Since the Gloom was locked by the Natu's glare, it could only move to better withstand the burning heat of the Houndour's final attack. The flames found the Gloom's grassy body very easy to burn and caused a great deal of pain for the Pokemon, though out of pure will the Gloom refused to scream out. Its skin was now visibly charred in large patches near its flower, which would add more and more damage as the battle continued.

The Gloom's trainer was now in a strategic mess. He couldn't simply attack; that would only follow up with a two-bird, Flying-move onslaught, which would then lead to a 2-vs-1 against his brother to finish off the match. No, he needed to take one of these birds down. "Gloom, Sleep Powder on that blue bird!" he ordered. Aiming its flower bud once again, a big burst of white powder flew straight at Ulani.

Ky smiled. "Little Guy! Knock Ulani out of the way!" he called out. Without any hesitation, the little bird rocketed off the ground to hit Ulani square in the side. Not a very nice reply to the blue bird's original greeting, but the intent was more than worth it. Instead of hitting the intended target, the powder rushed over Little Guy at the last second. After a few futile flaps of his wings, Little Guy fell with a 'thump' to the ground, fast asleep.

"What the..." the boy said in confusion. He then shrugged, grinning. "Well, as long as I got one of them."

Ky, of course, was grinning more. He wouldn't be a good trainer if he didn't know his first Pokemon's natural ability. Little Guy might be out for one turn, at the very most.

Mike sighed. He knew Whitney's request was something even a once in a lifetime miracle couldn't cure. "Sorry love, but trouble follows that girl like a Slowbro's tail." The boy gave a regretful look, placing his hand on the Gym Leader's for comfort. "But don't worry, this might suck rocks, but like any problem, it can be solved." He wished he believed that. Truth is, he had no idea how to deal with this problem. Not only was the enemy stronger, but he had an inside agent, gathering information.

If only I could get my hands around that boy, I'd-ah crap! Mike gasped. He knows about my strongest Pokemon! s**t! He thought back to no less than an hour ago, when Rai asked him about his possible choices for the battle against the relic. Well, there goes one strategic advantage out the window. Great. So far things were going completely backwards. He was supposed to be the shining gleaming hero. "Maybe next time." He said to himself, turning from Whitney and walking towards the Pokemon Center.

In spite of everything terrible that had happened, Whitney found comfort in Mike's words, whether or not he believed in what he had said to her. She cocked her head a little bit, kind of watching him walk away, a hand idly resting on a Pokeball at her belt. Unclipping it, she held it in her hand for a moment, spinning it slowly in between her fingers. She released the Pokemon inside, revealing a Miltank; walking away a tad, she sat on the ground, being joined by her Miltank a moment later. It mooed, a look of concern present on her face.

Whitney chuckled, and that mainly masked the frustration that was still coursing throughout her. "Everything that can possibly go wrong right now, is, Miltank. I'm losing my sister to potential insanity, I lost a friend who was actually a double agent and was telling Maorde information about us, I feel like I'm losing my own identity..."

Pause.

"And yet somehow I still find myself slightly enamorated with someone." Chuckle. "Twisted, isn't it?"
The cow shook its head, and mooed again. The Gym Leader smiled a little bit. "I wish I could understand you." Biting her lip for a moment, she pulled her knees closely to her body, wrapping her arms around them and laying her head sideways on them, closing her eyes.

Miltank glanced at Whitney for perhaps a second or two, then got on all fours and turned around. She spotted Mike walking off to the Pokemon Center, and trotted off after him.

Ulani gave an indignant squawk as she was less than gracefully tackled off to the side -- by her teammate, no less! -- taking time to turn around and glare daggers at. . . Wait, where was Little Guy? She glanced up, sideways, and finally down to see that the Natu was fast asleep. Oh, so that had been the case! She couldn't be angry after all, only grateful; that could only be seen as fortunate, what with Ulani's ability to hold a grudge better than the ocean held water.

Mary-Anne, on the other hand, wasn't totally certain of what Ky was thinking of -- she still had much to learn about Pokemon -- but she knew her teammate had given them a chance to move. They'd better hit 'em fast and hard. "Fly up and dive for a Peck!" she said, pointing a slim index finger towards the Gloom. She was certain that it'd hit hardest there, as opposed to the Wooper; besides that, who knew what other status-inflictions Gloom could cast upon them? M.A. didn't want to wait to find out.

