To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair.Well...I'm not sure. So if an elf peaks at 24, they remain the appearance of that age in till they either decline or advance? Did I get that right? So all our characters can look in their 20's and 30's, but really be in their 50's or even 90's. Is that what your saying? To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power.

Since we're NOT strictly going by the DnD standard, this gives us some flexibility as to writing how long our elves can live. Gaian dark elves aren't the same as DnD drow anyways.
I'm guessing that Pen's theory could work for Gaian dark elves. I could have sworn it was either hinted at in the manga or discovered in the GCD that the Don was about 800 years old or something.
Because all of my dark elves (or just all of my characters for that matter) come from foreign places, I had to devise a system of my own to apply to them.

Somehow I don't like the word "peak". Makes it sound like we just go downhill after that. More of a wall. Also like add the pitfall of this, you age faster if you become weaker than you were. So keep your self rather young you need to keep yourself up.
But yea if you hit the wall at 24 a good chance you won't look like 30 until a hundred or so years later. Or longer depending on the elf's lifestyle. Still age day by day just really minuscule that it takes a whole lot of time to see any difference. Its not like we embody the fountain of youth and never grow old.
Also a good chance for those who aren't in a more physical occupation like the black ops I would think around 25 would be the time elves normally slow down.
All of this is like Waffle said a theory on how Gaian elves age. Gaia didn't exactly explain any of this just more less threw in the option of being a dark elf and then went back to their vampires.
I don't think any of us were using any DnD standard at any time. Just here to play.

To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair.Well I just want to know since I realized that the Crescent family was kinda not matching my time line. So I got confused as to how the aging things go. I used D&D because the were the ones who created Dark Elves and Gaia never gave any information on the age factor. I like to be a precise as possible with characters. The more detail I know the better I can write. The easier it is to understand how my characters feel. Plus I'm writing a story on the Crescent Family. So I want all the age thing sorted out, so I could write and have it make sense. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power.

I think Pen's theory applies properly. Depending on the lifestyle and amount of power a dark elf possesses, they will age differently.
Either way, they will mature normally and level off when they hit the peak of their body's capabilities. I know Pen doesn't really like the term peak, but that's what it is... sadly, it is all downhill from the peak.. that's why people get old and die, lol. Elves just sort of level off for a while before the hill starts going down. And even when it does start going down, it goes very slowly.
I rarely make my characters the 'standard' age for their mythological race.. so to anyone else in their race they'd probably be considered infants.. sweatdrop

Again, we're still talking just Gaian dark elves. While planning out the massive amounts of backstory before the first events of the RP, I had to consider aging. my brain, about aging systems, Dark elves in my created world start their lives aging the same way as humans until they hit a specific age, generally between 15-35, although there are some that stop as young as 10 while others as old as 40. From that point on, their aging process slows down to anywhere from 4/20th to 1/25th of that of a human. If they had the short end of the aging stick, they would die near or soon after hitting 600. The elves with longevity in their blood can live to be almost 2000 years old (although there's only been a handful of elves who ever hit 2 millennium, let alone 1,900) And that's just elves. Vampires typically live to be 400-500 years old, imps live to be 200-400, and humans have a normal life expectancy unless they had been enhanced by magic or machinery. Orcs and centuars live shorter lives in Serole than those in Gaia. Screw standards, I have writing skills and obsessions over details. wink

To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair.Waffle:> That is very cool. The clarity in aging is very nice. Though I'm wondering is that aging difference cause of their living conditions or a simply because their a different kind of dark elf?
Pirates:> What is going in that Rp. I've read through it and found it interesting, but like I'm sure what's going on with it. Or some of the other rp's around. I'm just wondering...since I don't want to get all excited and find then its dead or something. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power.

@ Aly: my brain I already stress in the main RP that Waffle's home country is literally flooded in magic, or in this specific case, moderate amounts of magic radiation spread unevenly over the floating island. The radiation is not unlike its nuclear counterpart in how it behaves and how it affects people, although about 4/5th of the population develop some kind of immunity. Some elven communities with shorter life spans can pinpoint to this as the biggest factor of their plight. tl;dr, it's due to both minor genetic variances and the environment they live in. That's not even factoring the gaps between rich and poor nor the kinds of jobs that may or may not lead to short lives. wink Why do I feel like the next Terry Pratchett? At least the Discworld series was awesome.Oh, and we kinda sorta shifted out Air Pirate RP to another guild. Double edit: Oh s**t. I never realized that I'm posting wiki-grade material. That thing still takes up space on the 'net.

To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair.Waffle:> Cool. An almost genetic/radiation combo that both sets up genetic defaults and possible overexposure cases at the same time. Very nice. I'm starting to wonder if I should just use what Pen stated or be a strange combo of the two. Though I would need a reason...hmm, I need more time to think on the age issue for my story. Anyway, thanks for sharing and clarifying the whole aging process.
Wicked Wiki!:> Cool I didn't know we had a Wiki page! That is awesome. =3= My character isn't on the list...well I'm new so I'll let that go. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power.

@ Aly: Well, I tailored my system specifically for my massive addition to the story. Yours could be completely different for all I know.
Side note, Aly, but I gave everyone in the RP full permission to edit the wiki as they please. You can edit it even while anonymous.

To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair.Skotti:> Hmm...Well let me think about it. I think I will join, but I need sometime before then. So I can gather my wit on what kinda character I can create.
Waffle:> Alright, I'll do that. Just as soon as my computer and then Wiki page come to an agreement. It seems my computer is sending one place, while Wiki wants to wonder it pages. Either that or I pressed the wrong button. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power.
