Jamie paused thoughtfully, giving a small tug on his hair as if to confirm her observation. Finding it correct he looked back at her and then murmured, "You hair 'bery red." He stopped for a moment, the cogs in his mind whirling a bit. Then he added, "Like a fire-truck." He liked trucks a lot. And cars too.

Jacoba liked fire-trucks, too! "I's wanna be fireman," she said. "And a COP." (Sesame Street had also done a segment on these particular fine careers.) "D'go VROOOOOOOM in a firetruck to fires an' shoot people."

"Those fun things to be," Jamie agreed, especially liking the fact that firemen and cops got to drive cool stuff. And both had flashing lights. It was so awsome. "I wanna drive race car," he explained after a moment. He put out his hands and turned them slightly, like driving a car. "Go really fast," he said while turning his invisible wheel wildly.

"Drived a garbage truck," said the small redhead, immediately getting enthused at his make-believe: she put out her hands like he was, mimicking driving a car, wrenching the wheel back and forth. There was no immediate reason as to why she liked garbage trucks: they were just large and massive and made a lot of noise. One day, she would possibly fall into throes of mad lust over monster truck weekends. She leant out and joggled Jamie with one elbow, obviously mimicking her truck jolting his racecar. "Vrrrrrrrrrm!"

"Mrrrrrrmmmmmm," Jamie thrummed, mimicing the sounds of a race's cars motor. As she "rammed" him in his car he piped, "A space ship!" He shifted his hands to push them all the way forward and noised, "PSSSHOOOOOEEEEEE~!" Well, it seemed Jacoba had gotten him really excited. The boy sure did love vehicals.

"Prrreowwwwww," Jacoba wailed in sound effect, not to be outdone: there was not a lot you could do to outdo a spaceship. "ROCKET," she said, and made a couple of noises that sounded like a dying cat tied to a bunch of fireworks. Her love of loud noises and things that went boom easily meshed with his love of vehicles. "Whrrrrrrreoowww!"

Jamie wobbled onto his feet and then put his arms out on either side of him. He continued to make the proper noises for a spaceship as he ran around Jacoba, "Psssshhheeeewwwww~!" This was fun! They were both in spaces, ready to destroy alian ships-
"Jamie, settle down, you might bump into a customer," Becca scolded curtly while handing and elderly lady her muffin and tea.
Immediately the boy stopped his noise making and flopped back down beside Jacoba. What mamma said, went. That was how it was.

"The same," Beatrix said tartly, "absolutely goes for you too, Jacoba Darnell."
Jacoba scowled so hard it nearly broke her face, mouth twisted up heavily: she had liked playing alien ships, and she had even scrunched her fingers into guns to go POW POW! at Jamie. "Suck," she informed him gravely on the state of mothers.

Jamie looked sad, but not as devistated as Jacoba. He was used to listening to Rebecca. In fact, he was more used to not playing around since there usually weren't a lot of kids here. "Suck?" He questioned, not understanding her meaning. He hadn't heard that word in that context before. But he seemed keen to learn.

"Suck," she repeated. Obviously he didn't get to watch the same amount of TV, so she would have to teach him the appropriate slang for the grammar. She curled her lip over her teeth momentarily, thinking about how to tell him the exact meaning. "Bad suck. Sucks. Stoopid. Laa-aaame."

Jamie thought he understood. Sort of. "Suck is bad," he reasoned, as if saying it allowed would make it make more sense. He paused for a moment, trying to think some way in which he could use the word. But since he rarely called anything "bad" he didn't know how to do so. Jacoba seemed much better at it then he.
