"He did," Maia said. "Lori was in on it, and I bet Seamus was in the office when Dari told him about it. Lori knowing really helped me keep on schedule with classes." She smiled at him. "I'll tell Seamus to be nice to you when I see him."
She leaned over and planted a kiss on his cheek. "I'll be happy to see everyone too, but the person I'm most happy to see is right next to me."

Somehow he was unsurprised. It was nice, though, to know that so many people had been working against him to make him happy. They'd gone well beyond the call of duty to make him recognize his own stupid self. He tightened his arm to pull Maia closer for a moment.
"You're too sweet."

Maia smiled at him. "I skyped Seamus while I was away. He tried typing to me. He and Dari are second on my list." She paused and dug into her purse. She pulled out the necklace she'd made for Toby. "For you," she said. "Its supposed to keep you safe." On missions. "I made it for you."

Huh. What had Seamus tried to type? Hopefully nothing depressing. He watched Maia delve into her purse and come out with a gaudy shell necklace. He smiled, absolutely charmed, and took it before looping it over his neck. "Thank you. You still wear your sea glass?"

"I never take it off," Maia said, smiling at him. "It's special." Because he'd given it to her now more than that it was a piece of her former home. "What do you want to do while we're home?"

Toby thought a moment. What did he want to do? Cook, eat, they had already discussed that. What else? Talk?
He looked a bit ashamed but was still smiling.
"Hold you? If I can." If she'd let him.

"Why not?" Maia was smiling at him. "We could watch a movie." That night with the thunderstorm, it'd been nice. She'd definitely enjoyed that closeness. "Or just talk," She planted another kiss on his cheek.

Toby's smile grew and he looked up properly. He stole her lips for a gentle, lingering kiss and nodded.
"Sure. Whatever you want to do. I'm all yours today."

"You have to pick something. You know how hard it is for me to pick," She gave him a smile. "Almost home," She added. She recognized landmarks out Toby's window. "You'll have to help me unpack."

"Gladly," Toby said. As they pulled into the driveway he leaned forward to make sure the driver had his card number, thanked him, and then went about unloading the van. Maia hadn't brought everything, obviously. In the next few days some agents and a moving company should be returning with the rest of her things, as if Toby's house somehow needed more cookware.
The driver came back to assist, and when they were laden and heading for the door Toby gave him a wave and let them in.
Ah, God, home felt like home again. Toby put the bags he held down and gestured toward the fish tank. "They're due for a feeding if you want to do the honors."

Maia stepped inside, looking around. Home. She was home. It was like a breath of air after being under water too long. She gave Toby a smile and went to the fish tank. "You've been busy," she observed, looking at the new decorations in the tank as she fed the fish. "They look happy." They did. They had a bubbled, fake coral, live plants, a scuba diver--Toby had certainly spoiled them while she'd been away.
"Lets skip unpacking for now," she decided, going over to him and taking both of his hands. She wanted to enjoy just being together.

Toby closed the door behind them and watched her go, and when she came back he took her hands without hesitation. He didn't have to be careful any more. They could touch and kiss and hold as much as they liked, because they were... something? Mutually interested, at the very least. He leaned in for yet another kiss. Three so far. How many to come? He certainly didn't feel lonely at the moment.
"Are you hungry?"

Maia returned the kiss, and when she pulled back she was smiling at him. She gave his hands a squeeze. "A bit," She admitted. "You?" She released one of his hands and led him towards the kitchen. "Biscuits and gravy, it'll be good." She smiled at him. "I've really missed this, cooking with you."

"I could eat." He could always eat, especially something made with Maia.
"Me too. I just sort of lost interest with you gone. It hurt too much. We should probably go to the store too so we'll have stuff for the weekend." He went into the kitchen and it was like Maia had never claimed her love nor left as he began to pull out what they'd need to make their meal.
"So. Talking. Where should we start?"

Maia nodded in agreement. "It was the same way for me," She said. Cooking had been too hard; he'd been the one to teach her. "I hated leaving. I couldn't do much without thinking about you."
"Lets do that," She smiled. Shopping together was always an enjoyable time.
"Where to start..." Maia considered aloud, before looking up. She gave Toby a smile. "Let's talk about your birthday party."
