He still couldn't see whoever it was, though he peered hard into the rain. He put his flute into his bag and stepped out from beneath the tree, clapping his hands lightly to keep the same rhythm going. With every clap water sprayed. Picking up the thread of the melody he sang, his voice deeper and louder and carrying much further than the flute could, improvising lyrics as he went.

Ohhh-oh you out there
The sky is more water than air
Ohhh-oh, just come on down
Before you're swept away and drowned
Whatever kind of taur you be
You're welcome under this here tree
Ohhh-oh we'll dance and sing
And let the storm clouds do their thing!

{ xd Absolutely brilliant! surprised ~glompems~ }

Zale listened and followed. The tune had directions in it, that he much his tired brain could tell. He clapped his hands along with the beat, his sodden paws taking him around the tree until he spotted him.

In the dark and the rough riding rain, he could still see the spring green fur. A great load of relief was lifted from him and never had he been so happy to see a single adult.

" Still making your music? " He reluctantly spoke. Surely once the other being started to talk, the music would die.

(Hahaahar, thank you. ;D Though I shouldn't take credit for Moss' work -- the song sprang into my head, practically finished. I just had to tweak it a little bit. -luffs Mossy-)

The bedraggled taur that came around the tree looked like it had already been swept away and drowned; it would have been a miracle if Moss had recognized him, even if it hadn't been such a long time since they met. He grinned and said, "Of course I still make music! Music is the best thing in the world."

He waved his hand for the other to follow as he ducked in under the tree's branches. Then he shook his head vigorously, his shock of green hair sending water flying everywhere. Wiping the wet hair out of his face Moss laughed. "You made it!" he cheered. "Wow, you look really tired. Let's sit down." He leaned against the tree trunk and slid slowly downward against it, humming the same tune and chuckling when he bumped against the ground. "Ahhh, so, let's see. What have we here?" He opened his bag, which was still in its place at the base of the tree, and took out an apple and his flute. The apple he handed to the saturated taur; the flute he twirled between his fingers. It made hollow breathy noises as the air passed through it, just waiting for the chance to continue the melody that Moss was humming.

Even covered in rain water, the satyr seemed to glow brightly as the sun. Maybe the horrid enviroment made it more obvious to Zale..?

Zale couldn't say what surprised him more; the fact the he was remembered or the apple handed to him. Not being the world's biggest fan of fruits, his nose scrunched up but his stomach flourished. The young taur wasted no time scarfing down the apple- even the core inside.

Sighing, he tugged his legs under his large body and leaned his upper half against the tree trunk. " Go on, " He smiled, a yawn breaking up the sentence. " Show me how much music I've missed. "

"I thought you might be hungry," he said in a knowing way when the apple seemed to vanish. "You can have more if you want. They're right in my bag." He crossed one leg over the other and blew a trilling little scale through his flute. "By the way, what's your name? I'm Moss." Another scale, an octave higher, danced with the raindrops, and the satyr tapped his fingers thoughtfully along the instrument's length and smiled at the cattaur.

He didn't want to impose but the only thing out-weighing a cat nap at the moment was his hunger. Zale muled over the satyr's name as he reached over for the sack. Moss. It fit; strange to him but it fit. After all, the male's fur and hair had a tid bit of mossy color to them.

" I'm Zale, " He sat back down with three apples balancing on his left arm and one halfway down his throat. His eyes closed for the tiniest moment. Zale couldn't pass up a chance to slip into a more pure world with just the melodious rain and enchanting music. Bright crimson eyes looked at the satyr with adoration. " Why are you still here, if you don't find it rude for me to ask? It just seems to me that you would have left long ago. "

Moss was pleased that his apples were going to good use. "I'm still here because I'm waiting for it to stop raining so I can pick more apples," he said, gesturing at the apple trees under the rain. "They're nice and red right now, so I don't want to miss the chance." Typical of him to focus on the moment and not realize that Zale was referring to a much longer "long ago."

Now he was certain. The satyr's mood was infectous to be around. No wonder he found it so hard to think of anything else but him when he had left last.

