Improvisation is a lost art.

My biggest issue with what Sigil Warden and Vintrict are suggesting is that it doesn't make any sense to dock points on someone because of a perceived issue with a tactical approach.

Vintrict's problem with what I did was that he thought that the use of a rapier versus an abnormally short spear shouldn't have worked and wasn't creative enough for it to work (it did anyway), even though my perceived lack of creativity was not used against me.

I could go around and read any fight that used hand to hand combat and I'm 100% sure I could find some tactical and/or creative inadequacy in peoples post. "You threw a jab with your rear arm, that's ******** retarded, you lose a point for tactics", but we don't do that because its a d**k move and creates an unrealistic expectation.

Don't get me wrong they both pointed out very valid things that I am going to pay attention to as far as my roleplaying goes. Sokoya called the match in KB's favor and I 100% agree with her. So that's not what my point was about.

I also agree with what Sigil Warden said about needing to know a little bit more about the use of a weapon before I try to depict it, because he is right in that it could break immersion.

I disagree though on docking me on points because 'it shouldn't have worked' and the use of that particular weapon wasn't 'creative' enough. Even though my character wasn't skilled in that weapon at all.

*rubs back of head*

I donno about that. I personally would much rather enjoy reading a roleplay of an individual who grasped the very basics of a weapon but is clumsy with it in a fashion than one who knows a certain weapon inside and out and can rattle off a dozen names for moves with said weapon and loads down a post with every subtle motion of their body.

I mean yes, I've taken fencing classes so I can handle most types of that sort of weapon. s**t, that's why I alwasy use a cutlass with Zantara. I ******** know that s**t probably as good as you know hand to hand.

I'm stroking something with that comment... I don't think I could ever know something that well at least not a physical activity. I've got too much s**t going on to put that much time into it unfortuantly.

But I regress.

And I'll agree that you could have used it in a more creative way.

But what's more important?

That you took yourself out of your comfort zone and used a weapon that basically you didn't completely understand in a fashion that shouldn't have worked but did, Which put you at a disadvantage? Which should be a good thing in most situations.

Or that you did such and that the judges weren't impressed enough by your handling of said weapon and are annoyed (in their own way) that you didn't google some s**t up before hand and really nail into KB?

It really a personal choice there, I suppose.
