It looks pretty good for just starting out. I would suggest you learn how to shade with pixels (it's much easier than shading traditional art) and add detail. To me it looks like you used a base because the mic has a different look to it than the rest of the image.
I would post some of my work using bases/sprites if they weren't so old.

Most of them got put in my dA storage for a reason! rofl These two are the most recent, I think. I use them as avatars on dA, Google Wave, and MSN. You can easily guess which one I like more razz This one's not so recent, but it was my first attempt at an animated .gif base. It was also a gift for a Team Fortress 2-obsessed dA pal of mine. Also, no shading on this one. I wasn't so good at shading/detailing back then anyways. http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs46/f/2009/224/5/a/MedicSpin_GIF_by_iWafflePerson.gif

Antique Whisper To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair.Styk: I like Pen's idea! A duel store with both your skill would draw a lot of attention. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. I pitched the Idea to Alison, and she's thinking about it. She's just really shy about it, that's all. I don't want to pressure her into it, though. It wouldn't be very nice of me. I fancy the idea, though! I've found that Alison and I work perfectly together when it comes to, like, combining our creative talents and everything. So, if I do open up my sign shop (hopefully soon!) I will be sure to keep it so that she can set up shop in my shop anytime.

Well thats cool and I can sympathize. My stuff gets critiqued all the time but some how the extra pressure that you want to make it good for a friend or family member makes it all that more stressful.

Yeah, trust me, Alison and I know for sure how that feels. Especially Alison. See, she is in this drawing class, and her work is CONSTANTLY 'on trial', but her stuff is SO GOOD!- I especially love her photography! A mutual friend of ours, I lovingly call her Cupcake, and I were sitting around looking through pictures Alison had taken. . . and they were REALLY beautiful!

I don't really mind criticism too much, I kind of like to flaunt my works.. just so long as it's not in person. I get really freaked out and shy when someone comes up to me while I'm drawing and asks to look at my sketchbook. Then I just kind of sit there awkwardly blushing as they flip through [because I can't say no]. sweatdrop
8D; er... right.. homework... *leaves*

Lol I used to get really freaked out about my writing notebook in seventh grade- because teachers used to be a bit more harsh than they were supposed to, but in the end I learned to suck it up and just take it. They're only trying to help you, afterall. Criticism that is harsh or not, it helps either way. Now I'm glad my teachers at the time were so rough with me, because it serves me really well!
YES! Lol go do your homework, Koji!

ninja Ohhh heyyy! *o* I should come in here more often! @waffle: Those are super cute! I want one! @skotti: Props for doing pixel art, that stuff is hard imo. @koji: I know how that feels! I feel completely different when someone personally asks to see my sketchbook. >.< It's just very akward.
As for being critisized, I'm pretty much used to it. My teacher is has a pretty critical eye (being a working artist himself), and he's too blunt. So if you draw odd, he'll tell you. I've had a taste of his critiques and it's intimidating as hell, but VERY helpful. Also, when he picks someones work to put up in "the wall" it's a complete honor to everyone in the class and an automatic perfect score for that piece. Also, a thumbs up and a smile/nod of approval is good sign. It's intense, but I enjoy the challenge that class brings.
As for the shop, I'm thinking about it redface

Well, Alison, you're a ******** genius THAT'S why! :3[/being a royal kiss a**]
I think you and I should open a shop together! I think it would be fun for us! You're all about the random and the "Oh look! A butterfly!" and I'm all about the "D; That's not a butterfly! That's a Wasp! D< Focus, woman!"- Yes, it would be that hilarious! Not only would it be fun for us, though, but it would give you a chance to do art for a group! Like, start small then go big!