" I'd have to disagree with you on that one. " Zale grinned, shivering as a trickle of rainwater ran down his spine. " I've always found that the bitter green apples have a better taste. "

Maybe Moss could help him with his 'problem'? It wouldn't hurt to ask him but the thought of embarrassment really didn't sit well with the taur. His old habit picked up again as he started biting on his lower lip, completely absorbed in thought.

He smiled and inclined his head in acquiescence. "They're good like that too." He selected an apple for himself from his bag, shining it on his furry knee before taking a bite. Juice sprayed and he laughed and wiped his cheek. When he'd managed to maneuver the bite and swallow it he said, "I mostly like them when they're red." He took another more cautious bite and chomped carelessly on it. With a sidelong glance at the cattaur he saw him deep in thought, and spoke around the fruit. "Wossa matter?" After swallowing, Moss leaned to the side and came back up with a pine cone. He held it out and said, with the utmost gravity, "A pinecone for your thoughts?"

He grinned and happily took the pine cone. " If you can decifer my thoughts, I'd gladly take anything you'd give me. " Twirling it around in his fingers, he thought of the proper way to respond. " May I ask what you know of females? " His tail twitched in the damp foliage uneasily. " I don't mean what they look like or silly things like that but how they act? More so how their minds work? " Any help that the satyr could give would be cherished in his soul forever. Zale's mind wandered to a place of spotted cattaurs, of which both held places in his heart until they began to fight. Grumbling, his paws flexed in the dirt.

Moss tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at the pine needles over his head, saying, "Hmmmm." Then he tilted his head the other way and chewed on his lip, frowning. "Hmmm." His face cleared and he clasped his hands together. "Well! One of my good friends is a female. She gave me this bag a long time ago when we were little. How her mind works... She likes to play and joke around. Or at least she did when she was a kid."

For a moment, Moss actually looked... sad. Or if not quite sad, at least nostalgic. "Haven't seen her for a while." But he quickly recovered from this and continued.

"I think female minds work like ours, basically, except that some of them like pretty things more than some males do. And some of them talk more... But there are lots of males who talk more than some females, and lots of males who like pretty things and wear jewelry and all, so it evens out." He cocked his head to the side again and smiled with an unusual slyness. "If you want to win a girl over, though, I think music is the way to go."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 11, 2007 2:44 pm

Well, if all that is true, then my friend, you are a female. Out of all the taurs he knew, no one played or joked more than the man infront of him. If his 'sister' would have been more adapt to her own ways then he wouldn't be asking people who barely knew him. But, she wasn't and Moss seemed just as good, if not better, than her by the simple fact that he played such music.

That's why it tore at Zale to see that look upon his friend's face and yet, he knew he shouldn't say anything to further pry at it.

" Music, ey? " He grinned, a twinkle forming in his eye. " Are you to say that I should sweep the girl of my dreams up off her paws with a sweet serenade of passion? Or, perhaps a ballad played by the most lovely of instruments? All of that would work just fine if it weren't for the problem that I don't know how to do anything musically. "

"Ahhh, that is a problem," the satyr said mischievously. "But it can be fixed." His mind was already swirling with ideas for how he could fix this problem of Zale's. If Zale could actually hear all of them he probably would not be highly impressed, for Moss retained a certain naiveté that skewed his view of what sweeping the girl of one's dreams off her paws might mean... or even what the girl of one's dreams might mean.

"We'll get to that soon enough. But, first things first." Businesslike, he turned to face Zale and put his chin on his hand. "Who is the girl of your dreams?"

Zale smiled. He couldn't get enough of the satyr. It just felt that every problem he had became some kind of game and thus, took away the sting of every situation that troubled him. " You see..." He began, giving the pine cone a good squeeze for good luck. " There's two. "

The cattaur turned to the elder with a straight face. " My love is for Fuega, a head strong woman whom I've loved since child hood. I wish to make her my mate but I haven't the slightest clue about how to ask her on such things. " Pouting, he turned his eyes to the ground, " Then there's Willow. She's quieter, but definately a loving woman. Without her, I wouldn't be me. I can tell that she loves me deeply but I do not feel the same way about her. I do not wish to harm her but how can I not if I must break her heart? "
