To say the least, Ky was quite bummed on the ride back to the Pokemon Center. His loss kept everyone quiet, including the little girl who was having so much fun with his Beedrill previously (Tracy offered her a ride back, so she was riding along with Ky). Holding Rex in his arms, he couldn't help but worry as he noticed the little croc's jaw start to swell near his teeth, obviously caused by the harsh beating his opponent's Nidoking had given him. And then there was Poe, who had lost at the cost of giving him a name, a name he could've thought of elsewhere. Ky couldn't help but feel incredibly stupid about it, but he didn't let himself get upset. What happened happened and the best he could do was to train himself either to think faster or to better prioritize his thoughts. As Ky was hanging his head in thought of this, he felt a slight tug on his shirt sleeve. Looking over at the young bug catcher girl, Ky saw that at least she was smiling.

"Your Beedrill was really cool! Thanks for letting me play with it!" she said sincerely. "When I get better, I'm gunna have three Beedrills, maybe more!" Then, as if reacting to their trainers' glee, her three Weedles poked out of her overalls' pockets, all nodding in unison. Even though Ky didn't feel like talking, he smiled and nodded, happy to see someone was enjoying their day.

Other than that brief conversation, the ride back to Goldenrod remained uneventful. After Tracy pulled up to the side of the Pokemon Center, the girl ran quickly inside, and as Tracy began locking the ATV to a nearby post, he spoke to Ky without looking. "So, even though you're kind of young, I'd like to recommend you think about becoming a Ranger some day, Ky," Tracy advised. He then turned with a strange smile, looking at Ky as if he were some kind of oddity. "For some reason, I know you didn't choke with that Xatu of yours. No one chokes after controlling their previous Pokemon as well as you did. Just thought I'd say that."

"Uh... thanks," Ky said, watching as Tracy simply walked towards the Pokemon Center's front entrance. He really had no interest in becoming a Ranger, but it was very kind of Tracy to think he was Ranger material, whatever Ranger material was. Ky was soon to follow, walking through the glass doors and up to the surprisingly empty counter. Nurse Joy frowned sadly when she saw Ky hand her the roughed-up croc, and even turn a little angry seeing him turn in his other two Pokeballs.

"It's not healthy to send an evolved Pokemon straight into battle like that," Joy scolded as she placed the Pokeballs onto the scanning tray. Her frown turned somewhat straighter as she analyzed the screen. "Well, at least Little Guy didn't take any serious damage, just two large bruises to his left wing and chest."

"It's Poe," Ky said, almost feeling like saying that would justify his actions. "His name's Poe now."

"Oh?" Nurse Joy asked, a little perplexed. "Well, I guess I'll change his data then. P-O or P-O-E?"

"P-O-E," Ky confirmed.

"Alrighty, Your Pokemon should be ready soon, but I'd let them rest for a couple of hours; especially your Xatu."

Nodding, Ky decided it was a good time for a break. In fact, he felt like he owed Poe something special, in celebration of his evolution. Walking out the door, Ky snapped his fingers with an idea. "I'll get you a TM," he said out loud. And with that, he was off walking towards downtown Goldenrod once again.

What felt like several minuets went by with the two staring out into the sea. Crenu had never kept any of him pokemon out of their pokeballs, save for Larvitar when they first left home but that soon changed. Yet here he was, no longer the naive trainer that he once was, no longer like those pathetic people that let themselves grow weak because they wasted time making friends with their pokemon...yet here he was asking his own for her opinion, though he knew his mind was already made up. Something about Snorunt just made it seem alright though, hardship recognized hardship after all so perhaps he felt a kinship of sorts with this pokemon. "Alright, so we're gonna give contests a shot. And I expect to win, as should you." Snorunt was new to the team and was probably to young to have any experience with battling. He already strong pokemon that could probably handle themselves just fine in a contest in terms of strength, but they were more use to the straight forward battle approach that was required for gym battles. They could learn to do the battle portion of contests, but he figured that raising a young pokemon like Snorunt for the contest circuit would make her a more valuable player for appeals and contest battles as well. "From what I've been told you don't battle in the first part of the contest, you just appeal to the judges and make yourself look good. You don't need to all that strong to win that part if you use your moves right, show me what you can do." Snorunt nodded and jumped down from the top of his head onto the deck and waited instructions. "I think Riza said you knew Powder Snow, Leer, Double Team, and Disable. Leer isn't very impressive, but disable should go over well since your species doesn't normally learn it. Hmm, give me a Powder Snow." With no dex and no further information about Snorunt, Crenu only had those four attack to go on. He had no idea what she'd be learning later on as she grew stronger, he'd have to do more research on Snorunt if he hoped to make good use of her. Meanwhile, Snorunt was happy to carry out her order, taking a deep breath before exhaling a chilly gust of snow at her blond trainer. Crenu was taken by surprise, expectation her to aim it elsewhere, and was taken aback by the sudden cold blast. It wasn't overwhelming, but it was still pretty cold and annoyed him a bit. When the gust had past, Crenu brushed the snow off of his coat but retained his expression less face. "At least it looks nice. Let's make it look better."

