Lockwood's eyes flicked over Lee as she stood there. Yeah, sure, on the inside there was a smile blustling about, laughter that never made its way to a trained neutral expression. However, one eyebrow flicked up as she stood there, not giving Lee permission to sit, or to be at ease, nor straightening her back in responce.

"So, this is how you prepare for this mission, Captain Lee?"

Turning slightly, she nodded her head toward Aria as she took her own seat, then returned cool, green eyes to Lee.

--

"Right, Emmy." A bit of a flush colored Sonata's cheeks as she tried not to think about Emmy in that light. "I'm Sonata Rourke. I don't think we've had a chance to meet yet. And yes, I'm an archaeologist. Can't say I'm quite the expert on Batman an Superman you are. Bit of a Spiderman fan, personally."

"No, Ma'am. Today is my day off. However, it seems that I was not informed of this meeting until the last possible moment while I was in the workout room," she replied stiffly. Knowing she was in trouble but that she could do nothing about it.

"If I could be given time to go take a shower and change, I should be ready in about fifteen to twenty minutes, Ma'am."

((Ok I won't be able to post again until sometime friday at the latest. Sorry))

Hunter said nothing, not wanting to get in the way of the Colonel getting to know her team. She did not believe for a second that Lockwood was really mad at Lee, but she cleared her throat nervously and stepped aside as if she didn't want to get caught in the coming blast.

Making her way to the conference table, she silently laid out the mission folders, studiously avoiding eye contact with the Colonel, the Captain and the alien already sitting at the table. Let the Colonel do the team building, she thought, I have no interest in making friends.

Anyway, she rationalized, while she neatly laid out a folder at each spot, It will probably suit the mission better if someone plays the heavy, especially with a team so diverse, with so little training, and with so many disciplinary problems. That someone might as well be me.

-----------------------------

"Spiderman," Emmy murmured thoughtfully, "Now there's a guy that's got his s**t together. College education. Science major. Good job. Not so hot when it comes to laboratory safety, but then, hey, who among us hasn't been bitten by our radioactive mutant test subjects at least once, right? Can't say I think much of the bug fetish, though...."

She turned to grin a broad, unguarded, sloppy smile at Sonata, "Hey, if you're uncomfortable calling me Emmy, you can pick an appropriately demeaning and suggestive nickname for me, as part of our bonding process. Something like Sweet Cheeks or Sugar Tush... but I don't want to unduly influence your choice, so I won't give any more examples. But I will say that I am sensitive about my flat a** and lack of boobage, and while I won't object to you poking fun at them, perhaps we should wait until a little further along in the bonding process before you start giving me nicknames like Drainpipe." Emmy spoke in an almost unbroken string of words - leaving one to wonder how she breathed - and in a voice that was always bright and cheerful, as if she were telling a happy story. "I knew right away that you were an archaeologist. One look at you and it was dumb obvious that you aren't military, and around here, you're either military, government or scientist. Government? Maybe, but government types don't normally wear argyle sweaters. Power suits are really kinda the standard issue uniforms for that crew. So I knew you were a scientist, and around here, scientists come in one of four flavours, physicists, biologists, linguists and archaeologists. Your hands are the hands of someone who spent a fair amount of time diggin' in the dirt, so so bammo, that pegged you as an archaeologist."

"Me? It will probably be a little harder to peg me, but then, you probably already know me, eh? Or did you just get told to come fetch me for the meeting? Well, if you have heard anything about me, I have to say that it's totally false. Mostly. Well, it's all blown out of proportion anyway. Well, at least, my side of the story is different. Er... have you heard anything?" Emmy looked a little concerned.

Of all the incompetent. "Well Captain, I hope you'll keep a better eye on things regarding this mission from this point on. You have ten minutes before I officially start this briefing. Dismissed."

Lockwood turned and dismissed Lee as much physically as she did verbally. As she turned toward Hunter, back to Lee, she mouthed a single word with a roll of her eyes. Marines.

--

"I know a bit." Sonata answered with a bit of a smile on her lips, glancing down at the folders in her hands. One of them was, in fact, a folder containing much of the information on those who would be working under her. As the lead scientist, it had what she was cleared to know. The archaeologist was curious if there was anything she hadn't been cleared to know about some of them. "You're a bit of a Macguyver in the lab, when you can focus long enough. Unless something shiney comes along, no?"

Nodding at her dismissal, Lee turned and left the breifing room before she ran full tilt towards her temporary quarters. Once there she stripped, showered and cleaned up. Dressing in her BDU's with her rank and what part of the armed forces she belonged to, Lee made her way back towards the meeting. She arrived about five minutes after the meeting should have begun.

Although when she did arrive it seemed that only the Colonel, the strange woman that was sitting at the table and the second in command were there. Not saying a word, she quietly sat down at the table and waited for the breifing to begin.

((Note she isn't a Marine, she is Airforce. razz ))

((speakin of which, what the hell happened to marine girl?))

