Pro Tip: Area 2-6. Form a tower with your units, wait for the enemy to come to you. Use the Cheat Shop to increase their levels as needed to get you a good benefit. This should suffice to get you through the main plot.

Yes, everyone gets EXP in towers. Full EXP, at that, which is why it's so useful to grind there early on (though it is replaced later).
