Luna nodded. Was it odd to see things work like this to muggles? Luna was used to seeing magic and many things that even the magical world found truely unbelievable.

Luna's eyes seemed to gloss over as the girl talked on and on about stuff Luna had never even heard of. Seemed like a lot of work. It was interesting how muggles seemed to get around the use of magic.

"It does sound interesting. I think I shall watch one." Luna said softly as she looked to Harereitt. She would need to know how to use the angel. Magic could not and would be used in front of muggles.

Elizabeth nodded. "we could go watch one now," she suggested. She was hardly being chivalrous, wanting instead to capture the image of angel and human working together on a layer. Her eyes scanned the visible portions of the room and nothing drew her attention. She saw no reason to stay near the front, and instead stood up.

She walked toward the layers, not appearing to wait for Luna but in truth walking rather slower than she normally would have. While she didn't believe Luna was Luna, the girl was intriguing and provided a focus for what would have been an undoubtedly boring day. And, though she did not know it herself, she wanted to become friends with this girl. Any link to her favorite book, on the offhand chance it was real. But this was all on a subconscious level, and all she noticed consciously was that she felt compelled to wait for Luna.

Luna thought about that. That could be interesting. Watching it might help her learn more about her own angel and how to do this without magic.

Slowly she stood up. Luna put her doll back on her hip and dusted herself off. After a few moments she walked toward Elizabeth. Though, you would have thought she was just happening to go there.

"So, is this one?" She pointed to someone at a layer.

Elizabeth nodded absently, sketchbook already held steady with her left hand, the pencil she held in her right hovering just over the textured paper. Her eyes were locked on the attentive form of one of the two combatants. Already, due to the youths flinching and expression, she knew which of the angels was hers. She had chosen to draw the younger of the two. She did youth well. Suddenly, the little girl who couldn't have been older then seven, threw out her hand apparently involuntarily. In her brief lapse of control, her angel struck the same pose.

The moment was too good to waste, The little girls eyes shining in anticipation of the blow that she knew would hit her angel in only a split second. The angel mirroring her pose and seeming to mirror her expression, at least as best it could. She took a mental picture, freezing the pose in her memory as she set her pencil to the paper and began to rapidly draw, to sketch out form and, subtly and nearly unconsciously, give herself hints as to where certain shading should go. Her pencil raced across the page, as quickly as she could make it go for she knew she could only hold the image in her mind for so long.

The angel was hit, its medium weight balanced form, combined with the with the girl's youth and the split-second wasted on the pose, proving unable to avoid the tank that fought it. But the girl was fast enough on the uptake. The blow, which could have been devastating, glanced off the angel at an angle as the angel jumped to the side to doge. Her angel, a mirror image of the little girl though perhaps a bit older looking, still sustained damage, but not to the extent that it would have. It leapt nimbly to its feet, adeptly avoiding another blow from the slow moving and heavy opponent. Though it was not as fast as a light-weight, speed based angel, Elizabeth saw that the girl handled the loss in speed well enough, especially against such a slow opponent. Her hand had finished sketching out the base form and was moving onto the hair that billowed artistically behind the forms.

Elizabeth's attention was split two ways, and only half of her mind was focused upon the art she was attempting to create. The other half was watching the battle with interest. The little girl, despite her age and apparent nativity, seemed to be quite good. The pose Elizabeth had captured seemed to be a rare lapse. The girl's control was precise, hinting that she had worked with the angel for years. And as the miniature of the girl moved on the layer, it seemed not to be two separate entities, nor even an entity controlling an inanimate object. They seemed to work in perfect concert as if the doll were an extension of the girl.

They were not perfect; they left many openings, came near to being hit on numerous occasions. But they were surprisingly good, and the battle only went to show Elizabeth how much she had to learn, how long it would take her, and the fact that, for once, she wouldn't find what she needed in books. This last one was a new experience for her: she had lived her whole life reading, lived through books as she had never been able to in the real world. Books had never let her down. But what she needed was to start work, and then to practice. And practical experience could not be gained by reading numerous volumes about it.

Luna watched the match a little less intently as her compainion. However she was learning a few things. This was a bit odd to her. How did it work without magic? Sure Elizabeth expalined it in muggle terms but that only went in one ear and out the other.

Luna knew that this was going to take a lot of work to understand in the end. Was she really ready for that? Luna shurgged a little to herself. As she turned to looked at the art.

"So, this is it?" Luna said. Talking about the battle and not Elizabeth's art.

