Sura sighed and shook her head slightly. So this was what males were like. For a moment she was tempted to laugh, but she squashed the feeling so that all that remained was a ghost of a smile that flickered about her lips as she glanced back at him. She found it so strange that he should try to conceal discomfort. If she had been him, she would most likely have complained the whole way through.

Then it struck her. Had she not been doing what Jaha was doing now her whole life? Hiding behind a shield of near-machismo, looking always positive and always like she could handle anything when in truth she knew somewhere in the back of her mind that at any moment, she might just forget herself and push her body's limits too far.

She shook her head and turned her thoughts away. That knowledge was to be kept in a secret room in the back of her mind so she never had to feel like the world was crashing down on her, so she could function like normal and actually get up in the morning without feeling hope wash away.

When she finally spoke, her voice heavier with emotion that she fought to keep back. He, of all creatures, couldn't see her break down when she had never done anything like it before. "If you say so, then."

When he heard her voice slightly upset, he didn't know what to do. He didn't really know about the way girls work yet. He was a rouge and had only met Hadiya. But after all, she had left him pretty quickly. To quickly for him to understand the mood swings of women. All that he could think of to say that would probably not make her more upset was, "Are you ok?". He was able to create a look of care and sympathy. The look that would normally be on his face in this situation was confusion and uncertainty. Luckily, he was able to hide the confusion and look like he was concerned rather than confused. Why were women so confusing? One minute she is laughing with him, the next she is stern, and then she sound so sad. How was he supposed to know how to react? He had pretty much grown up alone and taught himself how to do everything and do what he thought was right. Lionesses were so confusing to him. Hopefully he would understand them eventually.

"Fine." She shrugged and kept herself from snapping. It wasn't his fault, she shouldn't be taking it out on him. Yet, she was finding it hard not to, and for a while, she had a small paranoid feeling that everything he was doing was a way of annoying her. She knew, of course, that he wasn't, and she decided against saying anything. It might only further confuse him, and he seemed clueless enough when it came to girls.

"So the oasis is close enough." She said, steering the conversation another way. There was no point in dwelling on it, and perhaps they'd have some more luck if they focused on him for a little while.

"So... Where do you live?" She said after finding nothing else to talk about. "Or are you just wandering around without really any place to go?"

((Sooo Sorry for the late reply ^^ wink )

"Well, I usually live near a river. It had everything I needed. Food, water, shelter, and a place to cool down. But apparently someone else figured that out and drove me away. I came wandering around here to hopefully find another river but so far, all I'm finding is dry dust and sharp rocks.", he said, stirring his paw in the parched desert sand. "But right now, I don't really have much of anywhere to go. Right now I'm just looking for a place to settle."

"I'm glad to hear that the oasis is close by. Then maybe we can rest and get something to eat." Jaha had to make sure that anything he said wouldn't offend her. If it did, he would have no idea on what to do. He enjoyed talking to her. Maybe they could work things out after all.

((S'okay xD Your horse is gorgeous <33))

"Oh," She nodded slightly, although she didn't quite understand. Someone found out and drovehim awaay? That was a strange concept to her. She had been raised in a pride, where everything could be taken for granted - water, food, protection. She hadn't ever thought that perhaps out where there were no pridal boundaries, lions had to defend their own little territories.

"Yea, we can do that. Fish, and little rodents and the like, there's plenty of them here." She said with an air of pride for her homeland. "Oh, there it is." The oasis came into view, like a small speck still some distance away, but it was there and she could see the water already, the afternoon sun sparkling against the surface.

"You shouldn't walk too much on those paws for a while," She added, motioning to Jaha's paws. "They're not going to thank you for anything like that." She paused. "There aren't too many rivers to close to here."

Jaha didn't fully understand either. he wasn't quite sure why they had drove him out all he remembered was a pride had figured out that living near a river is the easy life. It was true. It was pretty easy to catch something dumb enough that it doesn't remember what it did 3 seconds ago. They wanted that luxury and got it because of the safety in their numbers.