Keegan only laughed as she took shots at his abilities to dress himself yet again, and shrugged. "I'll just rent a tux or something," he said with a shrug. "Lilycove is known for its shopping district so you should be able to find something..." Hot. Sexy. Smokin'! No... "appropriate as well." Again he found himself thinking back to yesterday, with Riza standing there in the doorway, towel wrapped haphazardly around her body, and he grinned a little, certain that he'd enjoy whatever outfit she chose to wear for this evening. "I'm looking forward to it too, actually."

The two had started to walk towards the docks as they talked, though now that he actually was going through with this and was effectively taking Riza to the ball, formal date or not, he couldn't help but feel a bit of guilt starting to creep into his gut. He frowned at this, pulling his lighter out of his pocket and just toying with it. Why should he feel guilty? He wasn't the one playing games with other people's hearts and making them believe things that weren't true. I'm such a fool, he thought dejectedly, now lighting up another cigarette. She must have had a good laugh from it though. It was so easy... she played me like a goddamned violin. He closed his eyes and sighed, smoke billowing out around him. I hope you're happy with your crazy new boyfriend, he thought as the harbor came into view. Just the salty sting of the ocean breeze was enough to turn his stomach. He looked over at Riza and smiled, ignoring the stabbing pang of guilt he felt. "Here we are."
=====
"I would hope so," Miharu said calmly, returning the look Blanca was giving her. She nodded respectfully as the Granbull was recalled. It had been the first time she'd ever seen one in person other than just in books, though it had been much larger than she'd imagined it to be (though that might have only been because of her small stature). Aska seemed to be happy about getting the first win and flew around to land in front of her trainer, cooing happily. "Great job, Aska," Miharu said with a quick nod. "But we're not done yet, here's your next opponent." The Pidgeotto chirped and gave her wings a few quick flaps and was airborne once more. Miharu had never heard of a Linoone before, and though she very much wanted to scan the strange, striped Pokemon she knew she didn't have time.

That's a Thunderbolt! Miharu thought fearfully, watching the bolt streak through the air. "Fly through it," she commanded finally. "Aerial Ace again!" The Linoone was obviously not of the electric variety which would be their only saving grace against the Thunderbolt.

Aska pulled her wings in close to her body and sped towards the oncoming electricity, crying out as she felt the painful tingling sensation all over her body. A streak of white light trailed behind her as she extended her claws and prepared to slash into the Linoone.

The Linoone smirked as the speedy bird approached him. This one looked like it had some agility, and Linoone did love some competition. Let's tango, she thought to herself, waiting until the bird came very, very close before springing away. However, it seemed she had somewhat underestimated Aska's speed, and so was clipped to the hind-leg. Ouch! Sharp claws.

"Quick, while you're close, Headbutt, then clear out!" Blanca commanded, pointing at the bird. If there was anything the Linoone was good at, it was being quick; her battle style was hit and run. It had taken Blanca a while to familiarize with this foreign Pokemon -- she had obtained it over a trade -- but she had figured that battle strategy was the way to go with the Rush Pokemon, for it didn't have Granbull's tolerance for hurt.

M.A. put her bag in the counter, beginning to fish through it for something she could sell, something Pokemon-related... "Ahah! A Revive," M.A. said, pulling a brand-new little patch out.

"Ah, perfect. I can give you $750 for that, and then you'll have $150 to spare," the cashier said cheerfully, observing the returned product for any defects. When he couldn't find any, he bagged the two TMs and handed them over across the counter to an anticipation-filled M.A. Ooooh, she wanted to use 'em right away!

"I wanna use 'em right away," she reiterated out loud for Saebum, who couldn't read her mind like we do. "Let's go, let's go," she cheered like an idiot, taking huge strides toward the elevator and stepping in. Being the kind sister she was, she jabbed at the 'close door' option, causing Sae to rush over and jam his body into the door to stop it. "Thanks a lot," he said sarcastically, lightly flicking her nose. She only giggled, and Sae sighed, losing the battle already.

Once outside, they took a seat on a public bench. M.A. released Daemyn moments later with a big grin, finding this all new and exciting. "We're gunna teach you some moves!" M.A. told her favorite canine, who only panted with a slight wolfish grin; her happiness was contagious, and the gruff dog liked smiles when it was on his girl.

Both Daemyn and M.A. had their imaginations running now. Daemyn thought Saebum might try to wrestle him or something; oh ho ho, would he like to tear that annoying guy a new one. Mary-Anne, meanwhile, wondered how those little discs worked; was Sae gonna pull out some big computerized machine and Daemyn go in and like, grow a solar cannon on his back or something?! The thought actually alarmed her, since she didn't think the Houndoom would be more huggable with a rocket launcher strapped to him. "Will it make him look different on the outside?"

"/Hell/ no. Here, all you gotta do is press the disc to his forehead, and that's all."