"Hey hey, they're leaving us out of the battle here!" the Wooper trainer whined as his Pokemon flounced happily from side to side. It seemed that this little blue one couldn't care less what happened around it -- it was in its own colorful, cheery world. But the previous move Little Guy had performed for Ulani certainly impressed the boy, although he wasn't exactly sure why the bird had spared the other. They have better teamwork than we do. . . Let's change that! he thought, yelling out a command. The Wooper waddled forward as quickly as it could to comply, eying Ulani carefully as she nose-dived. At the very last second, the Water-type took the blow for its teammate, although the Wooper couldn't help but give a cry for it was rather painful. Jeez, chivalry! What it did to a Pokemon!

The last of his memories were still lingering in the back of his mind as Jaeshan came upon the woodsy entrance to the Petalburg Woods. A fence seemed to line either side of it, stretching out for miles (and was probably there to try and keep people from damaging the forest by trudging through unexplored areas) and Jaeshan breathed in the fresh, aromatic scent of the trees and other greenery that awaited him inside.

"Come on, Torchic, let's get going," he said, motioning to the baby Pokemon to follow him. Chirping excitedly, she hobbled along after him, staying at his heels and staring wide-eyed at everything in sight.

There was a noticeable dip in both the temperature and the amount of light shining down on them, as the tree canopy quickly blotted out the sky, leaving shadowy illumination for Jaeshan to navigate through. The path they traveled was well beaten, and Jaeshan quickly deducted that it would be hard to lose their way unless they deviated a great deal from the main trail. Jaeshan had read that the woods could be quite creepy at night, but nothing compared to the Ilex Forest situated in Johto. If memory served him correctly, he seemed to remember it saying that the trees blocked out the sun so much that it seemed like perpetual nighttime when one traveled the Ilex Forest, no matter the time of day they entered it. Also, it was speculated that the forest was haunted, but by whom or what was still unknown. Jaeshan looked up at the sunlight peeking through various gaps in the leafy ceiling above them, and chuckled to himself. Perhaps someday he'd have to venture to Johto and explore Ilex Forest for himself.

Torchic seemed to have a complete shift in attitude since entering the woods, however, as she stuck right by Jaeshan's side, and was keeping a constant lookout for anything that might sneak up on them. The feathers adorning the top of her head seemed to quiver in anticipation, and for once, she was completely silent; the only sound coming from her was the rapid fluttering of her heart, and the occasional scratching of her taloned feet on the earthy ground.

The light poked through the blinds of the small room landing on the covers of a bed that was, for a short while, hidden in darkness. As the rays of light slowly shart to shift towards the headboard, the hazel blue eyes of a young boy poked out of the sheets. Before the rays could slowly hit its target, the boy slithered back into the covers, sliding down the other side of the bed. As the boy yawned, he ran his hand through his black, blue streaked hair. Suddenly the light came on, blinding the young man. "What the...WHOA!" he yelled as he tripped back unto his bed, Grimm, his trusty Duskull at the light switch, lightly chuckling to himself in a melancholy manner. "Grimm, must you do that?" he said as he made the bed.

The rays were in full bloom now as he put on his black shirt, covering his abs, which brought out the dark purple trench coat and pants he was wearing. He grabbed the ball on the nightstand. On the top, a purple scheme accenting the small gold writing:
Love You Myuko -Mom
Placing his favorite hat on his head, the front door closing behind him, he was on his way, his Duskull following close behind.

As they started down route 101, a Zigzagoon appeared and started growling at the trainer and pokemon. "Now, now Zigzagoon. He's a friend."
A mature voice said as a figure appeared to be getting up from the tall grass. "Myuko my young friend, what brings you out here so early in the morning?" the man said.

"Just wanted to get some air, Professor." Myuko said as he was staring at the still growling Zigzagoon.

As the pokemon was growling, Grimm had appeared behind it, tapping its side. As the Zigzagoon turned, Grimm created a scary face sending the Zigzagoon scurrying towards the professor.

"Oh Zigzagoon." He said as the Professor withdrew the pokemon to its pokeball. "Well, when you get to Odale town remember to visit the pokemon center and withdraw your potions I gave you."

"Oh, I am ahead of you, Professor Birch." Myuko said as he flashed the left side of his coat, the three potions inside a big pocket. "Who knows, maybe I might meet someone new or decide to leave for something exciting."

"Well, your mother would have wanted you to be happy. Its been so long since I have seen you have fun. If you ever need anything, you know where I am....for the most part." he chuckled as he waved his arms, motioning his field work. "Take care, Myuko."

