Their eyes met and Toby was caught looking her over. He smiled and the corners of his eyes crinkled up. He offered her a smile. She didn't mind that he was looking, did she? He wasn't being lecherous, he was just admiring. Besides, she seemed to want to look back.

"I've never seen you from this angle," Maia said, returning his smile. "I quite like it." She turned sidesattle so she could kiss his cheek. "I keep expecting someone to burst in and tell me this' all been a dream."

Hadn't she? He guessed not. He turned his head slightly to make the kiss easier and then when she continued to speak his smile turned more gentle. He reached up to cup one of her cheeks and caressed it with his thumb.
"It's not a dream. We're really here. I have a hard time believing it too, though. I never thought I'd" fall in love again "have this."

"If it is a dream, let's not wake up." She gave his cheek a kiss. This was real though, a reality so perfect she hadn't been able to imagine it. She looked towards the door all the same. "When does Dari get off?" She asked. She was looking forward to seeing the alien.

Toby laughed again. "What, am I not good enough?" He gave Maia's arm a playful bat. "He'll be back a little after five, you know this. How long did you live here?" Really he just wanted some time with Maia. Dari was fantastic. Dari was his best friend, but when would they ever have a first day again? They wouldn't.
"Are you bored? Do you want to do something else?" His libido reminded him there were plenty of other things to do, but he paid it no mind. His thoughts weren't there. This, as it was, was perfect. "We could go shopping."

"No, you're perfect," Maia assured him quicklu, flashing him a smile. She planted a kiss on his cheek. "I was wondering how long we had." She stood, stretched, and offered Toby her hand.
"We should do that," she said. "What do we need for the weekend? Oh, I can get cake supplies. You'll have to help." Baking a cake together would be wonderful. Your birthday's the eighth?"

Toby's smile broadened, but then Maia left him. Bah. He'd have liked to just sit there some more. Forever, maybe. Maia wasn't one to stick to one activity for long, though. He guessed he'd have to get used to that.
"Whatever we want to eat for the weekend?" he replied, taking her hand and standing. His brow furrowed then and he cocked his head slightly. "Who told you that?" Why was someone telling Maia his birthday? Had he done it and not remembered? "It's the sixth, though." Damn! Why had he told her that either?! Bah, well Dari would have anyway. He started for the key hanger, Maia's hand still in his. "Is there anything left you want to try that we haven't made yet?" He paused and then added clarification. "I mean, anything that we can make here." He could make crepes but damned if he could make foams or fish for exotic species.

"You told me," Maia said, smiling at him. "When I had classes and decided mine. The sixth though... That's even closer than I thought." She gave his hand a squeeze. Something they hadn't made yet. "Want homemade pizza?" She asked. "I heard it's better than what restaurants have. Oh, we could make stir fry."

"Considering how many days are in a weekend, I'd say we could do both," Toby said with a smile. "We could make fried dough at home too. The stuff from the carnival." Neither of them had to worry much about weight gain. They could take some liberties others could not.
The pair headed out to the car and Toby locked the door behind them. "Alright, so pizza, stir fry... chicken and gnocchi?" That was a bit more heavy than their other options, but the weather was getting colder.

"Funnel cakes?" Maia asked. The carnival had been a special moment. "I missed fair season," she observed. She'd forgotten about the fair, being away from home.
"Gnocchit?" Maia echoed, trying the new word. "What's that?"

"Well I meant the big rounds ones with sauce on top, but I'm sure we could figure funnel cakes out pretty easily too." It was a bit of a shame that Maia had missed fair season, but they had had a lot of fun at the carnival just before everything sort of exploded.
"Gnocchi? It's like... it's somewhere between a dumpling and pasta. They're good. I like them with alfredo, personally. They're best when they're made at home, I think, unless you know a really authentic Italian place."

"Oh yeah, let's make those," she smiled at Toby. "We can put cinnamon sugar on them."
Gnocchi sounded good, actually. And it was getting colder, she had no objection to dumplings. "Let's make that tomorrow," she said.

"Sure. We'll get all of the usual stuff. I honestly haven't been out shopping in a while." He held the door open for Maia, as always, but this time he was still experiencing a dreadful case of Boyish Grin.
"Did you know that Lori and his little friend there started dating too? Not long ago, some time late last week."

Maia climbed into the car. "We can go through every aisle," she teased him. "Let's see. We need eggs, cheese--" and most everything, to be honest. Toby's next question had her grinning. "Really? I knew they'd make a good couple! Lori was like "I don't know" when I asked if they were dating and then the redhead was like "Of course we are." mixed signals." She shook her head. "I'm glad they're dating now. Hey! We can go on double dates with them."

"They're kind of a weird couple just... physically speaking. Sort of cute, though, right? 'The redhead' is Luca, by the way, like my werewolf friend with the black hair. Lucasii or something, but he seems to just go by 'Luca.'" Toby laughed then.
"I haven't been on a double-date in more than forty years. It might be fun. I'd like to see them in action." Toby was a good judge of character and relationship potential. He wanted to give the new guy a better run-down than just seeing him in the hall!
