Lucas sat at the end of the gryffindor table alone, waiting for Fionna. Today was her 16th birthday ((If you're a 5th year you turn 16, like how ron became of age 6th book, so I'm pretty sure this is right)). 16 was a pretty big deal, in the muggle world they made a huge deal over sweet sixteens. He'd gotten her a pretty expensive gift so she really should like it.
It was a necklace ((kudos to lil for thinking of this idea)) since all girls like jewlery, really. It was extremely expensive because of how unique it was and the charms put on it. It had a thick gold chain and then three gems at the bottom. Two small diamonds on either side of a kinda ugly black rock-looking stone. The key was to put it on. The second the black stone was worn, the stone changed to fit how you felt. If you were happy, it was a yellow topaz. If you were sad, it was a deep blue sapphire. In love, it was a pink crystal. If angry, a red ruby. If jealous, a green emerald. If you were at peace and just thinking, it was a diamond. If you were proud, it would be an amethyst, purple like royalty. If you were hesitant, unsure, it would be an opal. If you were extremely overjoyed, it would be amber, and last, but not least, his favorite, if someone was musical or singing very pensive, it would turn into a smooth white pearl. When she first saw it, he knew she'd hate the ugly black stone. Then he'd put it on her neck and know just how she felt about it then.

It was her birthday and she couldn't wait to find Lucas. He had not been in the common room, so she figured he had already headed down to the great hall. Fionna honestly didn't care if Lucas had gotten her anything or if it was anything good. All she cared about was being with him on her special day. Fionna could not wait until next year when she turned seventeen and could use magic out of school though. One more year.
As soon as she entered the great hall, Fionna scanned the Gryffindor table and instantly found Lucas. She practically skipped down the aisle and sat down next to him giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Hello Lucas." She said after she sat down and had kissed him. A grin was on her face and a sparkle in her eye. Her mood had improved, if that was even possible, upon seeing Lucas.

Lucas kissed her cheek in return.
"Happy birthday, Fi." He said, beaming. Then he handed her the nicely wrapped box. It had been wrapped in Gryffindor paper, red and gold. His heart was pounding a bit, even with the gorgeous gemstones, he wasn't sure if she'd like it. After all, he'd done known her since the train ride here. Still two months felt a lot longer than it was. Especially these two months that had been filled with so much drama and gossip. When she'd opened it, he ignored her expression at the ugly black stone and the two small diamonds next to it.
"Here, I'll put it on you." He said, smiling all the brighter before she could say much of anything. "Just trust me." And with that, he took the necklace and was careful not to let teh golden chain touch her neck just until the clasp was done so as soon as he let go it would change to a gorgeous gem stone. He fumbled with the back of the necklace for a moment and then dropped it. He put his hands lightly on her shoulder and kissed her cheek. He couldn't see the gem it had changed to since he had been standing behind her to put the necklace on.
"Well, what do you think?"

Of course he would have though, she had never doubted him. "Thank you." She said ecstatic. Fionna's eyes widened at the perfectly wrapped gift. She wondered what could be in there. She loved the wrapping. She could have laughed at that thought. Fionna loved anything gryffindor almost.
When she opened the box, her eyes went to the beautiful gold chains and the diamonds next to it. It was gorgeous, but what was the hideous black gem doing there? Lucas wasn't stupid enough to not notice how ugly it was did he? She eyebrows rose and before she could say anything he was putting it on.
Fionna reluctantly said, "Alright. I trust you." She was curious what he was up to. She didn't know if this was a joke or something. Her curiosities were explained when the necklace hit her skin. She watched as the big ugly black rock turned into a bright pick crystal. Her eyes widened in shock. It was absolutely gorgeous. Fionna looked at Lucas and said, "It's perfect. What is the rock though?" She couldn't help but add the question. The rock was not ordinary. No rock she knew of would change form and color on its own. It was probably magically enchanted and really expensive. She kissed him before he could answer but then waited to hear his response.

Lucas smiled when she said it was perfect, he'd really hoped she'd like it and her sweet kiss said she did.
"It's a mood changing gem, loads of charms and stuff." He explained. "Here." He looked in the bottom of the box and there was a small slip of paper that listed the mood that came with the gem stone. Beside 'In Love' was 'Pink Crystal.'
Yes, it had cost a lot. He'd saved for a while know, using all his money he'd accumulated. The good news was that his parents had a fair amount of money and gave it to him if it shut him up and kept him out of their hair. He thought it was a fair trade, he really didn't like them anyways. He sat back down next to Fionna and put his arm around her shoulder. She was going to have a great birthday, he had to make sure of that. She'd turned his whole perspective around for his school life, one day for her was the very least he could do. Then he saw something that made his breath catch in his chest. Rhiannon was walking into the great hall. Rhiannon. It was actually Rhiannon...but with piercings...he didn't say anything. He'd tell Fionna she was back tomorrow or something, for now, she might as well just be blissfully unaware, it was her birthday.

