Ricky sipped his coffee and looked down the street. Victor was on the other side buying his morning newspaper. Capital City was humming along as usual, now that things had simmered down. Sure the mayor went missing two weeks before elections leaving J.J. primed for a albeit crooked landslide. And the rash of homicides on the east of town. And gas was $4.60 a gallon. At least it wasn't an alien invasion again. He'd had enough of that.

Victor dodged a bit of traffic crossing the street waving at a car that slowed to let him by. He made his way to Ricky in a hurry. the paper crinkled in his hand as he shouted out "Can you believe this s**t! I mean can you fu-" A nun passed by him on the street with a look of disgust, "G'morning sister beautiful day isn't it?"

He jogged up to Ricky and continued in a lower tone,"Look at it! That b*****d is looking like he'll be our boss. I don't know why he wants it, but he just might get it. His poll numbers are showing that he's making a killing..." Victor straightened out the front page and handed it over distressed by the news. "Can you imagine him running this place? I mean he's nuttier than a s**t house rat! Why can't I just remain mayor until we find Gold?"
"I don't think that's how politics work buddy." Ricky replied as he grimaced at the smug portrait of J.J. staring at him from the newsprint. "It's almost like it was made for crooks. And I think it's too late for you to start campaigning. Looking for the mayor is probly our best bet, but after what happened to the city already I don't think they'll keep him in office."

"I know what you mean, as if anyone saw that s**t coming... Maybe if Cryptic was mayor right." Victor laughed and shook his head. "So much has happened that I'm not even sure in the wake of all of this that Gold is even alive." He rubbed his forehead with his off hand and stared at the ground the weight of not being able to keep track of all of his friends both citizens and vigilantes alike was beginning to cause him stress, "If it wasn't for Gold... I mean he helped to keep me afloat in this city, no one else would have overlooked my shitty work and disappearances it's as if he knew who i was Rick."

(I have a few of these to do, so bear with me)
Tinker peered through the lens of her microscope in her lab within the Hunter's base of operation, Sanctuary. The lab was lit by pale blue-white florescent light that lent to the sterile feel of the large room. Every so often a soft thump would resound from the other side of the room and Tinker would pause in her work in annoyance.

"Must you keep rattling your cage?" She said, knowing that no sound could reach inside the holding cell where Stifle resided. "You're not getting out, no matter how hard you pound your head against the wall."
Tinker peered across the room and looked through the the solid multiple feet thick strengthened and hardened plate glass wall that separated Stifle from the lab. Tinker had tested the upward limits of the force Stifle could produce and the sharpness and hardness she could shape her limbs into; there was no way she could break the glass. Normal glass was as hard as rock once made thick enough, this was far beyond that.

Ratchet walked into the lab as Tinker rested her chin on her palm and sighed, still looking at the reinvigorated defiance of their captive.
"How's it going?" He asked.
"Well, the properties of the cloth that makes up her body is completely unique, and far beyond any level of science I really considered human kind to have an understanding of at this point. There are some synthetic aspects to it; but almost all of it is a near perfect melding of the dead plant fibers and human nervous systems, which seem to have actually animated the previously inanimate plant fibers and controls them like a normal human body would react to a nervous system's commands. It doesn't surprise me that Zack was able to actually mentally connect to her consciousness considering how I've seen him interact with plants.

"Honestly...I'm still working on whether it is even possible to reverse this change physically; but I'm fairly sure it's not going to be and option. I think we need to move to the next viable option, and that is to bring her to a stable mental state."

"Is that even possible?" Ratchet asked, glancing at the holding cell. "She seems pretty much stuck in animal mode ever since we put her in that cage. It reminds me of the few times I've seen Feral go nuts; you just can't reason with them when they're like that."

"Maybe, but I think it's a matter of finding someone or something that can reach past the haze," Tinker said as she jotted some notes down. "Perhaps a friend from the past; but we really need to get Zack back to see if he can't pull his little trick again."

"Well we spared the manpower we could as well as tapped the other Omega survivors to find him; whoever this person is that took him, they're not your average opponent. I heard that Phantom even pried himself away from his work to start tracking them. I'm sure we'll find him."

Tinker rubbed her temple as she sunk back into her seat and said, "I certainly hope so..."

