"I know that well." She looked down at her black paws for a second. She'd always been careful of heat and buzzard, thirst and scorpian, anything the desert could throw at her. Still...
"Hope she does. Don't know how I'd know, but I want to be a good pridemember."

"I'm sure you will be," Aza told the cub. "You want to be, after all - all you have to do is keep that in mind, always, and you are sure to make your pride and goddess proud."
"Already you have the makings of a huntress!" It was true, Ilahle had shown patience and a willingness to learn.

"I'd love to be one." The thrill of the hunt, stalking and catching and running. Proper conflict, tooth and claw, bringing down food. Even the calculated and patience testing ambushes sounded wonderful to Ilahle when she heard hunting tales. And she did want to make them all proud of her, so if she could excel...
"Did you always want to be a huntress?" She latched onto the new topic.

"Then you are certain to be one," she purred with clear approval. "You have the drive, that much is very clear."
Aza nodded. "My family has long fed our pride, and I have never wanted anything less than to do the same. It is dangerous work, particularly given the state of our borders, but I would have it no other way."

"You must be very proud, Aza, to have such a family line." She smiled at the older female, tracing some of her scars quickly with a curious gaze. It was easy to believe she was a great huntress from a good family.
"Are the borders really that bad?"

"All Firekin have reason to be proud of their ancestry." It was obvious the lioness was proud, though, from her bearing and the pride that laced her words.
"I'm afraid so. I've driven off five rogues in the last month alone." Perhaps it was something worth speaking to the King about...she was in the habit of hunting and patrolling on her own, but organizing pairs to go out isntead of lone lions might be a wise move that would make everyone's lives easier.

"Finar-Si blessed us, we're her children." She nodded, the instant reply being the traditional one.
"You should get help. I'd help and Spaki'd help too I bet but we're only small. The weak rogue ones hunt in groups...maybe the Blood should copy their trick and have groups. Except ours would be better of course."

Aza nodded. "Despite our prowess, even Firekin can be outnumbered. My state is testament enough to that."
"Very clever!" she praised the cub, who had seized on and voiced the same idea lingering in the back of her own mind. "I would not want to put the future of our pride at risk, but if groups are formed, I see no harm in bringing either of you along. The experience would be good for you."

Her tail lashed again, this time in an excited way, and her eyes widened along with her smile. The very picture of a happy cub. The idea of going out to watch a hunt, with a group of strong Firekins...to see the rogue lands no less! Where everything was as green as an oasis.
"Really? That would be soooo great! Thankyou Aza"

"It will be my pleasure." Aza purred again, deeply. She was practically as excited as the cub! The huntress stood with a brief stretch, lowering her head to be closer to eye-level with Ilahle. "Just keep on practicing until then, hmm? You'll have a head start on all the other cubs!"

"I will!" The cub looked straight at the hunteress, smiling, then glanced up. Not at the sun, only a fool'd look at it, but off to the side. Checking the time with it's position.
"I'm going to go find Spaki and tell him before foodtime. Thanks for everything."