Rhiannon walked into the great hall. Some stared at her tiny, skinny, pale form and icy dark eye sockets, others did absolutely nothing. She smirked and sat alone at the Slytherin table. She had a choclate muffin, it warmed her up a bit. Then she took a bite of the choclate bar she always carried around, she had a huge stock in her common room. Not only did it help her gain weight but she was still drowning in that cold...she shuddered. She'd already put her wand back in her pocket, her pearls were gently on her neck and the handcuffs were in her common room.
But what was new, was that she hadn't removed her piercings. The headmistress probably didn't think anything Rhiannon had done now was unusual, Rhi was just an unusual person. ((She has the same piercings the person does in this photo But since I can't find loads of piercing pictures, she'll eventually take them out))
Still, she only planned on wearing them until she got her swagger back. Until then, she needed to look intimidating so people wouldn't mess with her. Right now, without them, she looked seriously starved, weak, and evil. She didn't mind the latter, but the two former weren't her taste.
She saw Lucas staring, disgusted. She just smirked and turned back to her chocolate. When she saw Rose in person and private, she had a little gift for her as well...

Her love for Lucas overpowered her happiness though which explained the color pink of her gem. Looking at the paper she saw all the colors and moods and thinking that this would be her favorite necklace. She kissed Lucas' cheek again and said, "I love it." She paused and looked at him and added, "And you." A larger, if even possible, grin appeared on her face. She was just so ecstatic.
Fionna was oblivious to the entrance of Rhi. She was busy reveling in her day so far. Fionna leaned against Lucas in an affectionate way and began to get some food onto her plate. Fionna was actually staving. Beginning to eat, she said to Lucas, "This is the best gift I have gotten so far, and I doubt anything will beat it." So far, she had gotten a few books from her family and a special quill. It was tradition to send gifts throughout the day in her family.

Lucas looked away from Rhi's nasty smirk and decided to sfocus on Fionna's beautiful smile instead.
"I love you too." He said, putting some food on his own plate. He took a blueberry muffin and ate hungrily. After he swallowed and didn't have so much food in his mouth he said,
"I'm glad you like it, and I certainly hope nothing beats it." He smiled. "I'll personally make sure this is the best birthday you've had. What could go wrong?"
Well, a lot of things, after all, Rhi was back and sure to be angry at the person who got her sent away in the first place. Still, Rhi had known Fionna would tell the Headmistress, Rhi was just stupid enough to use the curse anyways. But Lucas was determined to keep that jerk away from Fionna today, now that he was Fionna's boyfriend it was like his duty to at least make this one day fantastic.
He'd already bought some butter beer and a cake that he was saving for them in the common room tonight, but he'd ordered that just yesterday so it wouldn't go stale. If he was feeling extremely generous...maybe he'd let Caiden have a piece.

He made her so happy. She couldn't think of anything better than a gift from him. Even if it wasn't an expensive beautiful piece of jewelry. "Nothing will." She said matter factually. Fionna thought for a moment. There were a few things that could go wrong, but as long as she was with Lucas life would go on. "Nothing could make this day unforgettable."
FIonna didn't want to think about what Could happen though. She just wanted to enjoy the here and now. She picked up a muffin of her own and slowly munched on it in the peace of the great hall. It was buzzing with activity and Fionna got the occasional 'Happy Birthday' from a friend or fellow gryffindor, but it was still peaceful and familiar. She wouldn't want to be anywhere else. She took Lucas' hand as she ate holding it in affection.

He had been very busy with school work and other 'things' that he was keeping a secret to himself, and these things were really starting to weigh him down. But right now, he was only worried about filling his physical needs, and that meant eating until he was stuffed and relaxing for a half hour. The boy came into the great hall and decided to grab a seat and started to pile things onto his plate, not exactly being very open at the moment. When he finished piling things on his plate, he just began to start eating. Not until someone next to him stood up and walked away did he look up. He looked forward first to see that no one was directly in front of him, but there were a few people to the left of him, and those people to the left and in front of him were two people he had been purposely avoiding all day.
He sat up straight, and turned his head away from Lucas and Sparrow, trying not to stare. He knew very well what today was, and he knew very well that he had planned to spend the day with Sparrow back when they were together. He had a present all ready for her, and it was up in his trunk; he had never taken it out. He shook his head and then looked at Lucas yet again, noticing a few grey hairs here and there, and almost shuddered. There was something about those hairs that just bothered Caiden. He looked away and kept eating, not sure what to do now. He noticed that Sparrow seemed very happy, and wondered if her mood would change when she saw him. He couldn't help it, but he kept looking at Lucas, wondering if his own mood would change when he saw Caiden. That wouldn't surprise him.
Caiden couldn't help but keep staring at Lucas; something about him just didn't seem right, and he wanted to know what it was, which was why his fascination was so high. He kept eating, but couldn't keep his eyes off of him. It was actually a little creepy on Caiden's part.★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆

Lucas couldn't shake the feeling that someone was staring at him and knew it was probably Rhiannon. Still, it was odd. He decided he'd tell Fionna now about the cake and butter beer just so she had something to look forward to for the end of tonight.
"And tonight," He said, giving her hand a small squeeze, "I bought you a nice vanilla and chocolate cake and some butter beer. There's a lot, so we can share it with friends. Of course, you can just eat it all yourself if you want, it's your birthday after all and I'd love you a bit pudgy or not." He smiled and yet still, his ears burned. He wondered if it really was Rhiannon, since he'd gotten used to her glares by now. It was just...a sixth sense type of thing.
Then, distracted and only using one hand to eat, he nicked his finger on a knife in front of him. Luckily, Fionna hadn't seen, someone else was saying happy birthday to her at the moment. He turned his head a bit and sucked on the wound. It was just his dog-ish habit to lick a wound, so he did when he was sure no one could possibly notice. He rubbed his hand on a napkin and since it was just such a tiny little cut it didn't bleed any more. He turned back to Fionna as if nothing happened. Still...he couldn't shake that feeling that one person was just glaring, staring mercilessly the entire time.

Something told Caiden that what he did was strange. Usually if he would have pricked his finger, he would have sucked on the wound and put pressure on it. No... When Lucas did it, something was strange. He licked the wound a few times and then wiped it off. He liked it more than once too, not just a single time. It was so weird! Caiden's face went strange, and he finished eating quickly. He had a few things to go get done now after witnessing what he had witnessed.
Scooping down his food, he stuffed things into his mouth, almost making a scene out of it. Then, when he finished, he clumsily got up and walked quickly towards the exit. He knew people would probably look at him, but he had to get out of there before someone stopped him and said something. He wanted to get to the library big time, and he had a lot of things to look up. When Caiden left, he looked over to where Lucas and Sparrow were sitting one last time. Caiden would hate himself if he let Lucas do anything to Sparrow, and after the things he was seeing, he knew that something was strange about the boy, not just that he took Sparrow from him. He wouldn't let anything happen to Sparrow, and the only way he could do that to figure out what he was up against. Turning to leave, the boy headed to the library. ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆ ★ ☆

She grinned at the thought of tonight. She would spend all night with him. "That sounds great!" She told him. Really just being with him was great. She laughed and said, "I think I could spare some to share." She joked. She would never eat so much. Fionna was blessed with a strong metabolism, but she still couldn't eat that much bad food. Plus, she had to keep healthy for quidditch.
Fionna turned away when somebody tapped her on the shoulder and wished her happy birthday. She thanked them and turned back to Lucas. She smiled at him again. She just couldn't keep a smile off her face today! They had both finished their breakfasts now so she said, "Think we could head out of here?" She asked him. Sure she liked the bustle of the great hall, but sometimes it was just too crowded and noisy. She wanted some alone time with Lucas on her birthday also.
Fionna then saw Caiden rush out of the Great Hall. She narrowed her eyes for a moment wondering what he was up to, but it didn't last long till her attention was returned to Lucas and her happy mood.

"Sure thing." Lucas said, ready to leave behind that burning feeling of someone staring. Yet as he stood up, he didn't really feel it anymore. He didn't want to keep Fionna all to himself, as much as he loved her, but still spending time alone with her wouldn't be bad either...and by that he meant it would be wonderful.
"Where would you like me to escort thee, birthday queen?" He said in a perfect impression of a butler. He held out his arm regally for her to hold onto and couldn't suppress his smile. Today was going to be one of the best days of her life, and his. He noticed that the gemstone still hadn't changed from the pink crystal and couldn't keep the elated feeling from welling up inside him. He'd always had plenty of proof she loved him, but now the proof was dangling on her neck as well for everyone else to see. At least, if they knew of the necklace. Whatever, point is, it was visual proof now, obvious and right in front of his eyes. Who could ever ask for more?

Saturday night, Lucas walked into the great hall for a delicious dinner. He'd been aimlessly wandering around during the day, just being a bit lazy. Yet he couldn't shake the increasing sense of foreboding following him. He had that odd sixth sense that animals had, when he just knew something wasn't right. He couldn't put his finger on it, and thought a nice walk around the grounds might clear his head. It didn't though. He waved hello to Al but sat alone. Fionna wasn't here yet, probably off doing prefect duties or who knows what. He wasn't worried though, he trusted her.
Hmmm...Rhiannon wasn't in the great hall, so why couldn't he shake this weird feeling? He piled some dinner onto his plate and ate heartily. There was delicious soups and stews, since it was getting so cold so early. It was already snowing! ((It's legit snowing where I live. we already have 4 inches of snow.)) So as he piled food on, he did his best to wipe the feeling from his mind and he managed to shove that instinct into a small corner. Just ignore it, maybe it'll go away.