Liz stared into the fire from her position leaned against a dead log, Rei took up the position opposite to her.

"We were so close," Rei said rather distraught, breaking the silence. "I saw her, I could had her on the ground in half a second but she had him cut into pieces. We can't know if it's reversible without her to put him back together."

"Don't" worry, she can't keep this up forever, or for much longer. We just have to wait for the right opportunity," Liz responded as she tossed a small stick into the fire. "But she's getting more careful and cleaning up her tracks; and it's not just us, I think they're someone else she's watching out for. I'm getting this feeling that every time we're close it's because she's being herded away from where she wants to go.

"Either way she's getting too hard for me to follow with what I've learned from my Orion, Feral and my mother. Without a experienced tracker we're going to start losing her trail."

"So what are we going to do?" Rei asked, with concern in her eyes.

"Don't worry, I've got Alex getting an old friend that should be... adequate."

--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------

Phantom sulked around the darkness of the surrounding area soundlessly, invisible to the spectrum visible by the human eye. He watched calmly and tirelessly as he had for the past few months, watched the woman who had abducted Zack Ryder going on 6 months now. At first he had gone completely unnoticed; for at least the first two months the woman had not been more suspicious of his or any other presence that any other criminal with a hostage might be, which was 'very'.

However the first time she had tried to turn Zack over to whomever it was that was paying her he had gotten there first and by the time she arrived they were dead by his hand. Unfortunately they were all intermediary payed goons that were useless as far as information went; but from that point on he was sure she knew that someone besides the Hunters were on her trail, his kills were a just as clean and efficient as theirs might be but a fair deal more brutal and detached. He had watched her look over the scene and she had definitely noticed the subtle signatures in his method that told her he was a new threat entirely.
Ever since then she had become increasingly wary of whoever she might think Phantom was that it was getting to the point that it he set something up to even feel like a trap she went the other way; which was in turn useful for keeping her away from the people she was meant to hand Zack over to, but also made it nearly impossible for him to find a perfect time to liberate Zack from her.

It seemed that they were in sort of a stalemate in that she was to careful to leave a opportunity open for Phantom but also more interested in living than walking into a trap just to get the money for turning Zack in. Phantom was hoping that eventually she would just have to deem the reward not worth the risk and move on, but he didn't know how long that would take if it was going to happen at all.

(I should have one more soonish, but it will be somewhat time delayed)

Stifle's scarves wove in and out in a hypnotic dance like dozens of snakes. She roared once more and slammed the huge knot she created with the force of a wrecking ball at the glass enclosure. It bounced off with as much effectiveness of the last hundred or so times she tried it. She screeched once more. Like a swarm of bees the tips of her scarves darted about and attacked every inch of her prison to no avail.

Traipsing about the Great American Heartland was not her idea of a good time but she had to keep on the move as best she could lest she lose her collar. Losing him meant losing the money. She hated losing the money.

"I doubt he's transcended to another state of being, he has a lot of unfinished business." Victor chuckled a bit, " Well I guess I don't really know what keeps someone tethered to this world other than the information we get from stories and myths, I truly hope that we find them both. I can't think of the last time the fallout has caused this kind of damage to everyone. If we could do it again I think I would most likely gone with like hasta la vista bitches! You know something timeless." Victor who at the time was serious realized that he had said the last part out loud.

Ricky and Victor's conversation was interrupted by someone clearing their throat behind them; turning to see they would find Kyle Alexander Illias, known to them as Alex and Nix.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I was sent to deliver this," he said as he took out a sealed letter, "to you." as he handed it to Victor.

"It's from Liz," he concluded as he continued to stare at Victor; if Vic didn't know better it might seem like he was passively judging him as well as actively judging his response.

the letter reads:
Dear Victor,
I am writing this while still on the trail of the woman who kidnapped my friend and co-Hunter, I believe you only knew him as 'Arbor'. You remember, I hope, that he was abducted during the chaos of the events that lead our group to arrive in Fahrenheit. He is more trusting by nature than most of us and was fooled by her charade of being forced unto the island by one among the villains assembled by the local mobster JJ.

