"Now use your Acid again!" Erika said, knowing this battle would be over very soon. Victreebel's ear-splitting shrieks pierced the air around it as it opened its fanged mouth and spat out another spray of the hide-melting, acidic substance towards the immobile Ponyta.

The red headed trainer walked up the ashy trail, leading away from Lavaridge. Her Poochyena, Poochy, walked along side her, happily waving his stub of a tail. June grinned and grabbed her faithful Pokemon.

June had not started her Pokemon journey very long ago, in fact, only about an hour had passed since her mother gave her Poochy. June blinked and recalled her mother, telling the red headed girl that she had a surprise. June was surprised, alright.

As June was recounting these memories, Poochy barked. This bark jolted June out of her stream of thought. She was about to scold her Pokemon when she saw why he had barked. A man in a black coat was walking towards her, waering a black top hat. The hat covered his face almost completely. June hugged Poochy tighter.

The man was near her by now. june could see the tip of a long, pointed nose. He was carying a Pokeball. June's pale skin got paler.

"Hello," the man said, "might I intrest you in a battle?"

"N-no, sir. I do not wish to be a Pokemon master and battle. I wish to become a coordinator."

"Then a battle might be good practice for you," the man grumbled. Before June could react, he threw the Pokeball. A Seviper appeared, hissing its greatness. June gulped. Poochy struggled away from her arms and got into a fighting position.

"Let this battle begin," the man murmured.

"Seviper, Poison Tail!"

The Seviper jumped into the air, swinging its tail. Soon the tip of the tail glew purple, and it was swung at Poochy.

"Poochy, d-dodge!"

Poochy wasfast and jumped away, missing the swing by an inch.

"Seviper, use Poison Sting!"

Seviper raised its head. It then swung itself and opened its jaws. A volley of purple spikes were shot out, heading mercilessly at poor Poochy.

"Poochy, dod-"

But it was too late. The spikes struck the Poochyena full charge. It had been a direct hit. Poochy lay, defeated.

"Flash! Get out of the way!" Kasiya screeched loudly, realizing she'd been staring fearfully at the Crawdaunt. It had raised a pincer and brought it crashing down, Flash jumping out of the way just in time. The Jolteon stared with wide eyes at the crater the Rogue Pokemon's appendage had made, and gulped. "Keep away from it," Kasiya told her Pokemon sharply. "Thunderbolt attack!"

"Jolteoon!" Flash cried, sparks flaring from his body as he sent a volley of powerful electricity towards the ugly crab. Kasiya cheered as it scored a direct hit, the Crawdaunt grimacing and growling angrily. It really didn't like that one bit.

June ran up to her fallen Pokemon, tears in her eyes. She held out Poochy's Pokeball, allowing him to take a rest. Then she looked up at the man.

The Seviper was back in its Pokeball, safe and sound. THe man stared down at her. "Train harder, then find me."

"What does that-" June stopped in midsentence. The man was gone.

She picked herself up, still shaking. She had to go to a Pokemon Center.

June soon arrived at a small Pokemon Center on the pathway. Nurse Joy took Pooch's Pokeball and put it on a machine. The machine was bright for a moment, and then faded.

"Poochy is all healed now." Nurse Joy said, giving the Pokeball back to June.

"Thank You."

"I suggest trying to catch more Pokemon, or training with other trainers to get stronger. You should go to Route 111 to train. It is a great place."

"Once again, thank you."

June walked out of the Center, cheerful that Poochy was healed. walking into the ashy grass, she spotted red spirals on a tan creature. It was a wild Spinda.

"We have to try and catch it." June whispered to Poochy's Pokeball.

However, before June could try to even battle it, the Spinda ran away. June sighed. So much for catching a new Pokemon. She looked toward the South and saw Route 111. Not long now, she thought happily.