"You're right, I should stay off them for a bit. Maybe we could chat for a while.", he said as he lied himself down. He hoped talking might distract him from the pain in his side and paws. After all, it was a bit awkward limping and grunting in pain in front of a pretty lioness. "I should be able to survive after I settle down. Once either my feet toughen up or I get back to a river bed or someplace where there are smooth rocks, I should be able to hunt or at least make an attempt to." He knew he probably wouldn't be able to hunt land animals with his stick-out-like-a-sore-paw colored mane, tail and paws. But hey, implying he at least has a decent chance at being able to hunt sounded more impressive.

Jaha normally didn't take pride in himself or very much care what others thought of him. He just felt the need to impress Sura.

"Well I don't see why not," Sura said. "I can hunt, and I'm pretty much white like you. Only difference is that I'm not quite as bright. But when it comes down to it, it's more about the running than it is the not letting them see you."

Except perhaps for Sura, it was quite a bit about the stalking. She had never been the strongest and healthiest of lions, and although she constantly pushed herself beyond what could be expected of her body, a long hard run took too long to recover from. For the white lioness, getting as close as she could before she had to run was key to her success in a hunt. She couldn't quite run as far or for as long as any other lioness, but she could try.

"If you can run fast enough, long enough, then the stalking won't do so much. Saves some energy, but if it's easy enough to run, then the running is really what counts, not the stalking."

So it was about the running huh? Hmm... Maybe that was true. As soon as he crept up on something and it saw him, he would just give up. He never really ran. But then again, he did do a lot of swimming. He had the muscular legs to prove that. Maybe there was hope for him. But he was sure he wouldn't be able to hunt with his paws all torn up. But after his paws healed, it would be worth a shot!

"You may be white but you saw me from pretty far away. I would think with the prey being very cautious, they might see me before I get within running distance.", Jaha said unhappily. "But, I also think it would be easier to hunt at the Oasis. At least fishing I'm familiar with. When we get there, I'll show you why I like it by the river so much.

Sura shrugged. "Around here, they don't run until they realize you're hunting them. I guess sometimes its good enough just to fool them until you get close enough. They aren't half stupid. But I can't count the times they've let lions walk right by them without taking off. Course, they can tell when we're actually out hunting them."

The white lioness nodded her silent okay, but she still doubted how fishing could be any easier than hunting. Fish were faster, far more agile than a zebra or a wildebeast. "Maybe, but maybe where you're from the fish are much bigger than here." She said a little uncertainly. "I don't know if the Oasis has good living conditions for fish." Needless to say, she had only ever seen the little hairs for excuses for fish in the water, and never any fish with significant size that could even begin to fill a hungry lion's belly.

"The fish weren't too big back at the river, most of them were just a bit bigger than my paw, pointing to his rather large paw. The best part about fishing is, you don't have to run after them. They are stupid. If you don't catch them, all you have to do is wait for another to swim by. And with how fast they breed, you can eat many of them without hurting the population. Besides, the water is beautiful, how the water reflects the light. When it's hot out, you can just swim in the water. Besides, anywhere there is clean water, there is usually fish. Also, there is no competition.", Jaha said explaining the wonders of fishing. He really did believe fishing was easier but that was because he taught himself how to do everything and thought the way he did things was the right way.

"I see," She said with a small nod, although she doubted many of the fish in the oasis would be the same size as the ones Jaha had described. Still, there was no harm in taking a look, and if worst came to wrost, she could always quite easily catch something small.

"No competition?" Sura smiled. How ironic, she mused. Although she was fairly sure that Jaha liked the lack of competition because it was just a survival instinct, she herself thrived on competition. There was nothing to strive for without competition, and with nothing to strive for, life was rather boring.

He was a strange one, he was. But with those paws of his as they were now, he had to stay for a least a little while. And in that time, she was fairly sure she would see more of him than she would have liked. Her life was just that strange. Fate, it seemed, wanted to give her everything she didn't want. But that was okay, she could live with having Jaha around for a while.
