This works even if you have never seen the show Doctor Who. Get a pen light. Make sure that the light shines blue. Then go around pointing the light to random things while making small whirring sounds and leave the light on the object for a few minutes. After those few minutes turn off the light and say something like 'Hm, my sonic screwdriver doesn't seem to be working.' If someone asks what your doing just say 'I'm the Doctor.' and when they say 'Doctor who?' say 'Exactly, now you get it.' with a big grin on your face and then walk off like nothing happened.
(Will work best if you can get a replica of the Sonic Screwdriver.^^)