She did, first with the Iron Tail TM she had gotten a day or two back. It glowed, and Daemyn's eyes fogged over for a moment, but then that was it. "That's it?" M.A. reiterated again.

"Should be. Have yer Houndoom use Iron Tail now, on that rock over there."

She did, was astonished to see the Houndoom crush the rock easily with his glowing, whip-like tail. He definitely couldn't do that before. Daemyn himself looked rather satisfied with himself. His eyes seemed eager, and M.A. laughed. "I'll spoil you this way, but I've got two more for you! Don't tell Tora and Ulani, though, they'd be jealous."

Daemyn nodded, but mentally gloated. Oh ho ho, he was the only one getting special treatment this time! A few minutes later and he had two more attacks under his arsenal; he particularly liked that destructive one, although Sae had to practically jump on him and clamp his mouth shut before he blew out a building. He was not about to pay for damages with the money they were all running low on!

Dakra woke up. He looked at Sherlock, fast asleep at his side. Had it all been a dream...? The girl, the bandits...all of it. Well, it was time to get up, dream or not. Dakra picked Sherlock up, and walked out the Pkmn Center.
"Pidgey, Pid-Pid" Dakra turned around to see the Pidgey with an eyepatch.
"Hi there, little guy." The pidgey rocked nervously. "You want to train with Sherlock, don't you." It nodded.
"Well, lets go!!!"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 08, 2009 7:32 am

Sherlock gulped. The Pidgey wanted a rematch. It came full force at him.
"Dodge it Sherlock!" Easier said than done, as Pidgey's wing clipped his eye.
"OUCH!" Sherlock cried. He rubbed his eye, vision impared. "Looks like I'm going to win. Last time was a fluke." Pidgey taughted, hopping on one foot.
"Sherlock, tackle it!" Sherlock ran at the Pidgey, his vision still blurry. Because of this, he tripped. Sherlock's back erupted in flame, and was surprised to find himself on the Pidgey.
"That was cool! I don't think its a real attack, but lets call it...Fireball!" Dakra pick both of them up, as Pidgey had fainted from the attack.
"How...could I lose..." Pidgey grumbled. Sherlock smiled and did a little dance in Dakra's arms.
"I did it!!!"

Riza simply smiled to herself as the two walked along, oblivious to the red head's inner turmoil. She was still a little stuck on the fact that he'd suddenly sprung this whole thing on her and even more so that she'd agreed to it. 'Its so weird,' she thought, shaking her head slightly. 'he seemed to be pretty close with that girl yesterday, you would think he'd want to bring her to something like that.' A small part of her couldn't help but not care why the two were no longer joined at the hip but at the same time she really wanted to know why. She looked around as they arrived at their destination, seeing a decent amount of people congregating around one particular area. Nodding to Keegan, Riza made their way over to them, quickly discovering that many of them were also headed to Lilycove. "I guess we'd better get our passes then," she said, getting in line to do just that.

Once her ticket was bought she turned to look at the red haired boy. "So why do you want to bring me to this soiree tonight?" she asked finally, trying to keep the question sounding casual. "What happened to your blonde little tag-along?" She was pretending to be occupied by the departure time on her ticket but she couldn't help but steal a few glances at him, more curious of his reaction than the actual answer itself.
PostPosted: Sun Mar 08, 2009 9:22 pm

There was no sense in arguing with that logic so Keegan lined up to buy his ticket as well. He'd barely pocketed his wallet when Riza asked the question he somehow knew would come up eventually, though that didn't make him any more prepared for it and he nearly sucked the remainder of his cigarette right into his mouth. He coughed a little and tossed it to the ground, stomping on it before he looked up at Riza. "Well," he started, slipping his hands into his coat pockets. "How do I put this lightly...? Well, let's just say that everything I thought she was, was a lie. Everything... she..." he trailed off slowly, feeling a troubling mix of devastation and pure, unbridled fury building up inside of him. This time, though, he managed to keep his anger in check and he took a deep, yet slightly shaky breath and looked back at his raven-haired companion, feeling calmer. Somehow, when he thought of all the anger he felt towards her, the guilt he had about being with Riza, and liking her, and everything that had happened with her yesterday, was much easier to manage. It seemed almost justified now that he really thought about it, and he looked around as a tone sounded, signaling that it was time to board. "Great," the redhead mumbled, motioning towards Riza. "After you."
=====
With every passing round Miharu was finding herself to be more and more intrigued by the strange yet speedy Linoone, but that didn't mean she was going to let her curiosity stop her from defeating it. Aska screeched indignantly from the quick hit, very much wanting to extract her revenge on the Rush Pokemon.

Miharu, meanwhile felt the same way, watching the striped attacker dart away. "Quick Attack," she commanded quickly. The Pidgeotto let out a loud cry and zipped forward, a streak of bright white light trailing behind her as she chased after the Linoone, once again ready to sink her claws into it.

