For books, Eragon hands down. For movies, neither. ON one hand Eragon had glaring skips compared to the book. On the other hand, Harry Potter movies are becoming way too "pity me" for my liking. sad

If we're talking about the books, well I've never read Eragon so it would be Harry Potter.
If we're talking about the movies, definitely Harry Potter, because Eragon was one giant gay joke.

Ryuk1Shinigami On the other hand, Harry Potter movies are becoming way too "pity me" for my liking. sad I actually think they did a good job of portraying how Harry felt throughout the books. After Cedric died, he went around in a huge funk in OotP. He was mad at everyone, he wouldn't let anyone help him, he was generally a cranky git. They showed that in the movie really well. Doesn't mean I didn't want to smack him, but they were at least realistic to the books.

Harry Potter is definetely my choice. While Eragon has more about dragons and their riders and the magic they hold together, Harry Potter shows a better effect since each witch and wizard can either stand by themself or join with others. On top of that, Harry Potter was a well-written book with both equal speech and description, where as Eragon was more description then speech. While description is necessary, I think that Christopher Paollini went overboard with it.
J.K. also added in scenes with the villian and tied in everything so that it made sense along the way. However, Paollini left us in the vague spot throughout most of the first book with the King and we didn't really see much action from his side. I know that he was just trying to develop Eragon as a character, but what's happening on both sides is important to the reader, otherwise they'll just get confused. Paollini still has one more book in his triology that's coming out, if he wants to make it the best, he should try to equalize his description and speech.
Of course these are only my opinions and I'm sure everyone has their own. I'm just stating what I think on the matter. Cheers.
