a moment to the herd – and a laugh escaped his maw. They had scattered to the four corners of the plains, disappearing on the horizon, but all headed away from the waterhole. They wouldn’t take too long to regroup, but hunting for the next few hours was going to be a pain for anyone else.

Ushu caught the signal roar Issy gave and his long, loping run turning into a deadly serious sprint. He streaked through the grass like wind, the pale stalks bending in his wake.

He surged into the herd and they scattered in fright, exploding into all directions that didn't have a lion in them. Ushu would have laughed, but his eyes were intent on one particular creatured as it dashed madly away from him. As he felt his strength flagging, he gathered his limbs under him and pounced, his body arching through the air. It was over the moment his forepaws connected with the sleek, straining body, and his own weight bore the pair of them to the ground.

Bones snapped and crunched as dust billowed around them, and the tan prince snarled as he bit down on the vulnerable neck and ended the struggling life. Only when the gazelle was still did he raise his head, panting hard enough to make his sides heave, and seek out his brother. A bright grin spread over his face as he caught sight of Issy, and he rose up onto his paws to go join him. His prey was dragged between his forelegs, making a rather amusing picture.

Issy chuckled to himself as he watched Ushu drag the carcass of the great creature back towards him, amused by the way it looked. Such a big lion, but still odd looking while he drug a rather large gazelle between his legs. Issy wasn’t sure he could have done that himself without tripping, but then, Issy often had problems with being clumsy. He was sure Ushu wasn’t as bad as he was.

“That was fun,” he panted out, still trying to regain the breath that had escaped him during that long exorcise. He chuckled softly and sat down slowly, chest still rising and falling frantically as he tried to regain a normal breathing pattern. “I have a feeling we just made a lot of lions mad,” he muttered, although he was grinning widely and just barely keeping himself from laughing uncontrollably.

He smirked and leaned down to the gazelle that he had taken down himself, moving towards the more meaty section of the body and began to pull away the outer skin to get to the flesh underneath. He purred as he found what he wanted, tearing off a chunk and eating it rather hungrily as he glanced back up at Ushu.

Ushu laughed, his side heaving, as he dropped his carcass by his brother's, his tongue lolling from his mouth as he panted hard. Dragging prey like that was a learned skill... you can to figure out that there was really no other practical way of doing it before you could perfect that technique.

"Yeah... they won't... be regrouping... anytime soon..." He panted, still shaking in laughter. "That was... great fun!" The great golden form flopped down in the dirt to rest, and for the moment he just let his brother eat, keeping an eye out for scavengers that would want a piece of their kill. At least with the two of them, it was easy for one to keep look out while the other ate.

Ushu couldn't keep his wide grin from his face, and his breathing was slowly brought under control to allow him to do something other than pant frantically.

Issy finished tearing away the chunks of meat he wanted, eating them down happily and licking his jowls clean of the blood that trickled over his dark fur. He let out a low bumbling growl in his throat, content and full, happy and greatly amused for the moment. He should really get around to spending more time with his brother – or any of his family for that matter. Sure, he had gotten closer to Eusi recently, but doing things like this with his family didn’t compare to those little chats. Why hadn’t he gotten closer to Ushu sooner than this? He wished their family was a little closer.

“We should definitely do this more often,” he said with a chuckle, pushing himself up into a sitting position and licking clean his paws. His eyes glimmered as he glanced around, taking over the watch from his brother so that he could start eating his own fill of his kill. He didn’t honestly think that many of the scavengers around here would risk trying to attack two lions for a meal – well, most scavengers around here wouldn’t risk attacking even one, seeing as they were so big. Still, it was always such a bother when they started to lurk around and be generally annoying.

A smile still pulled at Ushu's face as he rolled over and bent to his kill, unable to keep the bubbling good mood from rising to the surface. He took his time, tearing at the choicest bits. He would eat his fill of the best of it, and bring the rest back to Priderock to share with those who couldn't hunt for themselves. That thought gave him pause, and he shifted his attention to meat that wasn't so good. Even if they couldn't hunt, the others deserved to get some of the best at least once in a while.

He filled his empty belly with the meat of his kill, leaving the bulk of it for the others before he settled back on his haunches. He was still smiling as he licked his maw clean, lifting a paw to clean that too. "I agree, Issy." He chuckled. "Soon again, I hope."

When he was done, he sighed heavily and gazed out over the Pridelands, letting his eyes wander. This place... so lovely under the blue sky, golden as the pelts of the liones that inhabited it. And... so very boring. He sighed again, tossing his head to shake his mane back. Even this little diversion, while good for the moment, just couldn't keep him occupied long enough.

Issy sighed contentedly as he pushed himself up slowly into a sitting position, his eyes drifting back towards the looming figure of pride rock. He felt that same restlessness as his brother, although it was perhaps for different reasons. He was not bored, per say, but he felt the need to know the family that none of them had ever met. They were the lions who had given he and Eusi their dark pelts, something unique that made them stand out against the pride they had been born into. He couldn’t really understand the need to know them or he at least couldn’t put any other reason to it except that he felt that he needed to belong somewhere. Sadly, he had never seriously considered leaving – that just wasn’t a part of who he was.

“I guess we better get these back to the pride then,” he said with a small chuckle, “to feed the little ones and the older ones, yeah? The lionesses won’t be having much luck anytime soon.” He simply smirked and threw his brother an amused glance, leaning down to grip his kill at the neck and began the awkward trek back towards pride rock while dragging the carcass along with him.

Ushu couldn't help laughing as he heaved himself up to his paws, his full belly no hinderance when the majority of the kill still clung to the bones.

"You're right. And better to get the meat out of the sun, too, so it'll last longer and be safer from scavengers." He was still chuckling over their little prank as he too seized the carcass at the base of the neck, or what was left of the neck, and began to drag it between his forelegs. It was a long trek to Priderock with such a load, but his jaws were strong, and he could take a nice little nap once he was done.

"Lead on, Brother." He mumbled around the meat in his mouth, red eyes shining with mirth. It had been a good day, at the least, and he'd made a new friend in the form of a brother he'd never really gotten to know till today.