The midnight sky of Vermillion was dark and vast, stretching on seemingly forever as Karen stood outside the Saffron Hospital with her son's bag in hand. She held her breath in anticipation, the gravity of the situation still hadn't hit her yet. Was her son really in a mental hospital? Did he really snap and attack his closest friends? Was he really involved in that catastrophe those years ago? To her, none of that mattered now. All that mattered was her baby was locked up unjustly. She still didn't know his side of the story, but her instincts told, no, practically screamed that it was a simple misunderstanding, an accident. Mrs. Kyoka drew in a sharp breath, her fist tightening around the strap, particularly Proton's Pokeball. In a flash of light the Magneton was released, eying the hospital intently.

"Proton," Karen began, assembling a piece of machinery as she spoke. It was in fact the same one she had shown Mike back home. "If you could please do something about their security that would be very helpful. Only the cameras though, we don't need to be shutting off anyone's life support." With a robotic hum the Magneton's magnets began to shake, loosing a high pitched ringing sound. The lights on the east wall flickered slightly before returning to normal. From inside rose a slight chatter, most likely security or some of the other paranoids. Karen finished tweaking her invention, pressing the large red button on the top. Proton was drawn to the machine and locked in place as Karen took aim. The difference in polarity between the machine and the Pokemon itself made the device almost weightless, so even someone as skinny as Mrs. Kyoka could wield it. "Now for a minor distraction." Karen took aim at the cell next to her son's and pulled the trigger. In a blinding flash of light the Magneton was send out like a top, slicing through the bars before returning to the device with the press of a button. Karen stumbled back as Proton was locked back in, and looked at her recent renovation. It wasn't enough for the person to escape, but they'd sure as hell try, and that would buy her some time. "Alright baby," Karen said into her transmitter. "Now I need you to do a little work fo-" her request was cut off by roaring maniacal laughter, Karen's eyes widening when she saw smoke pour out from her son's cell, followed by an eruption of flames. "Honey!" she cried, taking aim once more, turning up a few dials before sending Proton out once again, this time to free her son.

---

Mike looked up as the lights began to flicker. "Must be some power issue." he said to himself, but talk between the guards outside provided more definite answer. He pressed himself against the wall and listened in as the men outside yelled to each other.

"What's going on?!"
"I don't know, but the cameras on the east side! We're initiating a lockdown of this section!"

It seems our mother is here... Milo said with a sadistic tone.
"So what do we do?" Mike asked, his body beginning to shake in fear. His mind began to race in fright. "What if this doesn't work? What if they catch mom and throw her in prison, or she gets hurt?!" His breathing once again became hurried and frantic as he struggled inside his jacket. Among all the stresses there was a slight feeling of relief inside the boy. It was almost calming, like a much needed nap after a hard day's worth of training. "What-what's going on?" the boy said weakly, his vision beginning to fade.
Don't worry... Milo said in a calming manner, his false sincerity unable to mask the sinister undertone in his voice. I'll take care of everything from here on. Mike had no way to fight him off this time. He was tired, beaten, and heavily sedated. No matter how terrified of Milo he was, he just didn't have the strength to resist anymore.
Just...don't kill anyone......please... he trailed off before fading away.
"Wouldn't dream of it." Milo replied, grinning evilly. He stood up and cracked his neck, fidgeting around in his confines a bit. "We're going to have to do something about this." he said to himself, looking through the barred window of his cell. No one was watching. With a bit of a strain, Milo activated his gloves. This was done by rapidly pressing a button located on the side of the pointer finger like a primer for a grill. This would ready the gloves for the spark, which could be done by rubbing any of the fingers together fast enough, the sides being laced with material similar to flint or the stuff on matchboxes. Milo shifted his hands inside the jacket so they were facing out and ignited the gloves. It burned his stomach as the gloves turned on, but he didn't care. In fact, it felt kind of good. The flames chewed through the coat like a hungry dog, and with a few strong pulls and a well placed laugh, Milo burst from his confinement in a shower of flames. "Hahahaha!" he cackled, smiling as a slight breeze from the open barred window tickled his newly liberated arms. "Much better!" he cried, turning his gaze to his door, which began to shake as the guards began to unlock it, now aware of Milo's little escape act. "I don't think so!" Lifting his hand up, the boy let loose a stream of flames that covered the wall surrounding the door. His smile intensified as he watched the flames crackle and waver in their typical manner. "Ha-ha-ha-ha! I must have more! MORE! HAHAHA!" The guards looked in horror as Milo let loose a crazed cackle and began to cover the rest of the room in a wave of scarlet flames. His arms fell lazily to the sides as he let out a crazed, pleasurable high pitched laugh. "IIIEEEEH-HAHAHAHAHA!" he roared, unphased as the flames threatened to swallow him up. "So much chaos! So much beautiful destruction!" he sang, running up to the door and pressing his face against the bars, a sick grin across his face. He grabbed onto the bars, the flames licking his face and singeing the tips of his hair. Then there was a loud crashing noise as a section of the wall of his cell came crashing down. "It's been a pleasure." Milo said tauntingly as he loosened his grip on the door and walked victoriously out into the open Vermillion landscape, the cool air providing some relief to his partially burned face.

