"It's not age that makes me better than you," she roared after the yellow child, "It's PRIDE!"
With the ridiculous nuisance gone, Aza limped on to the main den. "Come on, what do you say we get out of the heat awhile? Just between you and me," she said to the white cub, "I'm a little tired."

"What was /that/ all about? " He muttered after the yellow female was gone, and picked up beside Aza again. "I can imagine! " He nodded, looking up at her. "Three lions 'n a weird girl. " He smiled in amusement, however. She'd sure shown that girl-- and here, he'd always thought the guys were the power of the pride!
"Whats your name? "

"Remember that...weird girl," she instructed, reaching the den at last and settling gratefully down, glad her underside had escaped most injury. At least she could still relax. "She is a disgrace to our pride. Such sores must be swiftly cut out."
The huntress arched her neck, beginning to lick clean the wound to her chest. "Azachamorel," she answered between licks, "Daughter of Xamach and Fiametta. And your name, dear child?"
There was no sarcasm at all - she liked this cub.

"Its not like she's easy to miss. " He grinned meekly, sitting down a respectful distance away. "She has very bright fur. " He nodded. "But I will. " He flicked his tail, curling it around his paws and looking at the lioness' wounds. Those looked like they hurt.
"My name is Moto'Spaki! My dad is called Ra and my mom Nyeupe.. Moto, I think. " He just called his mom mom, but his dad's name was a two-letter word. Easy to remember! "Nice to meet you, Azacha..mo..rel. " Long name, what fun. He repeated it once under his breath more quickly, to get used to it.

"Pleasure to meet you, Moto'Spaki," she offered genuinely, continuing her efforts to clean her wounds as best she could. The threat of infection was nothing to be taken lightly. "I believe I met your mother once, actually. When she was your age."
...it was a frightening thought. Though not old by any means, she was practically old enough to be this cub's grandmother! And yet she had no cubs of her own, none to whom she could pass down her skills.
Suddenly, she knew a burst of longing.

"My mom was as small as me? " He asked, a silly question. He knew she was, it made sense, but he'd never tried to imagine her like it. He did now; it wasn't that hard, however. He looked alot like her, he just had to.. imagine himself as a girl.
Okay, that was hard.
"Where did'ja learn how to fight? " He asked suddenly; he knew da was probably good at it, and maybe mom too, but he'd never sene any real fighting up untill now-- well, this had been real enough fr him.

"Mm-hm! I was too, once." Aza's attention moved to the furrows the rogue lioness' claws had raked into her foreleg. It was unfortunate, but she was going to be out of commission for awhile if she wanted to heal fully, let her wounds close and seal fully. it wouldn't do her any good to rip them back open.
"Firekin were made to fight," she answered proudly. "We're the biggest, strongest lions there are. I could teach you sometime if you like, once I've recovered." There was no shame in admitting the obvious to fellow pride, and to her the injuries were as good as souvenirs of victory.

Trying to picture this lioness was much harder; sicne he'd met her, maybe a whole half hour ago, she'd alreayd been giving that 'rough and tough' style. Imagining her as a cub would be.. strange.
He sat a bit taller when she said how much stronger they were than other lions, he was so proud to be a firekin-- and the adults just made him feel even better about it. He wanted to grow up and be strong like they were.
"Really? That'd be great! " He smiled, perking his ears hopefully. If she tought him how to fight.. it'd be great! "and I have siblings! I oculd tell them what you teach me. " He smiled more smugly now, imagining how envious they might be.

"Good, good." Aza fairly beamed despite her exhaustion. "Yes, you should all know how to fight. It is with good reason that Firekin were once feared above all others, and it's time to make the world remember what the desert gives life to."
"That girl-child is weak, but you, Moto'Spaki - you will be great."

He nodded smartly, but wasn't sure how to answer to a praise. So instead, all Spaki, could do was.. Um.. change the subject! Learning from this lioness would be nice, though, he wasn't sure how his parents wouldfeel about it.
"Whats a blasphemy? " He asked, tilting his head. "You kept saying blasphemy. " He nodded, proud of himself for paying attention.

"Blasphemy is a very terrible thing," she informed him seriously, "And to be a blasphemer is every bit as horrible as being a traitor. Blasphemers scorn and curse the goddess Finar-si with their ways and words, denying the greatness of our pride and associating with outsiders, even mixing with them."
Azachamorel's lips curled. "Our blood is the greatest gift Finar-si has given to us, and to dilute it is a terrible sin, Moto'Spaki."

Well, he hadn't expected something that detailed, and she said it so seriously.. Well, Spaki was a cub, and was slightly taken aback. But, not deisring to seem weak, he nodded smartly.
"Do you think that girl used to be a firekin? " He tilted his head curiously. How could that possibl have been a real firekin?

"In form, perhaps, but her heart is not true." Azachamorel shook her head sadly. "It happens sometimes, I'm afraid. It is why she must be made to leave, so that she cannot taint this pride by staying and producing creatures even weaker and more petty than she."

"Traitor.. " He muttered, looking at his paws for a moment. It was kind of dissapointing, to now someone would betray them. he folded his ears for a moment, and pondered. "I'll tell my dad bout her! So he can chase her off if he ever sees her. " Spaki smiled proudly, flicking his tail.
"I can' t cuz she's still bigger than me. " He shrugged. It'd be stupid to challange the juvenile himself.

"Very good," she said approvingly. "I would have taken her past the border myself, were I not so tired. Perhaps one day I will."
The lioness' eyelids were growing heavy even as she spoke, and soon she laid her head on her uninjured leg. "I'm afraid...I'm overdue for a rest. My day...seems to be catching up with me..."
Unable to fight off her exhaustion any longer, the lioness finally fell into the deep sleep her body was demanding of her, despite her mind's protests that it was rude to fall asleep in the middle of a conversation.