Elizabeth watched the match with the distracted air of one who knows what is to come as she nodded in response to Luna's inquiry. Indeed, seconds later the little girl's angel threw yet another punch at the power-based opponent. Dancing out of the range of any thrashing reflexes, the angel nearly seemed to survey the damage it had inflicted upon its opponent. It's head had the slight tilt to the side that was so often seen on puppies and inquisitive children.

Now, finally, Elizabeth had the attention to spare for the young girl's opponent. She wore a look of shamefaced defeat, obviously having not taken the challenge from the little girl seriously. At least six years older, maybe as many as nine, the teenager bore all the signs of one who was accustomed to winning without effort. The fact that she had been defeated by a seven-year-old must have severely deflated her ego. The teenager was heavyset, like her angel. She had before only absently noted the shortness of the angel's hair, but now that thee battle was over Elizabeth had the time to examine the angel briefly. It was a male, the first male angel Elizabeth had seen out of its egg. And it was obviously dressed to intimidate. 'Immature posturing,' Elizabeth thought, shaking her head in disdain.

Elizabeth glanced a final time at each Dues in turn before swiveling to face Luna. "What do you think?" she asked, surprised to hear the slightly possessive tone in her voice. 'But then,' she reasoned to herself, attempting to rationalize the unexpected emotion, 'I did see a battle before she did.' She sincerely hoped Luna had not heard the tone, 'and perhaps I was only being paranoid. Maybe I really didn't sound possessive at all...' she continued down that train of thought, attempting to rationalize something that had needed no rationalization but simply had lacked logic. She didn't even realize that now she did not refer to Luna with the doubtful tone to her thoughts. Though she still severely doubted she was the real Luna Lovegood, she had accepted the name to mean both that person and the one before her. They did not, after all, have to be the same person.

Luna watched it all and then looked over as Elizabeth asked her a question. "Well, it is very interesting. They seemed to be connected. That's how it works. I think I will get it with trainning." Luna nodded.

Of course they 'were connected' that sorta was the basics of it. Still, it's not as if Luna knew that right away. She also didn't care if it made her look a bit slow. She wasn't that at all.

"I wonder if there will be pudding at home." Luna thought to herself as she headed back to the main part of the store. She would have to be going soon.

Elizabeth barely stopped herself from retorting something along the lines of an indignant, "Well, of course the were connected! Didn't you hear what I said?" She doubted many people her own age, even muggles, would have truly understood her. And also, she had a feeling that by saying the angel and the girl seemed to be connected, she did not just mean the mechanics of it. Elizabeth had a feeling Luna meant something more along the lines of the seamlessness with which the two worked together. So she stopped herself, quite unusually, from uttering the first thing that came to mind when she said anything at all. She did not, after all, want to miss the chance to become friends with Luna, whether or not she was truly the character JK Rowling had described.

As Luna began to move vaguely toward the entrance, Elizabeth trailed behind. Her seemingly aimless movements nevertheless kept her within a few feet of Luna. Her mind wandered now to what time it was. Elizabeth held up her wrist, tilting it so the light would not catch on the glass surface of the watch making it impossible to read. The battle, she now realized, had not been short. Despite its relative speed and how quickly it had seemed to conclude, it had consumed a notable chunk of time. Her drawings had taken even longer. And, all in all, a large portion of the day had flown by.

Luna too knows it is getting late. She looked at Elizabeth with a far away smile. "I have to be getting home. It was nice meeting you and seeing a battle. I hope we meet again." Luna nodded and then began to walk out the door. She waved once as she left down the street.

Luna knew her father would be wondering why she had taken so long, but he wouldn't be worried for her.

Elizabeth nodded. She understood the need to get home. Her parents would doubtless be curious as to her whereabouts, despite her having left a note explaining where she had gone and for what purpose. They were, after all, not used to her being vacant from the house except during school. Now, just since yesterday, she had been spending most of her time away from her precious books. That was, at least, how they would see it. In truth, she was staying away from a jealous sister. Though she knew Lily would not dare to be little more than a constant annoyance, it was not worth her presence in the house to have to suffer through that.

Elizabeth voiced a sentiment that she, too, would like to meet again, and waved at Luna as the older girl set off down the street. Elizabeth's gaze wandered to the park directly across the stretch of black asphalt from her, and to the suburban streets beyond where her house lay. But rather that set off down toward it, she turned back into the shop. She had, after all, drawn a person that would most likely want the image. And she still needed money.

((And...I think that's the end of it. I'll translate it to the Journal tomorrow.))