Surprisingly, Goldenrod City wasn't nearly as hard to navigate as Ky had originally thought. Sure, the sidewalks and streets were just as jam-packed as they had been last night, but one thing Ky hadn't noticed then was that there were plenty of signs hanging off of buildings pointing the directions to helpful districts of interest. For Ky, that was Goldenrod's famous MegaMart, which had more than enough signs showing him the way. Heck, even if he wasn't paying attention, he could've just let the flow of trainers guide his way. A passing thought reminded him of the tournament Tracy had mentioned this morning, and though he had wished he had the chance to register, he had had quite a handful in its place.

Walking into the MegaMart, Ky checked the nearby directory to find his way to the correct floor. Nodding, Ky saw he needed to be on the fifth floor, and so headed to the nearest elevator. He met three other trainers who were also stepping into the elevator, one of which gave a friendly congratulations to the Hive Badge Ky still had on his backpack strap. They were all taller, older looking male trainers, with the other trainers siding a glimpse of Ky's badge as well. Ky simply smiled humbly, reaching up to press the #5 button.

As the elevator made its way up, it stopped only once before Ky's floor. "Third Floor: Battle Connection; For Victory Seekers!" came a cheery automatrd voice. All three trainers left then, leaving Ky to travel alone to the top floor. "Fifth Floor: TM Corner; Customize Your Pokemon!" came the voice again, followed by the smooth opening of the elevator's doors. Walking out, Ky smiled as he saw the robust collection of TMs lining the walls. Unlike a normal TM shop though, there was also a large selection of extra material such as trainer magazines and guides. Figuring he was in no rush with his Pokemon recovering at the Pokemon Center, Ky grabbed the first magazine that caught his eye, simply titled in big red letters "TM." On the front, there was a picture of what looked to be some kind of Pokemon expert, a professor even, followed by a subtitle for what looked to be the main article, "Secrets of Sinnoh: An Awaiting Adventure?" Looking on to the Table of Contents, Ky could see that much of the issue was focused on "Sinnoh this..." and "Sinnoh that..." but to his eventual relief, his eyes spotted what he was looking for: "TM Trainer Tips: For both the New and Veteran Trainer." Knowing it would be rude to read without paying, Ky quickly went up to the payment desk.

"That'll be $100, please," said the kind cashier with a smile on his face. Pulling his backpack around from his back, Ky unzipped the front pocket, fishing through his makeshift wallet to grab a $100 bill, handing it to the man. Taking it, the cashier quickly entered in the amount, followed by a noticeable "cha-ching," and with a quick flick of his wrist, ripped Ky's receipt from the printer, which he then placed in Ky's waiting hand. "Thank you. Let me know if you need help finding anything," he offered. Nodding, Ky walked back to a set of chairs near one of the vending machines, sat down, and began reading.

For once, Ky was able to finally enjoy having some spare time to himself. His eyes were locked to the various tips and strategies given by the magazine, and along with looking for TMs to shop for, Ky couldn't help but shop for Pokemon as well. Not everything was covered of course, but just seeing glimpses of Pokemon from the Kanto and Hoenn regions made Ky excited. He was wondering if he'd try to get something from Hoenn sometime after the party. So, hours passed with Ky flipping through the pages. To his luck, Xatu happened to be given its own section.

"To fully unlock the power of this often-overlooked psychic fighter, a Xatu trainer should highly consider investing in a Psychic TM. It is true that this Pokemon eventually learns this move on its own, but it is also known to take an incredible amount of time and training to do so... One may also argue that Future Sight is worth waiting for as opposed to wasting one's money on Psychic, due to the fact that Xatu learn this move much more naturally than the latter. But, Psychic has always been found to be the favorite choice among Psychic attacks for trainers... In comparison to Future Sight, its pros are both in its speed and its power, which are both fundamental attributes to a successful attack... So in the end, it's a matter of opinion. If there seems to be another choice that a trainer would rather spend his money on, either to cover up a type-weakness for the Xatu (see October's issue), or to buff up another member of its team, it may be worth simply waiting for Future Sight to come into play. But, if the trainer is looking for a quick upgrade or simply has money in surplus, Psychic is a must-buy for any Xatu owner." - Philip Rosario, M.S. Biology

Convinced, Ky shut the magazine and instantly walked over to the shelf to find the pink-hued disk. "I'd like to buy Psychic please," Ky said as soon as he found the cashier who at that moment was helping out a young girl trainer. "Be with you in a moment," the man said to Ky, working to unlock the glass window holding the girl's request. Meanwhile, Ky grinned in a childish manner as he imagined Poe tossing Crenu's Larvitar like a rag doll. "Finally I'll have a range advantage," Ky thought to himself. The clerk soon made his way over to Ky's position, working in the same manner to retrieve his request. The girl who was waiting simply smiled at Ky. She looked to be older, probably even older than M.A. She wore a blue, cold-weather vest with a white t-shirt underneath, with regular jeans and long blond hair wrapped neatly into a braided ponytail. The five Pokeballs lining her belt were enough to show she was an experienced trainer. "Psychic huh? What kinda Pokemon do you have?" she asked, her green eyes showing the normal sparkle of curiosity.