At that word, Myuko turned and with confidence, stepped through the familiar path that wound lead to Odale Town, Grimm popping in and out of vision.

The Gloom's trainer almost cringed before what would have been a devastating Peck attack. Seeing what the Wooper had done though, he gave a sigh. "Thanks bro," he said. "Gloom, Acid on the blue bird!" he commanded.

Following the rebound of the Wooper's block, the Gloom jumped in front to launch a disgusting blob of blackish-green acid from its mouth onto Ulani.

"Come on Little Guy, wake up!" Ky called out hopefully. Near the end of the Gloom's volley, the small Natu began to open its eyes, though very slightly, and to Ky's shock, Little Guy winked, then closed his eyes again. "What the... ... Oh, I get it!" Ky thought as he looked at the twin trainers. They weren't paying the slightest attention to Little Guy's condition, so they must not know of Natu's ability to shake off sleep effects. "Perfect..."

"Little Guy! Come on! WE NEED YOU!" Ky bluffed loudly, now adding a false tone of worry to his call. As expected, Little Guy did not respond and continued to feign sleep, waiting for Ky to issue the surprise attack.

As the wind slowly started to pick up, Myuko wadded through the tall grass as he headed over the last length to Odale. Although not very far, Grimm had stopped along the way. Apparently he finally realized that he was not going to go back home for a long time. "C'mon Grimm, we are almost THERE!" he said as he fell inside a hole. A rather DEEP hole. As the dust cleared, and Grimms small chuckles faded, Myuko looked at his feet to see small insects crawl on his leg. When he sprang up, the Wurmples fell back to the ground, scurrying away.

"Man, what a day. And its not even close to being over yet!" Myuko said as they entered the small but cozy city of Odale Town.

As the sun was hitting its peak in the sky, Myuko and Grimm entered the pokemon center near the entrance of the small town.

The pokemon center looked just as it did the day of the storm....and the death. Myuko pushed the memory to the back of his mind as he walked up to the counter.

"Hello. Welcome to the Pokemon Center. May I help-- Oh! Myuko. How are you?" Nurse Joy said with her smiling face beaming as if it were the sun.

"I am doing fine, Joy. I was wondering if you could heal Grimm for me before we head for Petalburg." Myuko said, taking off his hat and running a hand through his hair.

"Petalburg?" she said recalling Grimm to the custom purple pokeball, "Why are you going there?"

"Dunno. Maybe I will get into a big adventure." Myuko said as he was handed back the pokeball.

"Well I hope you stay safe." Nurse Joy said with a grin as Grimm exited the pokeball, following Myuko outside.

The woods were surprisingly quiet as the duo made their way through, occasionally jumping down a ledge to make the trip through the forest a little quicker. A large oak tree stood in the center of the forest, serving as a sort of half-way landmark, and Jaeshan bent down to pick up the baby Torchic, who was starting to look a bit tired. She nestled down in his arms, happy to be off her feet, but continued to keep her eyes sharp for anything that Jaeshan's human eyes may have missed.

After continuing on for about another half hour or so, Jaeshan decided to have a bit of a rest too, and he found a fallen log to sit down on. Reaching into his backpack, he pulled out a bit of Pokemon food, making a mental note to stock up once he reached Petalburg, as well as an apple and a bit of trail mix for himself. Torchic ate quickly, grateful for the energy boost. She seemed to have calmed down considerably since they entered the woods, and she was back to chirping happily once again. Jaeshan finished his snack, watching the young Pokemon with interest. He was quite interested to see just how tough the little chick could become, and he really needed to focus on her training some more. She was easily the least experienced Pokemon on the team, as even Bagon had come a long way since her birth at the Cherry Blossom Festival. He knew both Pokemon had a lot of potential, and neither were near the battling strength of Mightyena, Victreebel or Nidoking, for that matter. He still didn't really know how well Butterfree was doing, as she still hadn't battled since that Venusaur's Frenzy Plant attack had pierced her wing. He took the butterfly's Pokeball from his belt and tossed it gently forward, causing Butterfree to appear before him in a flash of white light. She floated gracefully a few feet from the ground, seemingly with no problems keeping airborne.

