He looked up at her. He tried to stand, though the effort didn't show on his face. His legs wouldn't budge. It was as if something hand him chained to the ground. "Bet? I don't recall any bets."

- The ground soaked in blood and tears would in later seasons become the first natural growing place for Foxfire roses, identical to the type Reeve was so fond of giving out. They would glow in a soft and sad way beneath the right moon-

A small thing, like a very white, fuzzy shadow, slipped into Reeve's room and sat in the shadow of the door.
"I bet myself you wouldn't be able to get up." She held out a hand.

Seph took her hand and stood, wobbling. He put a hand on her shoulder for stability and sighed. "I guess an eighteen-hour nap wasn't enough to put me back in tip-top shape."

Reeve's room was very suddenly empty.
Nyl gave Seph a look. "No, not when you're still all torn up from the fog and then you go and use up what you do have. ...Though I agree with your reasoning on the second part."
She heard Reeve's voice, speaking to...either empty air or whoever might have been listening. But she didn't answer. Instead, she walked back toward the front door, presubamly with Seph being half-dragged along.

Instead, she walked back toward the front door, presubamly with Seph being half-dragged along. -Reeve gives way to abject misery in the clean, linen room. No Sarya, no Lyn, no...anything. Reeve's life is next to meaningless now, as he reasons. He searches for another weapon to finish the job, but to no avail- NYL!

He nodded as she began to walk. Every few steps, Seph would grunt and have to hold himself up on Nyl's shoulder. Seph, instead of hearing Reeve's voice in his head, heard Reeve's voice through his ears. "Reeve's awake."
