I'm not too sure. I'm just not use to strange, unknown people calling me sweety...><
And besides, I think those kinds of names shoudl either be used if a) the person is your significant other or b) a family member, or c) a friend and d) you're using it to be sarcastic/funny...
But evidently, everyone who calls me that isn't being any of those.

i would feel awkward and uneasy...
However, if it's like a female lady (only in western countries), e.g.. a librarian.. "hi sweetie, can you please keep your voice down..?"
i guess it's like part of their culture to greet someone like that..
initially, when i was studying in Australia, i found it quite strange too.. (coz to use those terms in Asia, it would mean that u are quite close to that person) but after sometime, i accepted it was their way of calling someone.. polite-ness i guess... =P

I don't really mind when people call me "sweetheart" or "hon", but I do mind when people call me "baby" because only my parents should say that me mad I also don't like to be called "cutie" stare I remember when I went to LA and this dude in a Spiderman suit came up to me and was like "How ya doin' cutie?" I was annoyed stressed

when ppl flirt where i am, it's more "ayy giiirrl."
or maybe the occasional "ay baybay" XD
nicknames like cutie, babe, or whatever for me are usually used with couples. but it's still weird then. not used to it.

It can be annoying if it's some old lady or a stranger I don't know. i dont' mind so much if it's someone who I consider a friend. Other than that, it just seems somehow...degrading? Or condescending.