Mike had just about enough time to take a deep breath before he noticed a rather scruffy looking boy walk past him, an odd Pokemon following behind. His Pokedex identified it as a Hitmonlee, the kicking Pokemon. "Cool!" He said louder than he wanted too. The boy whirled around, a smile on his face.

"So, you like my Pokemon?" He asked with a slight coy grin.

"Oh yeah, it looks so different from anything I've ever seen." Mike walked closer, inspecting it. He noted the muscular legs and arms, wrapped in what looked like bandages. The Pokemon's cold stare made the boy nearly giggle with excitement. "It's a fighting type right?"

"Yup, got it from the Dojo when I started my training. He's a real butt kicker." His Pokemon's eyes lit up, it's mouthless body conveying as well as it could that it was smiling.

Mike's eyes wandered, a hopeful expression on his face. "Say..." He began, biting his lower lip. "What would you feel about a battle? Like right here and now?" He stopped his hand from reaching for a Pokeball, waiting for the response.

"Excellent! I've been waiting for a battle since I beat the Dojo Gym leader!" The boy reached into his pocket, holding out a Great Ball and dashing off. Skidding to a halt a dozen or so meters away, he released a Pokemon, an Electrode. "He just evolved yesterday and I've been dying to use his new form!"

"Alright, best of luck to you..." Mike dragged the last word, forgetting to ask his name.

"Nicholas." He said simply, seemed he was ready to battle.

Unclipping a Pokeball, Mike tossed it onto the field. The following light show revealed a well rested Quilava. "Let's make up for lost time and win this battle Felsic!"

The fire Pokemon reared up, his pores erupting fire. He was ready to win this one.

"Ready set?"

Keegan continued to watch the match from his position on the sidelines, nodding as the tables seemingly had turned. Even though he wanted to see Dante win, he couldn't help but applaud Erika's efforts to slow Apollo to a standstill. "It just goes to show that any situation can be turned around in an instant. In times like this, even grass Pokemon can overcome their weaknesses to fire types." Keegan said more to himself than anybody else. He then became aware of someone looking at him, and he glanced to his right, his cheeks turning red as a pair of bright green eyes belonging to a pretty girl with green hair stared up at him. "Err, uh, tee hee?" he added, realizing that he'd forgotten to change his voice when he spoke.

The girl giggled, and gave him a devilish smile. "I know you're not really a girl," she said playfully. "And I'm betting that your friend over there isn't either."

"Heh, shows how much you now," Keegan growled, narrowing his eyes at her.

"Yeah, much more than you do," she said in a singsong voice, standing up. She then yawned. "I'm bored. Wanna go outside and have a battle?"

"But, my friend," Keegan started, but the girl just laughed, and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, ignoring the surprised yelp that came from Helios.

"He'll be fine. Let's go!" she smiled cutely, pulling him to his feet and dragging him away from the gym match.

"Crawdaunt, Bubblebeam." Nameless Trainer's voice was flat, and almost too quiet to hear. The Crawdaunt eyed Flash mercilessly, raising both pincers and opening them. Streams of bubbles shot out of each claw, both striking the Jolteon.

"C'mon, Flash, you can do it!" Kasiya cheered. Flash glanced back at her, panting heavily. His exhaustion was starting to show, and he was starting to doubt that he could take down the Crawdaunt, even though he had a type advantage. "Thundershock!"

"Protect!" came the almost near-instant rebuttal, and as Flash launched the electric attack, a green barrier formed around the Crawdaunt, the electricity snaking around in and dissipating harmlessly into the ground. The Jolteon had a noticeable quiver in his step, there was no way he could continue much longer.

It looks like I've seriously got my work cut out for me when it comes to raising Pookie here, Nina thought. Her thoughts were interrupted as her Pokenav beeped; she had received a text message. She checked it as Pookie waddled to Anna and started to sniff her. Anna stared at the Rhyhorn. "No," she said. "Go away. Stop. Bad Pookie!"