Happy to have someone to talk to, Ky answered with a returning smile. "A Xatu. He just evolved today," Ky said proudly.

"Oh really? That's so cool! Wish I had Pokemon that could evolve," the girl said with a giggle. "For some reason my team is full of non-evolvers: Tauros, Aipom, Kecleon... Oh wait! I shouldn't be telling you my team!" she said, laughing even more in embarrassment. "Ugg, I gotta stop doing that!" After smacking her forehead with her palm, she looked at Ky with a more competitive gaze. "So what do you say? Wanna battle after this? My name's Ruth."

Clearing his throat, the clerk caught both trainers attention by waving their merchandise in his hands. Not wanting to be rude, both Ky and Ruth walked over to the desk, Ruth paying first, then Ky. After stashing the TM neatly in his backpack, Ky could only look up with a frown. "Sorry, I already battled today and my Pokemon need to rest. My name's Ky though. It's nice to meetcha."

Frowning in light disappointment, Ruth sighed. "All right then. You seemed like a fun person to battle with too... I'd ask if you were free tomorrow, but I'm heading out to Slateport first thing in the morning."

It just dawned on Ky that he had forgotten to get his own ticket to Hoenn. "That's cool. I'm gunna head there too. If I see you there, we can duke it out then!" Ky said with a reassuring smile.

Nodding, the girl stuck out her hand in a mock, business-like style. "It's a deal then!" Liking her attitude, Ky smiled and straightened up with an equally mocking serious face. "Deal!" he closed.

On the same page, both of them headed out towards the elevator. On the way, Ky was shocked when he looked at a nearby wall clock. Nearly four hours had passed since he left the PokeCenter! Not only that, but on their way down, his stomach rumbled out loud as if it had just noticed the time too.
Ruth laughed. "Aww... Hey! Have you had a burger from the Burger Barn yet?"

Confused, Ky could only shake his head. This girl must've been a resident of Goldenrod. "Oh! You have to have a burger from there! They're to die for! Come on, I'll show you! My treat!" she said, taking his hand and practically yanking him out of the MegaMart. Blushing, Ky could only go along with it, wondering why people kept treating him like a kid on first impression. Oh well, it was nice to have a sudden change of atmosphere in the city, especially after having dealt with those Rocket bullies. Plus, it was a free meal. How could he complain?

One thing was certain; Ruth was not one to exaggerate. The burger Ky ended up ordering was absolutely delicious. If he had been any kind of food connoisseur, he'd have been in tears. Strangely enough, he hadn't even gotten one with meat, for reasons quickly acquired by Ruth's reasoning after she ordered what smelled like a delicious veggie-burger.

"Ya know, it's kinda hard to explain why I've gone vegetarian. It's just been that way since I caught my Tauros. Just seems wrong to eat them afterward," she had said with a laugh and a sigh.

Though Ky wasn't particularly interested in carrying on the topic, he felt it was respectful to do the same, and thankfully he didn't seem to be missing out. Who knew a tofu-burger would end up tasting so good? The two of them continued to eat in glee, offering more than once their compliments to the chef (they picked to sit up front on the stools near the kitchen rather than the normal tables in the restaurant). Being the kid he was, Ky couldn't finish his burger entirely, but it was of no loss since he was positively stuffed. As promised, Ruth paid for the both of them, for which Ky thanked her graciously.

Exiting the restaurant, it was nearly impossible to tell the time of day where they were since the streets were so bright, but looking up, Ky could tell from the dark-blue color of the sky that it was getting late.
"That was fun Ky!" Ruth said with an almost unbelievable amount of cheeriness. Ky smirked. She was acting like they had just been at an amusement park for most of the day. Nodding, Ky admitted he had fun too. It was nice to take a break from training for a while. He was going to have a big day ahead of him, and to end it like this was close to perfect. "Well, I'm off back to my house. Gotta get ready for tomorrow," she added. "Need help getting back to the Pokemon Center?"

Ky shook his head. "Thanks again," Ky said.

"No problem," the girl winked. "Let's just say you owe me a battle at the beach, okay?"

Ky nodded and mimicked his previous response at the MegaMart. "Deal!" he said with a straight face.

Laughing, Ruth waved as she walked away. "Take care now!"

Ky waved back, turning to walk in the direction of the Pokemon Center. On the way back, Ky grew excited as he thought of the beach party. Crenu said he'd meet him there and that was going to be a good test of Xatu's new abilities. He was also hoping he'd see M.A. there as well since he missed her after her sudden departure. Also, it was hard not to notice the side stories the magazine had been spouting on about, so he read a little into one of the guests that was going to be at the beach party. Professor Rowan was his name, and according to the article, he was going to give a small presentation to show off the Sinnoh region in an effort to lure trainers, both with a promise to show some pictures of new Pokemon, and an invitation to earn badges from their collection of gyms. "So many gyms," Ky thought to himself. How long would it take him to collect the necessary eight just to enter the Johto League Tournament? He couldn't even guess. All he knew was in order for that to happen as soon as possible, he couldn't afford to have any distractions from here on out. In thought of that, Ky laughed to himself, "Like anything special is gunna happen to me any time soon."