"How are you feeling?" Jaeshan asked her, to which the Pokemon responded with a gleeful chittering sound. She flapped her wings a few times and came to land beside her trainer, standing on the log next to him so that he could study the injury. The normal pattern on her wing was messed up, and would probably remain that way, but the wound had healed over fully, and looked as though it were no longer painful. "I'm glad to see you're doing well," he chuckled, resting a hand on the butterfly Pokemon's head. Torchic watched the exchange quietly, looking up at the lovely butterfly with admiration.

Keegan eyed the duck-like Pokemon as it was released onto the field, watching it intently. He was sure he'd seen that one in a book somewhere, but it's name and any information he may have read on it had slipped his mind. Far-something, he thought, looking back at the Cubone for a second before looking at the duck once more. The only thing he was sure of was that it was a flying type, but he didn't know what kind of maneuverability it had, or even if it could actually fly in the first place.

Keegan jumped a little as Kasiya decided on her first Pokemon, and the ever familiar green Crobat came screeching onto the field, flying around a few times before coming to stop in front of his trainer. She's relying on Fang? he thought nervously, remembering how erratic the Crobat's actions had always been. I sure hope she knows what she's doing... He really hated to doubt Kasiya's choice of Pokemon, but he really couldn't help it. As much as he wanted to follow Kasiya's lead and send out Artemis, mainly because he remembered how easy it had been for her to avoid the Cubone's bone-club attacks, he decided on a different course of action. Fang is easily fast enough to make the first strike, but we don't want to play copycat out there either... After a few moments of thought, he came to a decision. "Okay Althena, we're counting on you," he murmured to himself, taking the red and white Pokeball from his waist strap and enlarging it. "Let's get started!" With a flick of his wrist, the sphere landed on the ground next to him to reveal the yellow Psyduck. Althena stood with her arms dangling at her sides, and her round eyes took in the situation. Upon spotting the other duck, she waved enthusiastically, her tail wagging quite happily. Keegan just laughed and shook his head. "This is a battle, hon. You have to focus, remember?" The Psyduck glanced up at her trainer and nodded, turning back to face her opponents.

Grimm steadily floated side-to-side as he floated behind Myuko. They had been walking only a short distance but Myuko had felt winded. As they stopped for a rest, Myuko took out some seeds and munched quietly as Grimm looked on, no expression in its eyes. What's up, Grimm? Myuko said as he extended a hand. Grimm simply looked at the hand before zooming happily around it, fading in and out of sight. Myuko laughed as he stood up, carefully walking through the tall grass so as to not to step on a small, innocent pokemon.

As the small town came into play, a young trainer sprang up. "Hey, you! I challenge you you would-be trainer!"

Myuko merely raised an eyebrow as he turned away from the youngster.
"HEY! Where are you going?!
"Away from you. Grimm...."

As his name was called, the ghost pokemon suddenly appeared in front of the youngster, gazing at him with it's scarlet eye, which had become plainly visable.

"UAHHHHH!!!! MOMMY!!!" the youngster said as he ran in the route of Odale.

Myuko chuckled lightly to himself as he walked into the entrance of the city; Petalburg. Man, that was mean, even for me. I should meet up with that kid later and battle him the right way. Myuko thought to himself as he slightly lowered his head as he entered the exuberant city of Petalburg.

Hearing the random comments for Ian, Dylan looked over to find the two spectators. "Hey man, that wasn't totally our fault. And it isn't like we think we're the greatest trainers in the universe." It was true that they had only finished with 2 wins and 4 losses but they weren't as trained as they were now. "But we don't let our losses get us down."

Dylan grinned at his opponents. Since everyone was on the field and their enemies hadn't used any attacks it would be up to him to take the lead. "Okay, Cubone, use Bone Club on Psyduck!" The small 'rodent' charged forward with his Thick Club ready to smash the poor little duck.

As Myuko blinded his eyes from the falling sun, Grimm came up to his trainer and nudged him lightly. "What? You hungry?" Myuko asked the floating pokemon as he took out the Oran Berry he had been carrying. The ghost pokemon looked at it and then at the trainer with a sad glimpse in its crimson eye. "Okay, okay. Why don't we see if there are any trainers in the woods? We rested up in Odale and it was a short but steady walk. What do ya think?" Myuko said as the ghost pokemon began to chuckle lightly, flying from side to side. Some people had been staring at the ghost pokemon since their arrival; him turning and looking at the crowd made them disperse in utter fear for ghost pokemon werent that common in the city. As Myuko took off his hat, exposing his black and blue streaked hair, the duo headed towards the exit of the town and the entrance for the dark yet wonderous Petalburg Woods.
