Yeah, when I started out on Gaia anything over about 3k was pretty rich to me because I was saving up for a coal gunner coat. When I got into the 10k and 20k range I felt as if I was pretty wealth. Now, I think people who have a lot of collectibles and gold amount around the millions range rich.

I consider rich 200k + but, I mean, if you can buy what you want, why should you care about being borke for a while, it's not like there are Gaia taxes.

I think I personally am well off, but not rich compared to others out there, just because I already have most of the items I want.

But my own gauge of wealth is that the rich are those who would willingly part with or accidentally lose more than just a couple of thousand gold and not agonize over it.

Come to think of it, it's probably more accurate if I describe the rich as those who are not petty.

There's always going to be someone with more stuff than you. Even if you have one of everything, some people will have two. Or ten. Or fifty. It never ends, because while you're acquiring things, so are they. Keeping up with the Joneses, as it were.

Eventually it'll drive you crazy, especially when it's just pixels.

I used to consider those people who could just drop several million on art auctions as being rich. Until I thought about it, and realized I wouldn't do that even if I did have the gold. I love my avi art (and I'm willing to pay well for art I like!), but I just don't work that way. So are they richer than I am, or just different?

As for items: you have to consider your inventory when you're calculating wealth on Gaia. Holding items is the only way left for your gold to "earn interest". Gold alone isn't a good measure, since most items are easily converted into gold. The analogy in the real world would be just counting someone's savings account as their wealth, and not looking at their houses or stock holdings or other investments.

I have to agree with a earlier post on this thread... if your happy with the avi you have then your richer than the other pixels... but I always suffer from the poor man's mentality on games... mixed with a bit of a pack rat... so what's it take to be rich... items or gold?

Wealth is not determined by simple monetary values. Even if you use 200,000 gold to buy something, you still have that gold, but in a different form. In fact, when it comes to collectables, their value continues to rise so by simply having the item, you become worth more without even trying.

I guess rich would be having a net worth of above the average worth of most Gaians, so figure that out, and you'll know if you're rich or not.
