Nyl mentally cursed herself for not thinking to have some kind of weapon of her own. A grin spread across her face, and she held out one hand. Her flute lifted from the dojo steps and landed on her open palm. Spinning it, she used it to deflect the fog-weapons.

It wasn't flanking. That meant it was following basic AI structure. "Nyl, whoever performed this is not controlling it right now. Otherwise it would be trying to surround us. Right now, it's just waving toward us." He took a deep breath, performed three handseals, and exhaled , blowing a fireball the size of a small garage into the oncoming fog.

"So someone was controlling it the other night?" Nyl shot off her own fireball, though it was only about head-sized.

Seph nodded. "That would seem the only explaination for it's flip-flopping. One attack it'll be a strategic genius, the next it's a brute." Seph's vision scanned. He had perfect vision for a little over one-hundred meters. If there was any form of Anchor standing out, he'd catch sight of it.
"Bad news, though. I don't see anything that would anchor the fog here anywhere nearby." Almost caught offguard, Seph rolled to his right, dodging three incoming shuriken.

"Could they put an anchor underground, or up high somewhere?" Nyl heard another kunai bounce off her flute. It better not be dented!
She turned to face the other side of the fog, concentrating on a larger ball of fire. This one was nearly as big as she was, but didn't travel very far.

Seph blinked. "Yes, actually. I didn't think of that. Hunter! We could use your firepower. We're going into the forest, but be sure -not- to touch the fog. It can turn into whatever it wants." He looked back at Nyl, nodding his head in the direction of the forest. "Found it."

"Okay. Let's go." Nyl flinched as a shuriken tore across her forearm, but she didn't acknowledge it otherwise. "Where is it?"

"Er.. Sorry, Hunter." He caught a kunai aimed directly at his forehead. "Yes. Follow us into the forest. Or send a clone, but we could definately use some help." His eyes fell on Nyl though there were no pupils within the eyeballs. "About seventy meters," he pointed, "that way. And about-" He swore and sidestepped another kunai. "Six feet underground."

* Hunter flipped foreward over the railing, kneeled down and quickly jumped in the air, after which he flew towards the forest, taking note to avoid the fog as best as he could *

"I can deal with the underground part. Just get me there." Nyl caught a kunai and stared at it in disgust as it melted into fog.

Seph nodded. "Alright. But first.." An evil grin crept along Seph's lips. He performed six handseals. "Fire Defense no Jutsu." His entire body began to glow. He looked at his hands. "Good, it works!" If inspected closely enough, there was now a very thin layer of colorless flame attached to his flesh. A kunai flew in from his side, but he didn't move. As it collided with his flesh, it sizzled and evaporated, never making contact with his skin. He performed the same jutsu, but this time on Nyl. "Don't get caught surrounded by the fog and expect this to help very much, though. It's too thin of a layer to hold up against too much contact." And with that, he focused another fireball into the mass of fog in their desired direction, clearing a path to the trees. "We may need to trapeze."

"This is the point of all the chakra-jumping." Nyl jumped up into one of the trees, not wanting to risk flying and wrecking Seph's jutsu. She jumped again, to another branch, frowning. "The fog has been doing something to these trees." The branches around her moved to intercept any kunai or shuriken that were headed her way as she vaulted from tree to tree, headed for the point Seph had described.
