Behind Nyl, deep withing the fog, something was happening. Through the electricity, a signal had been sent back to the nucleus of the jutsu--the 'brain', if you will. It began to process this new information and slowly, deep within the dense moisture, a weapon was being formed: A shuriken.
And it fired in Nyl's direction.
Seph, back in the kitchen, scoffed. "Cooking? Simple? I guess it's not my forte."

Nyl's ears picked up on a noise. She shifted slightly left; a shuriken bounced off the stone fountain in the previous location of her right eye. She stood, taking a step away from the fountain.
You wanna play, huh? Fine by me. I can cheat, too.

Slowly the fog began to pour into the clearing through one small passage. Once in the clearing, it began to mass itself. If you looked closely enough, you could see spots in the fog darken and form projectiles. A number of kunai and shuriken formed, and a volley of very sharp items flew in Nyl's direction.

Plants and vines burst from the ground to intercept some of the projectiles; chunks of ice, pulled from the fountain, blocked others. Nyl caught one shuriken a few inches shy of her stomach, and kicked at another, sending it flying away. The shuriken in her hand dissolved into nothing as she stared at it.
No...not nothing. Into fog. ...It's still cheating.

The mass of fog slowly began to part, spliting into two snake-like trails connected in the middle that slowly made their way around, in effort to flank Nyl. Yet another volley of fog-weapons barraged her from the front as projectiles began forming in the two flanks.
A peculiar scent filled Seph's nostrils. It wasn't the food, it was something more forboding. Cautiously, Seph made his way out of the kitchen. "I'll be right back, Fen."
He put his ear to the main door, listening.

Nyl's eyes widened as she watched it circle around behind her, too. Never seen smart mist before.
Nyl dodged and ducked around as many of the kunai and shuriken as she could, reaching to catch some - at her touch, they disappeared - and kicking away others. One or two tore at her sleeves, and another handful were caught by a thorny vine that rose from the ground behind her.
I have more 'friends' than you do.

Seph opened the main doors, and what he saw astonished him. He slowly stepped down the steps, watching in awe. The mist appeared to have changed targets. Seph walked about ten feet into the yard, keeping an eye on Nyl. The fog was beginning to flank her.
He narrowed his eyes and held his hands up. It felt good to be able to use Jutsu again. He threw out three handseals, took a deep breath, and blew. A large ball of fire obliterated one of the snake-like wisps of fog, complete with a horrible sizzling sound as the arsenal of weaponry within erupted.
"How'd you piss it off, Nyl?"

Well, at the risk of sounding redundant...
"It cheats!" Nyl yelled to Seph, stepping away from his fireball. She turned to the other side and, with her own set of handseals, pushed the fog several feet back with a strong wind.
I think his method works better.

Seph walked the rest of the way, watching as the tail began to reform and grow. The look on Seph's face was one of failure. He sighed, head hung low. He grit his teeth and popped his fingers. He was ready to try again, when both flanks merged on the other side of them. Slowly they began to rise, like a sea of fog closing in on the one dry spot, coming in from all sides.
The frown on Seph's face flipped to a grin.

Nice to know he has a plan.
Nyl backed up a bit as the fog advanced, inevitably nearly running backwards into Seph.
"Enlighten me."

"Well, it would appear our only option is to run. But this is far beyond the capabilities of this Jutsu." A kunai rocketed towards him. He pulled his own from his back and flicked it away. "Whoever's controlling it is either very far away and is currently spying on us, or is hiding his or her chakra very very well."

"A physical person is here now? Coming now?" Not for the first time, Nyl reached for her fans, recalling that she no longer carried them. The staff could no longer be called; she carried none of the usual ninja weapons. She thought about it, frowning. An ice weapon would hardly do anything against fog, and she hadn't learned past the first lesson of fire. She was inefficient and sloppy with the two kinds of plant weapons she knew, and they wouldn't help against fog anyway.
"I don't think we have much of anywhere to run to. Where I come from, they call this 'surrounded.'"

"I don't know if they're coming or not, but this does mean they can see us right now. Whether they're using a jutsu for that too, or sitting in the forest, I don't know." He looked around, trying to figure out which way was which. "Well, we know it won't attack the dojo. We've got to find it. How's your sense of direction..?"

Nyl looked up, the only place where the fog wasn't thickening around them. Up to stars. She smirked.
"Perfectly fine." She felt a kunai slice past her face, but she didn't even flinch. She turned around almost halfway, staring into a wall of mist her eyes couldn't hope to see through. "I'm facing it."

He nodded and put his hands together. The three same handseals, and Seph took another deep breath. Again, a large ball of fire ripped through the fog. The flame reached so far as to catch the first porchstep on fire. But that was moot--there was an opening and it was closing fast.
