The Order of the Pheonix, and Prisoner of Askaban.
The Order of the Pheonix was very well done, and it was the first to make me cry. It was wonderful to read, because, throughout the book, you get the sense that Harry's life is going in a better direction! He's got his Godfather, for one thing, but the Order becomes a sort of family to him! The relationship between Harry and Sirius becomes prominent and strong throughout this book, and that makes Sirius' death, and Harry's possession all the more empowering!
A book that can suck me in emotionally like that is what I look for when I read. When I can become emotionally shattered, or empowered, by words on a page, that's when I know it's a good book. The depth, the tragedy, the plot, the new and beloved characters: I loved it all!
Prisoner was a refresher to me. I mean, the first two books, I was starting to catch on that EVERYTHING that was happening lead up to Voldemort somehow. Not that I hated that concept, it's vital to the ENTIRE series, but you have to admit it's a little frustrating when you have that constant guesstimate going through your head while you read.
Something strange happens in the Daily Prophet: It's Voldemort. Mysterious deaths, the Chamber open: It'll tie in to good 'ole Voldemort somehow. This book was a breath of fresh air.
Not only that, but it had Lupin. I love(d) Remus Lupin. <3
My heart skipped about 50 times when I read Deathly Hallows, but stopped beating when Tonks and Lupin died.
The last book was depressing. It was hard for me to read the deaths of all my beloved characters one-by-one. I'm sure you understand. cry
