Grinding is usually a bad thing, since it means the game isn't well-paced. If a game is well-paced, you'd level enough to be able to handle every stage of the game as you reached it. 3nodding

There is a way to get around it by hunting monsters 10-15 levels ahead of you. The only disadvantage to that is when the player is not well-prepared.
Some quests ask that one should kill a lot of monsters though. :]