We have been on her trail for months now but she has been growing more wary of late and her trail is beginning to reach a subtlety that I do not believe I will be able to continue tracking soon. I am requesting your help tracking our target until we can find an opportunity to rescue Arbor.

And should you be thinking about ignoring this remember that you owe me and that everyone on still that island when it went into free fall probably owes him their life too.

Yours truly,
Liz

Something that was fairly noticeable was that the line 'yours truly' as well as her name had been erased and written over several times; it seemed Liz had been quite unsure how to appropriately address Victor but had decided for something on the more personal side without straying too far.

"Either my friends find you at the right time and they don't hold back or you get what you want and hand me off and they use me as a weapon of destruction to vilify mutants. Either way it ends bad for you."

It seemed he was more bitter than usual because of his situation and this question had been eating at him. He wasn't able to keep it in any longer.

After that he fell silent on moved in the direction Melody continued to prod him in.

She turned to the man and sneered. "You are causin me a whole hell alot of trouble so far. If thea didn't raise the price on yur head I'da just popped it off your shoulders ages ago."

"You know I've said this before, you don't have to do this," Zack muttered. She had originally had him gagged for months but after it became clear that he knew as well as she did that screaming or calling for help out where she kept them wouldn't do any good; she had become more lax about it. "Just walk away and I can promise you no one will follow."
Melody rolled her eyes at Zack and forced him to his feet. "I'm sure. Yur hot merchandise boyo. Aye can't put you down without risk ta me. Aye'd prefer to hand ya over and git me money and git as far away from ya as I can before ya blokes show up." She gave him a light shove. "Come on. We're movin again."

"Well I hope this is what you really want," Zack said as he shuffled in front of her, "because the only way this ends is messy. Do you even know what these people are going to do with me? Do you care what they'll use me to do?

"Either my friends find you at the right time and they don't hold back or you get what you want and hand me off and they use me as a weapon of destruction to vilify mutants. Either way it ends bad for you."

It seemed he was more bitter than usual because of his situation and this question had been eating at him. He wasn't able to keep it in any longer.
Melody kicked him with a dusty boot. "Aye don't give a flying flip what happens to you or what they want you for. Ay'm doing a job clean an simple." She seemed more perturbed about the situation than what he said. "Yur friends won't touch me as long as aye have you and aye ain't one of you freaks so they can hate on you as much as they want. Ain't mah business."

Zack winced slightly at the kick but wouldn't be silenced.
"You may know you aren't a mutant, but how many people do you expect to care to make that distinction once hysteria and mob mentality sets in? Once the fire is lit we're all 'freaks'."

He paused before he muttered, "I've seen peaceful people driven to murder by blind fear and pure malice." Then, almost inaudibly, "And I've seen it in myself more than once. I don't want to be a weapon."

After that he fell silent on moved in the direction Melody continued to prod him in.
It's not that Melody didn't have a heart, she had just heard too many captives trying to pull the morality card on her. She simply shut them out. You can't have a conscience in the business she was in. They came to a fork in the road.
"That way." she said as she pointed down the left path.

Victor eyed Nix for a moment before he opened the letter. His eyes skimmed through it and back up to him, noticing his expression he read it for real. Her voice rang through his head with every letter of each word. The memory was still one he went over again and again, for some reason to him the short time he spent with her was one he couldn't shake.

"Well look at that Rick some people still need me unlike this damn place." he elbowed Ricky a little bit harder than he probably should have. And mumbled something vulgar about JJ, Capital, and a zebra. He stared at the letter for a bit more taking in all the information he could. One of his many skills as a detective was a mild grasp on graphology, and it's incites in to the psychological portion of the writer. Why does she write like a robot, those words have little feeling so analytical It's like- hello there He smiled when he noticed the work behind the finishing of the letter.

"I think we might be able to help with this, what do you say Rick, wanna go on a road trip?" Victor smiled with glee. How hard can it be to find two people really... although I'm not sure I wanna help with that attitude, maybe she just doesn't get enough hugs... not often when we get do a 'manhunt' he thought to himself Son of a b***h I said we again, god I need help, wonder if this is just something I have to stop doing or if it's deep seated in my core from my childhood...we should look into that when I get back.... damnit. the smile faded from his face but he still seemed intent on going.