"No, no, no!" Emmy said, raising a finger, then twirling pirouettes down the hallway as she walked, "I am an Einstein in the lab. I am a da Vinci in the lab. I am a Michaelangelo in the lab. I am a Mozart in the lab." Abruptly she stopped twirling in front of Sonata, with her face inches from Sonata's, "I am a MacGyver everywhere else."

"Is that my file you got there?" Emmy grinned, following Sonata's glance and putting two and two together. That would be how the quiet archaeologist had found her. She leaned back and continued walking, "Man, if the worst it says about me is that I lack focus, you must have abridged version. Not that I'm gonna complain. The idea of being mysterious appeals to me. And the less you know about my flaws to begin with, the more time I have in your high esteem until you inevitably figure them out yourself."

"Hey," Emmy said suddenly, changing her tone to a serious one without warning, but after a moment's pause, she changed her mind.

"Never mind," she muttered, then turned to smile a peculiarly sad, sloppy smile at Sonata, "I'll find out in the meeting, I guess."

(( yeah yeah. I'm keeping track of a lot of things here, so bear with me ))

As the Captain nearly fled the scene to take a shower, Lockwood looked around the briefing room with a quirked eyebrow. It didn't look like much of anyone had really shown up. All she had was an under aged alien from a backwater planet, a unprepared Air Force Captain, Hunter, and her brilliant self. Wonderful.

Striding to the head of the table, Lockwood flopped into the chair and kicked her legs up onto the chair next to her. From somewhere in the recesses of her pockets, the Colonel pulled a Gameboy from her pocket and flipped it on. Seemed better to vent her frustrations into the toy than to let them become apparent to anyone in the room.

--

"Mmm. Well, I'll have to spend more time with you outside the lab than in. Genius' are wonderful and all, but MacGuyver was totally hotter than any of them." Sonata gave Emmy a little smile then stepped into the briefing room, giving Lockwood with her gameboy a glance as she made her way to a seat.

Emmy sauntered into the room behind Sonata, patting her stomach, and burped impressively. Noticing Hunter standing by the door way she smiled widely, "Helloooooo you!"

Hunter regarded her with a frigid expression, "I hope you're not going to tell us that you forgot about the meeting, Dr. Devereux."

"Nope!" Emmy answered cheerfully, "I was just going to skip it."

She hooked her thumbs into her belt and looked around the room, rocking on her feet, "Wow, what a motley crew we are, eh?" She did a double take at Lockwood, sitting casually with her game, "Colonel? You're a colonel? You're the one in charge of this thing?"

Heather blinked at the entrance of Emmy and tilted her head to the side. When she had sat down earlier she had not noticed the Colonel playing with a gameboy. Now that it was brought to her attention she blinked and blinked again. Ok now this was not something she was prepared for, especially since this was supposed to be a mission breifing.

Even though there was a mix up and she had not been prepared, she knew that breifings did not usually go this way. Plus she had more experience with this kind of thing than anyone in the room currently.

During all of this she had to do one thing and one thing only, stop herself from laughing. It was hard, especially with how Emmy just acted and caused her crack a smile.

"Welcome to the briefing..." she said to the woman. Idly her gaze roamed over the womans form and she had to stop herself. She had been doing so well with keeping her desires in check for a long time now. Heather just hoped her CO hadn't noticed the slip and the blatant ogling of Emmy.

Emmy grinned even wider. "Why, thank you, Cap'n," she said, while making a ridiculously limp wristed salute. Hunter's eyes were on Lee, watching her with an blank expression. "See there?" Emmy said, smacking Hunter in the stomach - the smack was hard enough to make Hunter go "oof". "That's what I'm talkin' about. That's the way to motivate people to come to your little pow-wow's, Pookie. Put a little effort into adding a personal touch. It's just something us human beings do, but you can fake it if you try really hard. See, now I'm all riled up and ready to be briefed. Or debriefed. Or whatever it is we're doing here. Hey, i'm not even wearin' briefs, so it doesn't matter to me."

Emmy say in a chair and spun. "Hey, are me and the doc the last to arrive?" she asked while twirling.

Hunter's eyes were still securely locked on Lee, having drifted only momentarily while recovering from Emmy's smack. Without warning, they flicked away, and she walked over to the table. "We will begin," she said, in her soft, steely voice, moving one hand up to the top of the back of Emmy's chair, stopping it abruptly, almost throwing Emmy out in the process, "when the Colonel says we will begin. In the meantime, you may familiarize yourself with the outline in the folder in front of you, and..." she eyed Emmy, "...try to make as little a nuisance of yourself as possible."

Hunter's eyes locked onto her made Lee feel uncomfortable. She knew she had been caught and that caused her to look down at the folder with the mission outline. Grabbing the folder and opening it, she sighed and hoped that Hunter would stop boring holes into her soon. Lee didn't want to alienate herself from the group. Furthermore, she didn't know what she had done other than the showing up unprepared and the slip in how she looked at Emmy and the smile she cracked...

