"Oh, we can't," Missy said honestly. "We'll apologize a lot to her if it turns out to be a girl. That's why we're doing the room in mint green, after all. But it became a habit to say 'him.'"
Tyler didn't much like the other man sitting next to his wife, but he wasn't going to break anything as long as the black man kept his hands to himself.

"Whew!" Soloman declared, grinning happily. He glanced at Tyler and shook his head disapprovingly, "Thought you had to go?" He asked, while looking back to the cabbage. "Nursery prolly ain't' to great an Idea less you two are loaded, they grow awful quick. We bought a crib and he couldn't use it in just a couple months! Waste of money! Better yet, you shoulda asked us, you coulda had ours! It's all black and has these cuuuute little while skulls painted on it!"
"But let me guess. Little junior here has a sparkling white crib with a matching bonnet waiting for him?" Eliot interrupted, his tone something quite miserable at that point.

"Actually his crib does match his dresser," Missy said. "We're going to offer it up to the newer families once he outgrows it, but the dresser should still work as he gets older. I don't think black with skulls would quite fit what I was going for, but thank you."
"It's a fascinating conversation," Tyler said a bit dryly.

"No problem baby!" Soloman said happily, grinning a little. "When he grows outta his kid stuff we can letcha know, deal? Sounds like the kids gonna need a serious outlet with you two as parents." He chuckled. "I mean, some trouble to get in and all that. Can only keep your hands tied in your lap for so long, ya dig?"
"We are in a band. Rock band. Quite famous." Eliot said, more to Missy, trying to grin again.

"He'll be fine."

Soloman sat up a bit straighter and looked to Eliot with wide eyes, "Why dear Eliot, I do believe they would like us to leave!"
"I suspect you're right Chancellor, thou darest leave .. thy.. child.. with.. us?" Eliot started, looking confused.
"You fail." Soloman muttered.

Tyler snorted. "We're going to leave the piercings until he's old enough to decide for himself," he said blandly as he picked up the cabbage and took Missy's hand. "Say goodbye to your new friends, Missy."
"Goodbye boys!" Missy said, waving happily as Tyler led her away. "I was thinking a cream white, but then I remembered that the dresser was pure white--" she started off as they left, completely forgetting about them as easily as that.