After her little 'chat' with Mrs Kyoka, Kasiya had wandered around somewhat aimlessly for a while, though in actuality she really was just scoping everything out a little. Soon she'd discovered the security kiosk, several nurses' stations and had familiarized herself with the various exits, though the security area had been the area of most interest. She'd managed to eavesdrop a little from the doorway, pretty much in the same manner she had a little earlier with Karen and the doctor. She figured from the number of voices she could discern that there were only three guards in there currently, though she didn't know for sure how many were out on patrol or off on a coffee break or whatever.

"You seen that Kyoka kid yet?" one of the guards was asking.

"Not yet," replied a second, pausing between bites of what Kasiya assumed to be a doughnut or something similar.

"Kid's completely bonkers," a third, gruff voice spoke up. "I heard it took five orderlies just to strap him down in that straitjacket." The group shared a laugh at that comment, and Kasiya closed her eyes and kept quiet, not wanting to give herself away. Not that a seemingly-harmless girl and her Persian would be overly suspicious, but even still, she did not want to take chances. The guards' conversation then turned to the discussion of the nurses on staff, most of which made Kasiya go red in the face from embarrassment. She'd never been happier to hear the static crackle through their radios with the orders for them to get to the mental wing, and fast. Kasiya quietly released Ariel and issued a quiet command, watching with amusement as the Vaporeon iced the floor with a quick Ice Beam, and then the trio backed up around the corner, three pairs of eyes watching as hilarity ensued.

It was just like out of a cartoon. The first guard, still chuckling a little from their previous discussion stepped through the door and immediately lost traction, rapidly sliding right into the adjacent wall. The second guard had started to laugh at his colleague only to end up with the same fate, though after plowing into the wall he landed on top of guard #1, the two flailing helplessly on the icy floor. "What's wrong with you two?" came the voice of #3, or Mr Doughnut, as noted by the leftover powdered sugar on his uniform. He seemed to wise up to the situation, but only after he slip-slided around on the floor for a few seconds before falling flat on his rear, cup of steaming coffee sloshing all over his pant legs. After seeing this, Kasiya couldn't help but laugh at the site of them, though this alerted them to her presence. Uh oh, the girl thought, eyes going wide as the three scrambled to their feet, each shouting at her. At least that's three less security guards Mike and and his mom have to worry about, the girl thought, recalling Ariel back into her Pokeball as she bolted down the hall, Seto already way ahead of her.

Jaeshan could only smile a little as the ferry began to move forward. He'd always loved the ocean and boating in general, as it was one of the pastimes he could actually do with his father where they both agreed on everything. His parents actually owned a lake house near Lilycove City, though none of the family hadn't been there since just after the disasters two or so years ago. The house itself hadn't suffered much damage though the state Lilycove had been left in was enough reason for Mr Devereaux to keep his wife and only son away from there. Jaeshan fumbled around in his backpack and discovered that he indeed still had the spare key for the place, and he wondered if his Hoenn travels would ever take him back to his summer home. He'd always wished that they lived in Lilycove and not Littleroot, as the latter was such a dull and boring place for a boy to grow up.

Butterfree, meanwhile seemed to be enjoying the ride as much as her trainer was, and she rested peacefully on the railing looking over the port side of the ferry, the powdery scales of her wings glimmering in the sunlight. Jaeshan always thought Butterfree looked very radiant, and the bright sunshine only helped to magnify that. It didn't seem like the ride to Dewford would take very long as they were making great time and already Slateport had long faded from the horizon, and Jaeshan couldn't help but wonder if the port city would take a dive in their tourism industry, and how long such a slump would last.

"You sure were gone for a while," greeted Nurse Joy as Ky walked up next in line to the counter. The Pokemon Center was once again busy with the coming and going of trainers, though it was mainly the coming since a lot of trainers looked to be asleep on the couches and in sleeping bags on the floor. Seeing that all of the cushioned resting spots were taken, Ky was happy that he had some blankets in his backpack, but was not looking forward to sleeping directly on the carpeted section of the lounge.

"Yeah, I was reading," Ky explained. "Picked up a TM to teach Poe and found a magazine. Went to eat too." Nodding with a little bit of a yawn, she went back to a nearby shelf to pick up two Pokeballs, and then poked her head through the door behind the counter.

"Rex, Ky's here," she called out. Since Rex was short, Ky couldn't see him until Nurse Joy picked him off the ground, placing him on the counter with Sting and Poe. Not surprisingly, Rex looked angry. For what reason, Ky could only guess that either he didn't like being defeated, or he didn't like being left at the Pokemon Center by himself. Either way, Ky simply tilted his head with a frown as a sign of apology, which Rex just growled at. "You guys play nice now," Nurse Joy said, cluing Ky to move out of the way so she could continue servicing the people behind her.

