"Okay." Most of it didn't seem to register. His eyes darted off to one side, and then he drew a glass to his lips and took a sip. He sighed through his nose, nostrils flaring. He put the glass back down with a little camera wiggle and an audible clink.
"I'm actually not doing so great right now." He gave a humorless laugh and grinned, shaking his head at himself. "I feel like I'm going insane."

"Yeah, I kind of see that," Maia said, concern obvious. "You were doing fine a few days ago, though. What's happened?"

Another humorless laugh.
"I didn't really know what to say or how to say it, so I got this, and it didn't help." He was a little looser, maybe. He'd actually made the call, that was a step up. Now he wasn't sure how to continue.
"Are you over me yet?"

Maia stared. "What?" she asked. "No. Toby, I'll never be over you." She paused, making a face. "Do you want me to be over you?"

"That's probably be easiest," Toby murmured, and then the phone went up while he ran his hands through his hair. ********, uh." There came a long silence. Toby's face reappeared. The angle was now from below, near his knees. He was looking off left and up somewhere.
"I'm not over you either," he said, and then made direct eye contact through the screen. "I think about you all the time. I can't help but miss you, and the feelings I've developed for you aren't going away."

Feelings? Maia blinked. Had Dari been right all along? A surge of hope rushed through her. She gave him a small smile. "It's the same with me. Everything reminds me of you. Stars, cooking, swimming..." She looked to him, meeting his eyes.
"So, what do you want to do about It?"

Toby looked away again and then looked back at Maia. He might have thrown his arms up were they not Facetiming.
"I don't know." A pause. "What do you want to do?" She had been the one to decide to go home after all. If what she was saying was true it may not have been the most joyous occasion, but he had rejected her outright. He wouldn't blame her for giving up on him altogether.

"I want to come home," Maia blurted. "Please. I want to see you, and Dari, and it's miserable here!" She had to set the phone down for a moment. She picked it back up. "When Dari told me to come, I thought it'd be only a few days. I've asked every day since if I could." She paused and added, "I'll find the next flight there. Maybe I can get someone's cancelled vacation ticket."

Relief flooded through him. Home. She wanted to come back to him. this was home. Another tear fell and he sighed. Then Dari. What about him? Told her to come? Whatever. He had agreed she needed to be gone at first and t had just hurt every day.
"No, no. I'm the a*****e, let me buy it. I bet I could get you out of there tomorrow if you wanted." Maia had a budget, after all. "We could send someone to pick all of your stuff up. A truck like last time."

Maia practically beamed at him. "Really?" she asked. "I'll be ready in the morning!" She was going home! She would be able to hug Toby. "Yeah. Let's do that. I want to be home as soon as possible."

"Okay." Toby offered a grin. "Okay. Let's get that figured out, hold on."
He put down the phone and got up to retrieve his computer. The fish tank could be seen glowing in the corner of the screen. He returned with the laptop, set it up and started it. "Is the same airport good? I don't know if I can get a direct flight this late in the game, is that okay?"
The screen loaded and he clicked up the internet and went straight for a booking site.

"Yeah, same airport," Maia was smiling at him. She hadn't felt so happy since before she'd come here. Toby had feelings for her. He wanted her home. "Is there a nonstop one?" She asked. She wanted to get there as soon as possible, and with the least amount of takeoffs. She still hated that.
"I can't wait to see you."

The view was now up at Toby from down at the table, back-lit by the glow of his laptop.
"Let's see." A click, a few moments of silence. "Yeah, there's a few. When do you want to get here? What time of day?"

"Morning?" Maia suggested. The sooner, the better. She wanted to see Toby smiling in person. She wanted her arms around him. "What will we do when I get there?" She asked.

Toby looked through the available times and laughed. Hell, he wasn't sure.
"I have no idea," he said, "Something nice." Maybe they'd cook, or go to the lake. He'd have to tell Dari.
"There's one that would get you here just before noon, that's it. The only earlier one leaves in fifteen minutes." Not that he wouldn't love to magically have her on that flight.
