I like the Guard, its the first army i started collecting, but i am not very good at it. I got wiped off the map about two of the three times i went to a store night. Lets just say lasguns arent very good against the power armor, but a plus was that i blew up a predator with a rocket launcher. I think a good army would be a grenadier army, all those stormtroopers.

these space marines were both, one had some heavy weapons then droped a teminator squad right near my comand squad, i dont like their assult cannons. Second one was mostly close combat, it had a land raider with the hurrican bolters, they just chewed though the squads, then it dropped the black templar marines they just mopped up the rest, i think only one ratling survived of my force of a demolisher, hellhound, armored fist squad and about 40 men. I am thinking of using the grenadier doctrine and getting some stormtroopers so boost the other squads, take them 1 to 1.

Use tons of indirect firepower, like basilisks which would work well in conjunction with the demolisher tank and with tons of morter squads. Stormtroopers are ok, but they're not really as cost effective as line troopers in my opinion. generally they're worth it for their infiltrate and deep strike abilities I find. somthing that isn't possible with the gredadiers doctrine.

-Mykal You don't always need tanks. You can do just as good with lots of guards and heavy weapons. I dropped down a over 70 guardsmen, 12 heavy weps and Command Squad and slaughtered Chaos Marines and Tyranids. However I always do love Armored Regt. Have 2 Baneblades being added into my force on the 13th of Oct.

The question is not, "Mac, why are you fielding a Hellhammer instead of a squadron of Baneblades like anybody would you sod", but instead I raise the following: "Are four sponsons with heavy flamers on a Hellhammer overkill or a nice touch for city fighting and horde burning?"
That's right, I want to know, should I slap four sponsons onto a Hellhammer or just keep it with two. This is not a point issue, so don't give me that. It's a mere 20% on the base cost of the vehicle, so no big loss.
This of course means that if the Hellhammer gets four sponsons, then the Baneblade will get extra armour plating and those little cherub laud hailers bolted to the side for extra effect.

Other than lack of IG players, why should I go IG? the wide range of possiblities that Guard has is a resaon I like though not the reason I choose guard for. I picked guard because I read and liked the fluff and went with it. Now if I could just get enough models of infantry built for a whole company id be happy

And I don't think I can field an army of Gue'vesa.