Picking up the two balls and Rex, Ky made his way over to the lounge, quickly finding one of the leftover ground spots to spend the night. Pulling out two thin blankets and an extra pair of clothing for a pillow, Ky made up his make-shift bed using one blanket. Then, taking out his sweatshirt he used it to make a soft spot on the ground and then with the blanket made another smaller, make-shift bed. "Sorry buddy, that's the best I can do for you. You can go back to Nurse Joy if you want something better." Rex snorted in disapproval, but figured he'd try the bed out anyway. After wiggling around a bit, he seemed to have liked it, since he gave a relaxed yawn and closed his eyes to rest.

"All right, now I need Poe. Come out buddy," Ky called, rolling Poe's ball slightly for him to break out. The psychic bird popped out in a shroud of energy, soon fading away to reveal Poe, staring ever so intently straight forward with little to no movement. Sighing at his Pokemon, Ky rustled through his backpack to find where he kept the TM he just bought. Finding the pink disc, Ky took it out and waved it in front of Poe like a treat to a hungry dog. "Got something for ya buddy; I'm gunna teach you how to use Psychic with this," Ky teased. Poe's head turned once to see what Ky was talking about, then turned back to stare off again, very much indifferent. Ky sighed, placing the disc on his Xatu's head. The disc went bright for a moment, fading in color, then crumbling quickly into a fine dust. "Why do you have to make things so boring, Poe?" Again, with no response, Ky simply sat down cross-legged, staring up at Poe in simple fascination with his Pokemon's constantly mild nature. A thought then hit Ky randomly, realizing that he had completely forgotten about the TM Bugsy had given him; Giga Drain. If Poe could learn that, he wouldn't have as much trouble as he did in his last match, pitted up against a ground or rock Pokemon. Gaining a little bit of added excitement, Ky tore out the magazine, quickly turning to the list of Xatu's learnable TMs. There it was: Giga Drain. Throwing out all sorts of random necessities, Ky eventually found Bugsy's prize as well, a greenish disc labeled "TM 19." Once again, Ky placed the disc on Poe's head, waiting for it to once again react and dissolve. And with that it was done.

Yawning a bit, Ky found little much to do but recall Poe and read a little more from his magazine. The minutes passed and eventually the lights grew dim for the sake of all the trainers staying the night. Before falling asleep himself, Ky tucked his little Totodile in as it snored, noticing that the orange scales on his back looked a bit larger than normal. Ky figured he was just being sleepy-headed though; he knew Rex was still practically a baby, so there wasn't any reason to think he was close to evolving. Trying to be as comfortable as possible and praying he wouldn't wake up with too many sore joints, Ky eventually drifted off to sleep.

The wind playfully tossed Sasha's bright pink hair around as she coasted down Cycling Road. She had to slow down on several occasions so Lightbulb could catch up and to appease the terrified Omelette, who buried herself in her trainer's shirt in vain attempt to ward off Sasha's high speed temerity. "Don't worry Omelette." the girl said as she gently stroked the protrusion in her shirt. If the Azurill could talk, she'd be screaming for her trainer to keep both her hands on the handlebars. Sasha only smiled and continued to breeze down the path. "Whatever doesn't kill ya makes you stronger, je suppose." She'd be fine.

Ten cruisin' minutes later Sasha and company arrived at the bottom of the hill. By then Omelette had finished hyperventilating and calmed down a bit, but she opted to remain in the comforts of Sasha's shirt; it was warm there. The pink haired girl pedaled down the short road sandwiched by the sea, slowing down occasionally to stare out to the horizon. The tranquil ocean would have been beautiful if it weren't so boring. "I wanna go windsurfing." Sasha grumbled, eying the peaceful water angrily. But even if she had Lightbulb make the waters toss and turn like an angry insomniac she'd still have to somehow materialize a board out of no where. Sasha regrettably abandoned the idea. She'd have to scope out Fuschia for a board shop after snagging herself a Fearow. "I've been meaning to upgrade to a freestyle board for so long, but I just keep putting it off. Je tiens je n'étais pas si paresseux." she mumbled to herself, frowning once again. But as we know Sasha isn't the kind of person to stay angry or sad for more than a few minutes, so by the time the next tiny wave made its way to the shore so did a smile to the cheerful girl.

Sasha recalled Lightbulb when she reached the lookout station. Even if she was enjoying the swim, after that intense battle she needed to take a break. The girl folded up her bike and passed through the building quickly, eager to start looking for her next Pokemon capture. To the right of the door stood the fabled tall grass of Route 18, home of wild Pokemon galore. This place had always been known for its surplus of Spearow, so Sasha figured that if she got lucky there might be an alpha Fearow flying around. Not wanting for the little cutie to get lost she recalled Omelette. "She probably wouldn't like the grass anyway." she mused.

With an uplifting roar Sasha bum rushed into the tall grass.