"Hmm," Nina said. "A summer festival. The date isn't that far away... We could show up for that." Putting her Nav away, Nina looked to her Pokemon. Anna and Pookie were making strange noises, rabbling at one another.

Have they both gone mentally retarded? Nina thought. "Hey! Lovebirds! Are you ready to go yet or not?" Anna looked to Nina as Pookie kept on rabbling. "Go? Go where?"

"Well, you said that you wanted to learn a new move or something. I was thinking that we could go back to Celadon and do a little bit of shopping around there. That okay?" Anna grinned. "Sure, that's fine with me." Nina recalled Pookie back into his Pokeball, and released Krystal from hers. Nina got on her Pokemon's back, and Anna followed suit.

"Miss Krystal," Nina said, "please take us back to Celadon City." The Dragon Pokemon cooed in response and she lifted into the air, heading northward.

The boy smiled. "I'm from Johto, you've got a real good taste in Pokemon." Looking at his Electrode, the boy clapped his hands once. "Alright, a fire type needs fire moves, let's start with a Rain Dance!" On command, the Pokeball looking creature spin around at great speeds, clouds forming above the battle. Soon a great rainstorm began to drench the two Pokemon and their trainers.

Mike let out a grumble, he had just gotten his hair the way he liked it. Now if I remember, Electrodes are one of the fastest Pokemon, but they're not too powerful in terms of defense. Mulling over the details, he snapped his fingers. "I'll just have to hit him hard and not let up. Felsic, start this off with a Leer 'attack'. "

Focusing his eyes, the Quilava shot an unsettling look at the ball like Pokemon. It gave of a faint green glow, which dispersed, the Pokemon's Defense stat lowering.

Nicholas narrowed his eyes, thinking into his opponents strategy. "Spark attack Thundercracker!" In an almost blinding motion, the electric Pokemon shot forth like a cannonball, running over Felsic. It smashed into him with a static charged body. As the move connected, Felsic launched a Flamethower, missing as the enemy Pokemon came around for another pass.

Mike thought back to his battle in Petalburg. The girl before Norman used a similar tactic with her Togetic. "Felsic, use Crush Claw, wait until it's close!"

Lowering his body, the Quilava watched with unbroken focus as the speedy Pokemon shot towards him. Thrusting his hand just in time, he connected with a critical hit,
the force of the strike was like hitting a bump at top speed, the Electrode launching into the air and landing with a loud crack. "Yes! That's the way!" Mike cheered, pumping his fist into the air.

"Okay Flash, this is it! Just one more Thunderbolt and the battle is ours!"

"Jolt..." Flash wheezed, taking a step forward. He mustered his energy, teeth clenched as his body became enveloped in electricity. However, it soon faded as the Jolteon collapsed onto his stomach, unable to continue.

"Oh, Flash!" Kasiya was by his side in seconds, gently stroking the top of his head. "You were excellent," she said proudly, turning her head sharply as the Crawdaunt shuffled on his feet. She shot the opposing trainer a deadly look that clearly said 'attack my Pokemon while its down again, and I'll personally rip you apart.' She recalled her Jolteon into his Pokeball; proud of the valiant effort he'd put forth, and clipped it onto her belt. She strode back to her position, knowing she still had two healthy Pokemon she could use in this battle. "It's a Water-type, so Hiro's out for this one. Ariel should continue to rest after that fight from earlier... I know!" The girl unclipped the Ultra Ball from her belt, and held it up for the Nameless trainer to see. "I've got a Hoenn Pokemon or two myself," she said, flashing a cheeky grin. "Let's play, Casimir!"

The Absol appeared before them, accompanied by the gentle tinkling of the silver Soothe Bell around his neck. Casimir stretched, his claws raking the ground as he did so, and he yawned, catching sight of the Crawdaunt out of the corner of his eye. His crimson eyes narrowed into slits, and he bared his fangs, letting the crab Pokemon know that he meant business.