Well she had pretty much screwed up totally and royally if she thought about it. Sighing again, Lee just hoped that she could repair or at least attempt to appease Hunters opinion of her. Not that it would work, and it probably would just go over as well as trying to tame a wild dingo from the out back of Australia.

Heather really really hoped that Hunter would be open to an apology and would at least allow for a amicable working relationship. Better than nothing, she was stuck on this mission with the woman for better or worse.

After briefly scanning the folders contents, Lee looked back up at Hunter and then stood up.

"Ma'am... could I speak to you for a moment alone, please?" she inquired softly. Hoping to smooth some ruffled feathers with Hunter before the Colonel started it up. This way at the very least, there would be no... well no confrontations on either end during the meeting.

Hunter had been very slowly prowling behind Emmy, keeping a watchful eye on the physicist, ready for whatever disruption she might come up with next - and at the same time sizing up the other two scientists, neither of whom she had had much chance to interact with. Lee's request caught her by surprise. She looked curiously at the Captain, then after flicking a glance at the Colonel to see if she registered any disapproval, gestured with her hand for the Captain to lead the way, ready to follow.

Leading the way to the side room, Lee closed the door once the both were inside. Taking a deep breath and steadying her nerves, Lee looked up at her superior officer before speaking.

"I would like to formally apologize for my appearance when I arrived at the briefing. Also I would like to apologize for the smile I cracked when the scientist arrived and my lewd gaze that I should have not let past my guard," she started off. Lee felt very much like a cadet being scolded even though Hunter had said nothing. Just the disapproving gaze she had been given, well it felt like one at any rate, made her feel like she was back in military school.

"I saw your gaze boring into me and I must apologize for my actions and my behavior. I will take any and all required punishments for my conduct, Ma'am," she finished. Her back was ramrod straight and her gaze afixed to Hunters own eyes. Lee just hoped that the punishment would not be dismisal from the mission itself.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 20, 2007 11:50 pm

Hunter's expression never changed, except for a very slight raising of an eyebrow at the mention of Lee's lewd glance. And slight means slight - you would have needed a micrometer to detect the motion.

"I have no authority to discipline you, Captain," she replied. Her voice was quiet, but expressionless, as if she were reading from a text without any feeling for the emotion in the words she was reciting. "I have been granted no special rank in this situation. I have merely been acting as the Colonel's aide. When it comes to matters of organization, the Colonel is...." Hunter broke off, pausing for a long time while she tried to think of a word that adequately summarized the Colonel's attitude to paperwork while at the same time not being too unflattering. After a few moments, she gave up the struggle and left the sentence unfinished... but the point was made.

"You may not be aware of it yet, Captain, but this mission is going to be a disciplinary nightmare. You have already seen the beginnings of what we will have to deal with. Unlike regular SGC operations, Colonel Lockwood is in charge of the military portion of the expedition only. Dr. Sonata Rourke is in charge of the scientific detail... including Dr. Devereux and the child. Recent and coming changes in the political leadership right up to the presidential level are starting to cause changes to how operations are conducted here. This new arrangement is just one of those changes. As a result, the scientist detail is not directly under our authority as they have been in the past," Hunter explained, matter-of-factly, speaking as if she were reciting a speech she had given a thousand times, "I am under no illusion that Dr. Rourke will be able to keep the likes of Dr. Devereux under control. Which, in essence, means that we will end up playing nursemaids to a bunch of out of control scientists who will be unlikely to be inclined to listen to orders."

"Under these circumstances," Hunter added, as if speaking an afterthought, "I'm sure you will appreciate how much more important it is that we maintain a certain level of professionalism and decorum, Captain Lee." Hunter left the sentence hanging, and waited, patiently, as if asking "will there be anything else?" with her body language.

Lee was flabergasted but didn't let it show on her face. Instead she looked pensive and thoughtful. Still... Hunter claiming that she had no authority, made Lee wonder who was second in command on the team. Lee was used to a military structure of command on a team. She just had thought that was Hunter and it seemed Hunter was saying she wasn't.

"Ma'am... then why have you been looking at me like I have done something wrong? I know I was unprepared when I first arrived, but that was due to a lack of communication," she inquired. Lee was just confused and had no clue as to how to approach this.

"No offense intended, but... it seems like I did something to personally offend you. Although your face seems as impassive as the first time I saw you when I entered the briefing room not twenty minutes ago," she finished. Hoping there was some kind of answers forth coming and that they would allow a better working relationship.

After a few minutes of digesting the rest of the information she had been given Lee mentally groaned. "So what you are saying is that we have no authority over the scientists when it comes down to a fire fight. That they can't be told to pick up a gun and do as told? Great, this is going to be one hell of an op."

Lee hoped that Hunter's facial expression would change at least a little. If it did, then maybe this conversation wouldn't be so bad. Lee was more than disconcerted about this entire conversation. Mostly because Hunter seemed to be reciting everything like a speech and there was little to no inflection change in the tone of the womans voice. Which made her a bit confused as to why Hunter had made her seem like she had done something wrong in the first place.
